The Resourceful Adolescent Program (RAP), an 11-session depression prevention program, was provided to Year 9 students at a South West Sydney High School. Students were assessed using the Children's Depression Inventory and the Adolescent Coping Scale. These assessments were conducted prior to the start of the program, the end of the program, at 6 months, at 1 year and again at 2 years. Further, at the 2-year time point, students were asked to complete a questionnaire — Use and Usefulness of RAP Skills Evaluation Form (2 years on) — to help ascertain the “practical effectiveness” of RAP. The results provide some support for the efficacy of RAP as a depression prevention program with high-school students of approximately 15 years of age. A significant main effect was found for time on the CDI, with follow-up comparisons showing that pretreatment scores were significantly higher than scores at any of the other subsequent time points. There were no main effects or interactions for ethnicity or sex. For the measures of coping, no change was evidenced. This was a surprising result as one of the main objectives of RAP was to increase positive coping skills. The Use and Usefulness of Rap Skills Evaluation Form (2 years on) showed that most of the students found the program to be of some use; however, less than half stated they had utilised some of the skills taught in the program. More importantly, of the students who stated they had experienced difficult situations over the last 12 months, 23 (66%) said that they had used skills taught in RAP to help them; however, there was limited support regarding the helpfulness of these skills during the difficult situations. In spite of a number of methodological issues limiting the interpretations of the findings, the current long-term evaluation provides an important contribution to the small body of literature available on the effectiveness of RAP.

In the modern conditions of market economy development, the world of professions depends on technological and cultural globalization, hyper competition, widespread use of the latest state-of-the-art technologies and considerable growth of the realm of intellectual labour. The gap between educated and non-educated people is also growing fast, the popularity of professions essential for society is diminishing, and some have already disappeared. The determining factors for successful personal professional realization become increasingly complex. This trend is more visible and contradictory in the local social and economic spaces. The real situation of the regional labour market does not guarantee a permanent job, and severely limits the opportunity for jobs that match individual qualifications. These conditions threaten to narrow the range of options regarding the choice of a university and an academic concentration, and orientates people towards survival strategies (supporting realization in the home town and domination of social models of behavior). In this sense there is an actual need of a complex examination of all the factors and conditions influencing the life choices of university applicants, of the dynamics of their planning strategies and self-determination (as an orientation towards a university or profession), which is considered essential for the development of efficient university policies with a view to attracting students and modernizing the educational process. For a long period of time career orientation problems have been seen as consequences of career consulting and social and psychological diagnostics, underestimating the subjectivity factor in prospective students. All the abovementioned aspects urge us to examine the life strategies of high school students related to their choice of university education as part of their career development within the context of significant social and economic changes. The research discussed herein focuses on the motivation attitudes of students to continue their study at South- West University. A survey has been conducted to reveal the content of the three basic reactions that come with the attitudes – 1. Cognitive reactions or beliefs, reflecting their knowledge of the university and the personal perceptions of it; 2. Affective reactions connected to the evaluation of the university, its social and economic environment, the emotional attitude of students. 3. Conative reactions revealing students’ intentions to continue their education, to make decisions, or highlighting certain tendencies in their development of a personal attitude towards the university. The results of the survey show that the motivation attitudes depend on the public prestige of the university, the parents’ opinion (especially those who have graduated from the same university and have a successful career), the range of academic majors on offer, and the social and economic standards.

A modification of the Paired-Stimuli Parent Program (Florance, 1977) was adapted for the treatment of articulatory errors of visually handicapped children. Blind high school students served as clinical aides. A discussion of treatment methodology, and the results of administrating the program to 32 children, including a two-year follow-up evaluation to measure permanence of behavior change, is presented.

Summary: This article describes a triarchic analysis of an aptitude-treatment interaction in a college-level introductory-psychology course given to selected high-school students. Of the 326 total participants, 199 were selected to be high in analytical, creative, or practical abilities, or in all three abilities, or in none of the three abilities. The selected students were placed in a course that either well matched or did not match their pattern of analytical, creative, and practical abilities. All students were assessed for memory, analytical, creative, and practical achievement. The data showed an aptitude-treatment interaction between students' varied ability patterns and the match or mismatch of these abilities to the different instructional groups.

This study examined how social opportunity structure influences identity exploration and commitment of Albanian high school students. A total of 258 students completed a questionnaire that gauged their identity exploration and commitment in three domains: education, occupation, and family. ANOVA results indicated that, overall, students scored highest in exploration in the domain of education and in commitment in the domain of family. Students' exploration and commitment were linked to gender. Albanian female students scored higher than male students in exploration and commitment regarding education and family. Perceived work opportunities in Albania or abroad also significantly moderated participants' exploration in the domain of education and were associated with commitment in education and occupation. As one of the first studies to explore Albanian youth's identity development in relation to social opportunity structure, findings are discussed in light of furthering the field of Albanian adolescent and youth development.

Abstract. This study investigated the effects of politicians’ nonparticipatory and participatory Facebook posts on young people’s political efficacy – a key determinant of political participation. We employed an experimental design, using a sample of N = 125 high school students (15–20 years). Participants either saw a Facebook profile with no posts (control condition), nonparticipatory posts, or participatory posts. While nonparticipatory posts did not affect participants’ political efficacy, participatory posts exerted distinct effects. For those high in trait evaluations of the politician presented in the stimulus material or low in political cynicism, we found significant positive effects on external and collective efficacy. By contrast, for those low in trait evaluations or high in cynicism, we found significant negative effects on external and collective efficacy. We did not find any effects on internal efficacy. The importance of content-specific factors and individual predispositions in assessing the influence of social media use on participation is discussed.
