Charnwood Forest, since 1891, the date of the last paper by Canon E. Hill and myself, has been investigated by the Geological Survey. Though part of their map and the accompanying memoir have not yet been published, the general results of their work have been announced by Professor W. W. Watts, by whom most of it was executed. As we stated at the time, we were far from being satisfied with some important points in our own conclusions; so that since my return to Cambridge I have studied my specimens and slices from the north-western region, which had presented to us the more serious difficulties. In 1891 I had been led to regard the characteristic rocks of Peldar Tor and High Sharpley as lava-flows, but considered the dominant rocks of Bardon Hill to be mainly pyroclastic. Professor Watts, however, maintained the intrusive character of the first and second, while taking the same view as myself about the third. The lava-flow hypothesis had appeared to me the more probable, because I doubted whether a mass so large as the Peldar-Bardon porphyroid, if intrusive, could have maintained throughout a texture so uniformly fine-grained, and I had found in the Bardon quarries fragments of it embedded in rock which I then supposed to be a somewhat altered tuff, closely related to the High Sharpley lava.

The authors studied the possibility of cultivating fireweed in a grass mixture with nettle dioecious in the conditions of the North-Western region of the Russian Federation. It has been stated that both plants begin to grow immediately after snowmelt. The blooming phase of nettle begins simultaneously with that of fireweed. As the plants grow and develop in a grass mixture, the suppression of fireweed is noted. In the third year of life, nettle stalks were higher than those of fireweed. During the period of research, the productivity of the grass mixture was lower than that of pure fireweed plantings by 1.3 t/ha. In the single-species option, the amount of protein and the amount of metabolizable energy were 348 kg/ha and 19.5 GJ/ha respectively, which is 42 kg/ha and 2.5 GJ/ha higher than in the grass mixture. Nettle dioecious forms dense bushes in the third year of growing. Fireweed turns out to be in unfavorable conditions: its growing energy decreases, it comes into the blooming phase earlier and its suppression from the coenosis by nettle becomes evident.

Purpose: Heteroresistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is defined as a group of drug-susceptible and resistant bacteria in a single clinical specimen from tuberculosis (TB) patients. Heteroresistance of MTB is considered a preliminary stage to full resistance. The present study aimed to determine the heteroresistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Tabuk province, in the north of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Method: GenoType MTBDRplus assay was used to determine mutations associated with isoniazid and rifampicin resistance. Results: A total number of 46 confirmed M. tuberculosis positive sputum samples were scanned for heteroresistance. The present study revealed 3 (6.5%) heteroresistant mutations to either rpoB gene alone, 2 (4.4%) to rpoB and 1 (2.2%) to inhA genes. Conclusion: The detection of heteroresistant mutations could guide the initiation of an appropriate regimen of treatment.
