Internet of Things (IoT) have become a hot topic since the official introduction of IPv6. Research on Wireless Sensors Networks (WSN) move towards IoT as the communication platform and support provided by the TCP/UDP/IP stack provides a wide variety of services. The communication protocols need to be designed in such a way that even simple microcontrollers with small amount of memory and processing speed can be interconnected in a network. For this different protocols have been proposed. The most extended ones, MQTT and CoAP, represent two different paradigms. In this paper, we present a CoAP extension to support soft real-time communications among sensors, actuators and users. The extension facilitates the instrumentation of applications oriented to improve the quality of life of vulnerable communities contributing to the social good.

The design of software system for unmanned surface vehicle using PCI8602 is introduced. The software system includes the drive program of PCI8602, wireless transmission program and master controller program. Visual Basic is used to write programs, which doesn’t write complicated communication protocols between each layers and integrating subsystem is easy. At last, the experiment results demonstrate that the control system for USV has a way to real-time acquisition data, sending data and accomplishing remote control.

This chapter presents the state-of-the-art of real-time communication in the challenging topic of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). In real-time communication, the duration between the event which initiates the sending of a message, and the instant this message is received must be smaller than a known delay. Because topologies are extremely dynamic and not known priori, this type of constraint is very hard to meet in WSNs. In this chapter, the different communication protocols proposed in the literatures, together with their respective advantages and drawbacks, are discussed. We focus on MAC and routing because they are key layers in real-time communication. As most existing protocols are not suitable under realistic constraints where sensor nodes and wireless links are unreliable, we give, at the end of this chapter, some insights about future trends in designing real-time protocols. We hope to give the reader an overview of recent research works in this complex topic which we consider to be essential in critical applications.

Communication protocols are used for data communication between different parties in computer networks. Research on improvement and generalization of the usage areas of these protocols keeps going. One of these protocols, Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), draws the attention with the advantages of providing an open communication infrastructure for real-time transmission and usage of XML format along with packet definition, which is also available in other protocols. In this study, a new model was developed making the use of XMPP advantages. The developed model can interoperate with the software using other protocols and is intended for efficient, location-independent communication of people and business applications with each other. To verify the constructed model, a new enterprise application including an instant messaging service was developed that is able to interoperate with business applications. A new area was added to the usage areas of XMPP that contributes to the generalization of the protocol. Keywords: XMPP, business application, instant messaging, presence management

New real-time applications frequently involve timing constraints related to accurate services from communication protocols. Concretely, real-time communication protocols utilize timers to implement these constraints between system event occurrences. In this context, the study of congestion control for Internet reliable multicast is at present an active research field related to real-time protocols. In this paper, the authors present an innovative real-time transport protocol named Scalable Reliable Multicast Stair Hybrid (SRMSH) as new hybrid multiple layer mechanism for multicast congestion control providing detection and recovery loss. This work is focused on formal specification of SRMSH approach using Communicating Real-Time State Machines as a formal method. Besides, SRMSH validation is presented within a formal proof framework in order to check the functional safety and liveness properties. As a result, authors outline a dynamical system framework in order to model behavior of their presented solution.

By employing the ASCII type communication protocols between MCU and KingView provided by WellinTech Inc, basing on the analysis of COM port setting and command format of read-write operation between MCU and the KingView, this paper design a read-write operation on floating point data program with C programming language and realize the real-time communication between MCU and KingView successfully, which improved the accuracy and scope of data transmitted between them. Data definition and some key subprograms like serial ports initialization, read floating point data from MCU, write floating point data to MCU are provided in the paper. It has high portability and application value.
