Heracleum platytaenium Boiss. (Öğrekotu) is a plant depend on the Apiaceae family, with intense aromatic content and known for its use in traditional medicine. This plant, which is one of the endemic plants of Turkey, is perennial and monocarpic. In this study, the essential oil of the Heracleum platytaenium Boiss., which grows naturally in the northern parts of Bolu province, was obtained by the hidro-distillation method in the Clevenger device and the essential oil components were investigated in the GC-MS device. As a result of the study, the essential oil ratio was determined as 1.4%. Octyl hexanoate (8.76%), 5-Octen-1-ol (7.04%), n-Octyl Caprylate (5.42%), and Beta-Eudesmol (5.01%) were determined as the main components.  In this study, a total of 36 components (81.69%) were detected in the GC-MS device.

The focus of the present study was on the influence of season on yield, chemical composition, antioxidant and antifungal activities of Omani basil ( Ocimum basilicum) oil. The present study involved only one of the eight Omani basil varieties. The hydro-distilled essential oil yields were computed to be 0.1%, 0.3% and 0.1% in the winter, spring and summer seasons, respectively. The major components identified were L- linalool (26.5 - 56.3%), geraniol (12.1 - 16.5%), 1,8-cineole (2.5 - 15.1%), ρ-allylanisole (0.2 - 13.8%) and DL-limonene (0.2 -10.4%). A noteworthy extra component was β- farnesene, which was exclusively detected in the oil extracted during winter and spring at 6.3% and 5.8%, respectively. The essential oil composition over the different seasons was quite idiosyncratic, in which the principal components of one season were either trivial or totally absent in another. The essential oil extracted in spring exhibited the highest antioxidant activity (except DPPH scavenging ability) in comparison with the oils from other seasons. The basil oil was tested against pathogenic fungi viz. Aspergillus niger, A. fumigatus, Penicillium italicum and Rhizopus stolonifer using a disc diffusion method, and by determination of minimum inhibitory concentration. Surprisingly high antifungal values were found highlighting the potential of Omani basil as a preservative in the food and medical industries.

The essential oil of aerial parts of Helichrysum conglobatum (Viv.) Steudel. (Asteraceae) from Cyprus was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The essential oil yield was 0.01, v/w. Forty five compounds were identified in the oil comprising 96.1% of the total. The essential oil was mainly composed of sesquiterpene type compounds and oxygenated sesquiterpene derivatives. The main components of the oil were β-caryophyllene (14.6%), γ-curcumene (14.1%), hexadecanoic acid (13.5%), tetradecanoic acid (7.5%), rosifoliol (5.4%) and δ-cadinene (5.3%). This is the first report on the essential oil composition of H. conglobatum from Cyprus.

The composition of the essential oils of the umbels and fruit of Prangos uloptera, an indigenous Iranian medicinal plant, was determined by GC-MS analyses. A total of 10 and 18 compounds were identified, respectively, from the essential oils of the umbels and the fruit. The identified compounds represented, respectively, 93.2% and 83.0% of the total essential oils. While the main components of the umbels oil were α-pinene (31.78%), β-bourbonene (15.9%), α-curcumene (10.65%), spathulenol (9%) and m-cymene (5.51%), those of the fruit oil were α-pinene (14.98%), β-bourbonene (7.81%), α-humulene (7.74%), germacrene B (7.23%) and n-tetracosane (6.65%).

Three native species of Leptospermum (L. petersonii, L. Flavescens, L. luehmannii) were grown in an amended podsolic soil under 4 nitrogen (N) levels, 0, 20, 40 and 60 kg Nha, supplied as NH4N03. Plants were harvested after 16 weeks growth, leaves were separated from stems, and essential oil was distilled from leaves by steam distillation. Extracted oils were analysed for their components by gas chromatography. Oil density from L. petersonii was also determined. Growth and oil yield of the 3 Leptospermum species showed no response to N fertilisation. However, the oil composition in L. petersonii and L. flavescens leaves was affected. The greatest response was in the geranial and citronella1 contents in L. petersonii, which peaked in the 40 kg N/ha treatment. This is the first known report of the manipulation of essential oil composition of Australian native plants by N fertilisation. The low optimal level of N fertiliser required for maximum production of valuable oil components indicates that Leptospermum spp. are suitable for infertile soils. The low �-pinene yield of L. luehmannii makes it unsuitable for commercial exploitation.

Lippia citriodora is a member of the genus Lippia. The species is endemic to South America, while it is cultivated in the world for the lemon-like aroma emitted by its leaves. In the present study the  effects of different NaCl as well as 24-epibrassinolide concentrations in the  essential oil composition were investigated. In total, eleven treatments were studied. The major essential oil components in control plants were: Geranial (22.52%), Citral (15.88%) Germacrene D (7.42%), Caryophyllene (7.11%), Benzenamine (6.30%), Spathulenol (6.00%) and Curcumene (5.44%). Significant positive/negative correlations occurred between some components with salt concentration. Paired sample tests showed significant differences between major components of an essential oil with salt as well as with 24-epibrassinolide concentrations.

The study aimed to determine agronomic characteristics and essential oil components of different basil ecotypes in semi-arid climatic conditions of South Eastern Anatolia, Diyarbakir, Turkey. Two-year harvest data about fresh and dry herb yield, dry leaf yield, essential oil content and its components from the plants of year 2015 and 2016 was analyzed in this study. Essential oil components were detected by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The resulting outcomes demonstrated that both ecotypes and harvests had important effects on fresh and dry herb, dry leaf yield and essential oil contents of sweet basil. The highest dry leaf yield was noted from green leafy ecotypes and from second harvest stage. Twenty-three constituents were detected in the essential oil of O. basilicum ecotypes. The main components of basil essential oil were linalool, methyl chavicol, neral, geranial and methyl cinnamate that differed according to ecotypes and harvests during experimental years 2015 and 2016. Purple leafy basil ecotypes were determined as linalool rich, while greenish leaf ecotypes were abundant in methyl chavicol. Silbe – green ecotype contains higher neral and geranial levels than the other ecotypes. It was concluded that basil plant could be grown successfully and harvested two or more times to prefer for maximum dry leaf yield and essential oil contents under semi-arid climatic conditions.

Oregano is—probably—the most appreciated and widespread aromatic plant in Sicily. With the aim of evaluating the modifications of oregano’s essential oil composition over time, between 2013 and 2015 six weekly samplings of three different oregano plantations were carried out, from the beginning of flowering (early May) until the traditional harvest moment (end of June). Samples were hydrodistilled and the obtained essential oils (EOs) were evaluated by means of a combination of GC–FID and GC–MS. The Origanum plants under study were demonstrated to belong to the high-yielding, thymol-type biotypes, with thymol, γ-terpinene and p-cymene as three main components, among the total of about 50 of the evaluated EOs. In each location, EO yields were found to increase throughout survey dates. Significant variations were found in many EO components, both across years and throughout harvest dates within locations. The choice of the harvest moment was confirmed to be crucial in assessing quality aspects of oregano.
