Abstract Background: Dementia special care unit (D-SCU) is a main care mode for the elderly with dementia, and has increased steadily internationally. However, little is known about the D-SCUs of China. The present study aimed to analyze and summarize the types and standards of D-SCUs in China, and evaluate the care efficiency of the D-SCU care model. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between June 2018 and July 2019 in 6 cities of China. Quantitative data about the basic information and the care satisfaction were collected from 25 care facilities in the 6 cities. Qualitative data about the care status of the elderly with dementia, the standards, the management and the operation of the D-SCUs were collected among the 25 care facilities and the 3 cities that had issued standards for setting D-SCUs. Grounded theory method was used to analyze the qualitative data, and data envelopment analysis (DEA) method was applied to evaluate the care efficiency of the D-SCU care model. Results: The technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency of care facilities with D-SCUs were higher than those of care facilities without D-SCUs (P=0.016, P=0.022, and P=0.021, respectively). The types of D-SCUs could be divided into independent, semi- independent, semi-dependent and dependent according to the architecture, physical space, and management mode. The standards for the area, environment, beds, service items of the D-SCUs were various among the 3 cities that had issued standards for setting D-SCUs.Conclusions: The care model of D-SCUs is effective and professional, and can be further promoted in China. The exploration and standard research on the D-SCUs should be strengthened in future.

AbstractBackground and purpose: Several hospitals in Indonesia have developed a model of nursing care known as MAKP (Professional Nursing Care Model) to improve the quality of nursing services. Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar has applied this model. The aim of this study is to explore the perception of nurses towards this approach and assess its association with job satisfaction.  Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 92 nurses working at the inpatient ward at Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar. Data were collected from July-August 2017 by interview using questionnaires. Data collected included  the characteristics of respondents (age, gender, education, and employment status), nurses’ perception towards the application of MAKP, and nurses’ job satisfaction. Results: Nursing staff demonstrated perception score of ≥15 on leadership elements (68.5%), communication (72.2%), coordination (84.8%), delegation (80.4%), and supervision (66, 3%). Nursing staff with a score of ≥15 in coordination perception (AOR=4.48; 95%CI: 1.14-17.54), delegation (AOR=4.00; 95%CI: 1.21-13.23) and supervision (AOR=3.35; 95%CI: 1.25-8.88) expressed higher job satisfaction. While aspects of leadership (AOR=0.98; 95%CI: 0.29-3.79) and communication (AOR=0.76; 95%CI: 0.19-3.05) were not significantly associated with job satisfaction. Conclusions: The majority of nurses have a positive perception towards the MAKP approach. The better perception on coordination, supervision and delegation are found to increase job satisfaction. The results imply that coordination, supervision and delegation should be considered in order to increase job satisfaction in other hospitals.

The main purpose of the present study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Attitudes Scale Towards Violence (Escala de Actitudes hacia la Violencia, EAV) in adolescents. The EAV is a questionnaire devoted to assess attitudes towards violence. Additionally, the relationship between EAV and violence manifestations and depressive symptoms was analyzed. The final sample comprised a total of 1248 students in a cross-sectional survey. The EAV, the Modified Conflict Tactics Scale (M-CTS), and the Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale (RADS) were used. The analysis of the internal structure of the EAV yielded a two-factor structure as the most adequate. The EAV scores showed measurement invariance across gender and age. The McDonald’s Omega was 0.862 and 0.872 for the two hypothesized factors. Furthermore, self-reported attitudes towards violence were associated with violence manifestations both as a victim and as a perpetrator and depressive symptoms. These results support that the EAV is a brief and easy tool to assess self-reported violence attitudes in intimate partner relationships in adolescents from the general population. The assessment of these attitudes, and its associations with violence and depressive manifestations, may help us to enhance the possibility of an early identification of adolescents potentially at risk for suffering violence as a victim or as a perpetrator.

Abstract. Background: According to the strain theory of suicide, strains, resulting from conflicting and competing pressures in an individual's life, are hypothesized to precede suicide. But social support is an important factor that can mitigate strains and lessen their input in suicidal behavior. Aims: This study was designed to assess the moderating role of social support in the relation between strain and suicidality. Methods: A sample of 1,051 employees were recruited in Beijing, the capital of China, through an online survey. Moderation analysis was performed using SPSS PROCESS Macro. Social support was measured with the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and strains were assessed with the Psychological Strains Scale. Results: Psychological strains are a good predictor of suicidality, and social support, a basic need for each human being, moderates and decreases the effects of psychological strains on suicidality. Limitations: The cross-sectional survey limited the extent to which conclusions about causal relationships can be drawn. Furthermore, the results may not be generalized to the whole of China because of its diversity. Conclusion: Social support has a tendency to mitigate the effects of psychological strains on suicidality.

Abstract. Applicant job pursuit intentions impact the composition of an organization’s applicant pool, thereby influencing selection outcomes. An example is the self-selection of women and men into gender-congruent jobs. Such self-selection contributes to a lack of gender diversity across a variety of occupations. We use person-job fit and the role congruity perspective of social role theory to explore job pursuit intentions. We present research from two cross-sectional survey studies (520 students, 174 working adults) indicating that at different points in their careers women and men choose to pursue gender-congruent jobs. For students, the choice was mediated by value placed on the job’s associated gender-congruent outcomes, but for working adults it was not. We offer suggestions for practitioners and researchers.

Introduction: The implementation of Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE) remains a challenge. An exploratory study highlighted two tendencies among practitioners of TPE, which could hamper this implementation: an oscillation between identities (as caregivers versus as educators) and an inclination towards subjective psychological health objectives. Objectives: To verify whether these tendencies can be observed among an informed audience in TPE. Next, to explore the variables associated with one or other of these tendencies. Method: A quantitative cross-sectional survey by a self-administered questionnaire was carried out among 90 French-speaking healthcare professionals. Statistical analyses (chi-square, logistic regression) were then conducted. Results: Sixty percent of respondents displayed identity oscillation, which was found to be linked to task oscillation, patient curability, scepticism towards medicine and practising in France. Fifty-six percent pursued subjective psychological health objectives, which was found to be associated with health behaviour objectives and a locus of power in the healthcare relationship distinct from those seen in the pre-existing health models (biomedical, global). This tendency seems to constitute an alternative model of TPE. Discussion & conclusion: Identity oscillation and subjective psychological health objectives can be both observed. This study stresses the need to deliberate on the form(s) of TPE that is/are desired.
