The present article seeks to analyze the way in which the blasphemous figure of God in Dolce agonia by Nancy Huston allows the author to describe the sacred element in human life, seen as deprived of transcendental character. This is possible thanks to the three aspects of the text dependent on the type of God’s figure, which are: the contrast between passages marked by the cynical God’s voice and passages focused on man’s life filled with suffering; the tone and the appropriation of time var-iations and, finally, the double character of God who, at the same time, is indifferent to man’s lot while touched by his capacity of love.

Background: The analysis of the problems derived from globalization has become one of the most densely studied topics at the beginning of this millennium, as they can have a crucial impact on present and future sustainable development. This paper analyzes the differential patterns of globalization in four worldwide areas predefined by The World Bank (namely, High-, Upper-Middle-, Lower-Middle-, and Low-Income countries). The main objective of this work is to estimate the effect of globalization on some economic development indicators (specifically per capita income and public expenditure on health) in 217 countries over the period 2000–2016. Methods: Our empirical approach is based on the implementation of a novel econometric methodology: The so-called Toda–Yamamoto procedure, which has been used to analyze the possible causal relationships between the involved variables. We employ World Development Indicators, provided by The World Bank, and the KOF Globalization Index, elaborated by the KOF Swiss Economic Institute. Results: The results show that there is a causal relationship in the sense of Granger between globalization and public expenditure on health, except in High-Income countries. This can be interpreted both negatively and positively, confirming the double character of globalization, as indicated by Stiglitz.

________ Multiple studies of innovative business relations give an account about „the double character” of innovative processes. On the one hand, the role of proximity has been appreciated, for this reason, the innovative companies, institutes are concentrated in space, especially in big cities. On the other hand extensive networks have been established among innovative companies, institutes operating in the different countries, most of which are successful in spite of the long distance. All these observations suggest there is a need to clarify business skills on the role of proximity and distance, tailored to the changing conditions of globalization. In their study the authors review the role of the main features of spatial proximity in formation and maintenace of corporate cooperation based on innovative activities. After a brief description of traditional concepts certain types of „network proximity” otherwise relational proximity are analyzed. They cover main features of regional clusters and the local innovative environment which utilize advantages coming both from spatial and relational proximities. This leading international experience are applicable at home as well when elaborating academic and corporate cooperation resp. local development programs for the economy and corporations.

Arabic language is one of the richest languages in its grammatical rules. Linguistic research, in its broad sense, has no limit. The grammatical dispute is nothing but a kind of different views, and the task of the grammatical researcher when examining a sentence is to classify it and explain how it is constructed. The research aims to identify the reality of the adjectival sentence, and its position in the Arabic sentence. The research problem here is to identify the adjectival phrase either as nominative or verbal, or is it something else, as it has a double character represented in the difference in its pronunciation from its meaning. In pronunciation, it is a noun, but in the meaning it is a verb-like. The paper also examines the views of both the Basris and the Kufis in the issue, and their arguments. The paper provides what is permissible and what is not in the i’rab, the similarity between adjective and verb, and the difference of grammarians in the adjectival predicate. The paper executes the descriptive analytical method. The research findings are: 1- There are three types of sentences in Arabic language: the nominative sentence, verbal sentence, and the adjectival sentence. 2- The study manages to reconcile between the different views in the adjectival sentence in terms of both verbal and nominative sentences. 3- The study also justifies this division. 4- These findings help to make grammar easier for the learners to avoid the interpretation that weighed heavily on grammar.

Abstract Geosynclinal theory began with the characteristics found in the geosynclinal chains of the Alpine cycle in Europe, then, after much research, was modified to include Prealpine chains, the Hercynian (Variscan), Caledonian, and Precambrian. The fundamental organization is found to be the eugeosynclinal-miogeosynclinal couple. These couples are repeated in two types of symmetry, centrifugal and centripetal, in the manner of centrifugally-symmetrical bicouples. The classic chain's double character, with the median zone either an intermediate massif of the Zwischenberg type, an intermediate trough, or eugeanticlinal and eugeosynclinal folds, influences the orogenic, magmatic and metamorphic gradients toward the exterior. The eugeosynclinal-miogeosynclinal couple itself is defined by the paleogeography, the polarity, and the tectonic structures. Geosynclinal, tardigeosynclinal, and postgeosynclinal periods are recognized, but seem to be of lesser importance with greater age of the geosynclinal development.

AbstractWe estimate double sums $$\begin{eqnarray}S_{{\it\chi}}(a,{\mathcal{I}},{\mathcal{G}})=\mathop{\sum }\limits_{x\in {\mathcal{I}}}\mathop{\sum }\limits_{{\it\lambda}\in {\mathcal{G}}}{\it\chi}(x+a{\it\lambda}),\quad 1\leq a<p-1,\end{eqnarray}$$ with a multiplicative character ${\it\chi}$ modulo $p$ where ${\mathcal{I}}=\{1,\dots ,H\}$ and ${\mathcal{G}}$ is a subgroup of order $T$ of the multiplicative group of the finite field of $p$ elements. A nontrivial upper bound on $S_{{\it\chi}}(a,{\mathcal{I}},{\mathcal{G}})$ can be derived from the Burgess bound if $H\geq p^{1/4+{\it\varepsilon}}$ and from some standard elementary arguments if $T\geq p^{1/2+{\it\varepsilon}}$, where ${\it\varepsilon}>0$ is arbitrary. We obtain a nontrivial estimate in a wider range of parameters $H$ and $T$. We also estimate double sums $$\begin{eqnarray}T_{{\it\chi}}(a,{\mathcal{G}})=\mathop{\sum }\limits_{{\it\lambda},{\it\mu}\in {\mathcal{G}}}{\it\chi}(a+{\it\lambda}+{\it\mu}),\quad 1\leq a<p-1,\end{eqnarray}$$ and give an application to primitive roots modulo $p$ with three nonzero binary digits.

In Cuba and the United States, Protestant institutions exist that are both reflective and nonreflective about their culture’s influence on belief and practice. The case of Cuba sheds light on how Christian churches and voluntary associations operate in an authoritarian regime. Despite the tension and enmity that have typified Cuba’s geopolitical relationship with the United States since the colonial days, cross-cultural Christian philanthropic partnerships exist. The “doble carácter” (double character) of Cuban Protestant churches has grown out of both collaboration with, and resistance to U.S.-style evangelicalism (Arce Valentín 2016). Adaptations of liberation theology, adopted among Cuban Christians, provide an influential counterweight to the mighty Western theological and philanthropic tradition (González 2012). The nature of this engagement influences Cuban civil society, the survival of the Cuban regime, and provides an extreme case for cross-cultural philanthropy worldwide. This socio-historical account utilizes the data collected from personal interviews with Cuban Protestant leaders, primary sources found in the library at the San Cristobal Presbyterian Seminary and Cuban theological journals, and a qualitative analysis of literature on Cuba, Protestants, missions, philanthropy, nongovernment organizations (NGOs) and civil society.

In Asia, contemporary Japanese architecture owns bright national characters, and meanwhile is geared to international standards. As an embodiment of nationalism, national characters have a direct influence on the creative thinking of architecture. Japanese people owns the double character of enlargement and reduction, as well as opening and closure, and the insularity character of delicacy and love of nature, thus contemporary Japanese architects own the nature of combining the “big” and the “small” as well as opening and closure, and the architecture form, aspiring after the creative thinking of harmonious coexistence with the nature, is delicate and subtle.
