Purpose This study aims to investigate the impact of three determinants of organizational identification (OID) on employee performance (EP) in the context of private business institutions. Design/methodology/approach A sample of 175 permanent faculty members from four top universities in Karachi, Pakistan, was interviewed using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire. The data were inserted in SPSS 22 and SmartPLS v 3.2 for performing the analysis. Findings Results of the study showed a significant effect in perceived supervisor support on OID; OID; job satisfaction and EP; and mediating relationship. Conversely, an insignificant effect was observed in workplace incivility. Research limitations/implications It is highly recommended that organizations work on the areas that lead to enhancing their employees’ performance. Also, human resource should create a healthy culture that promotes initiatives, open-door policies and discourages power distance. Lastly, one of the key responsibilities of management is to strengthen their OID because employees are more likely to identify with their supervisors if they invest in the organizations they work for. Practical implications This study will help strengthen the relationship between supervisors and university employees. It will guide the supervisors to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of their subordinates and develop recreational policies and employee engagement activities. In addition, it will help develop a conducive environment and enhance the quality of education in the university and the society. Originality/value Understanding the determinants of OID on EP in the educational context is very important as it enhances the quality of EP and the overall quality of education of the institution.

Objective The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between chiropractic students' coping styles and levels of resilience with their physical injuries, perceived levels of stress, and well-being. Methods A questionnaire was distributed to the entire student body of the chiropractic program at Murdoch University, and gathered demographic variables and responses to the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Perceived Levels of Stress Scale, Everyday Feelings Questionnaire, and Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations. Linear regression analysis was used to calculate for significant relationships. Results Of 244 students, 194 (81%) completed the surveys. Being female and not having recovered from an injury within 12 months was significantly associated with lower levels of well-being and higher levels of stress. Being female, possessing an increased use of an emotional-based coping style, and having lower levels of well-being were associated with higher levels of stress (R2 = 0.65, F(6,164) = 50.47, p < .001). Lower levels of well-being were associated with being female, higher perceived levels of stress, lower levels of resilience, and an increased use emotional coping styles (R2 = 0.64, F[6,164] = 49.5, p < .001). Conclusion It is possible to identify chiropractic students at the university who are at risk of experiencing low levels of well-being and high levels of stress. These students may benefit from interventions aimed at enhancing their coping style choices and increasing their resilience levels. Future studies are recommended to see if these findings are consistent across chiropractic programs nationally and internationally.

Using egocentric network data from the University of California Social Networks Study (1,136 respondents; 11,536 alters), this study examines how difficult ties—an unexplored form of social negativity—are associated with well-being. Findings show that well-being is affected by the quality of the relationship rather than its presence in the network. Having a nondifficult partner is associated with lower loneliness compared to having no partner, but having no partner and having a difficult partner are related to similar levels of loneliness. Likewise, having difficult adult children and having no adult children are associated with reporting greater psychological distress than having nondifficult adult children. Consistent with the stress process model, the negative association of a difficult partner with well-being is buffered when that partner is otherwise supportive and when the other ties in the network are supportive. However, that association is amplified when the other ties are also difficult.

Violent religious extremism is seen as one of the mega-problems of the 21st century. This article based on a key lecture at the conference on Violence in a democratic South Africa at the University of Pretoria and the David de Villiers memorial lecture at the University of Stellenbosch, both held during August 2010 critically discussed the interaction between religion and violence in our present-day, globalised world. Three different propositions on the relationship between religion and violence were scrutinised. In countering the proposition that religion, or more specifically monotheism, necessarily leads to violence, it was argued that violence is not an inherent, but rather an acquired or even an ascribed quality of religion. The second proposition that religion leads to non-violence was affirmed to the extent that religions do provide a strong impulse to overcome violence. However, they also tend to accept violence as an inevitable part of reality and even justify the use of violence on religious grounds. The third proposition was regarded as the most convincing, for it argues that the link between religion and violence is contingent. Some situations do seem to make the use of violence inevitable; however, religions should refrain from justifying the use of violence and maintain a preferential option for nonviolence.

ABSTRACT Social phobia is born of the fear that a person has to come to be judged by others and even this fear can prevent the individual to perform their daily activities. This is how many people who suffer from this phobia feel constant fear of having new interpersonal relationships, speaking in public and this many times before the event of meeting someone new. Although these people know that they should not be afraid of those facts, it is simply something they cannot avoid in their interpersonal relationships since they face a serious problem, since communication and interaction between individuals are of vital importance. Therefore, in this scientific article the causes that gave rise to this disorder were determined in order to establish clear guidelines to improve the quality of life of the individual and its relationship with the environment. The study was conducted on 100 university students. The results allowed to establish that the indices of self-esteem and anxiety indicators were relevant at the time of diagnosing this problem in the university community.

AbstractSeveral studies have explored the relationship between business growth and environmental quality in municipalities, trying to show that an increase in business growth influences environmental degradation. On the other hand, it should also be mentioned that business growth promotes economic growth which would contribute directly or indirectly to the development of environmental management with the implementation of urban policies and projects for the improvement of environmental problems, thus opening up the possibility to the conformation of sustainable urban environments, a hypothesis that is well worth investigating from the reality prevailing in the Municipality of Sucre. This article exposes the discussion, referring to the management and industrial treatment that companies have in regards to the pollution they generate in the municipality of Sucre, complemented with the perception that people have as components of family units and whose quality of life is affected product of the phenomenon of business development in what refers to the pollution generated as an externality for the particular case of the Municipality of Sucre.Key words: Business growth, Environmental Management, quality of life.
