<p class="TeksAbstrak">This paper reviews the theories used by new scholars in Translation Studies (TS) in Indonesia, to determine whether TS or translation theory there has followed the development of TS throughout the world. The study investigated the terms and authors/scholars of TS found in the final papers of students at Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Negeri Jakarta between 2006 and 2016. Using a corpus tool, WordSmith Tools 6.0, keyword and cluster analyses were applied to search for terms and authors. Results show no significant progress in attainment of knowledge on TS. Indonesian students’ knowledge of translation theory seems to come primarily from the 1960s–1990s era.</p>

The Difference

Knowledge is created and learned by academicians for the purpose of further theory development. Academician’role in disseminating knowldege is very important. To reach a convergent understanding both theory and practice, it’s a need of flexibility between methodology and sources of data so that it stimulates actionable insight.One of the problems between theory and practice differencesis customers focus.For practicians customer focus raised three foundamentals questions: can the knowledge phylosophy reduce cost?. Can the knowledge phylosophy increse sales?, and can the knowledge phylosophy increase the profit?. This paper discuss the development of marketing knowledge based on the marketing practice to bridge the gap between academicians and practicians. Issues being discussed in this paper are the meaning of marketing knowledge from practician perspective, the theory of marketing in practician’s world, actionable research as the bridge of knowledge development, and the difference perspective between academician and parctician.

Despite the work of Dan Sperber and Deirdre Wilson (1989), the concept of relevance has not enjoyed the popularity it deserved among translators as it appears to be more productive in information science and sociology than in translation studies. The theory of relevance provides underpinnings of a unified account of translation proposed by Ernst-August Gutt. However, if the concept of relevance should take into account all parameters of legal translation, the approach should be pragmatic and not cognitive: The aim of a relevant translation is to produce a legal text in the target language which appears relevant to the lawyer in the target legal system, namely a text that can be used in the same way as the original source text. The legal translator works as a facilitator from one legal system into another and relevance is the core of this pragmatic approach which requires translation techniques like adaptation rather than through-translation or calque (in the terminology of Delisle/Lee-Jahnk/Cormier 1999). This contribution tries to show that relevance theory, which was developed in the field of sociology by Alfred Schütz, could also be applied to translation theory with the aim of producing a correct translation in a concrete situation. Some examples extracted from one year of the practice of an expert law translator (German-French) at the Court of Appeal in the Alsace region illustrate our claim and underpin an approach of legal translation and its heuristics that is both pragmatic and reflexive.

Recently, prospective direction of the combustion theory development is the preparation of fuel compositions and study of the composite fuels ignition characteristics, for example, in the form of emulsions and suspensions. Such fuels and their combustion processes are characterized by higher environmental, energy, economic, and operational properties. Of great interest is the use of gel fuels prepared by thickening emulsions and suspensions to the state of elastically deformable materials for the aerospace industry and thermal power engineering. Gel fuels have advantages over widespread liquid fuels in environmental and fire safety aspects of storage processes, transportation, and combustion.

There is a diminishing return to repeated confirmations, since each new instance adds less to the case for a causal theory. In such a situation, experimental failure, unexpected findings, and negative results can be what make for the bigger theoretical breakthroughs. Such results should contribute to theory development and not, as Popper urged, their outright falsification. The failure can show where a theory is to be improved or refined: it is an opportunity for the growth or new knowledge in response to a discrepancy experience. Such a norm is reflected in the non-monotonic reasoning that is useful in thinking about causation.
