  Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a platelet concentrate that is obtained after centrifugation and may influence tissues healing by growth factors released after platelet degranulation. This treatment has been used for the management of muscles, ligaments, and tendinopathy injuries with promising results, there is still limited clinical evidence for its use. In this study we present the report of a case of a 50-year-old soccer player who presented an injury at the origin of the ischeotibial muscles of the right thigh. On day 13, after the injury, autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (APRP) was applied under ultrasound (US) guidance. The control by US and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) was performed two weeks after the PPR application, which show resolution of the hematoma, and tissue regeneration. The patient returned to his sports activity at week 12 after the PRP treatment, without pain and with improvement in muscular strength The PRP treatment could be an option to avoid surgical procedures in athletes because it could improve muscular strength and healing, added it is easy to obtain and apply. Further studies are necessary to reach a consensus regarding clinical indications, processing and PRP application techniques that rebound in alternatives to improve the quality of life of patients in a cost-effective way, as well as shortening the recovery time of athletes.  Resumen. El plasma rico en plaquetas (PRP) es un concentrado de plaquetas que se obtiene después de centrifugación y puede influir en la curación de los tejidos por los factores de crecimiento liberados después de la desgranulación de las plaquetas. La terapia con PRP ha sido utilizada para el manejo de lesiones de tejidos blandos, como músculos, ligamentos y tendones con resultados prometedores. aunque la evidencia clínica actual para su uso es limitada. En este estudio presentamos el reporte del caso de un jugador de fútbol de 50 años que presentó lesión en el origen de la musculatura isquiotibial del muslo derecho. El día 13, después de la lesión, se le aplicó Plasma Rico en Plaquetas Autólogo (PRPA) guiado por ultrasonido (US). El control por US y resonancia magnética nuclear (RMN) se realizó dos semanas después de la aplicación del PRP, mostrando recuperación de la lesión y resolución del hematoma. El paciente volvió a realizar actividades deportivas en la semana 12 después del tratamiento, sin dolor y con mejoría de la fuerza muscular. El tratamiento con PRP podría ser una opción para evitar procedimientos quirúrgicos mejorando la fuerza muscular y la curación de la musculatura isqueotibial, adicionalmente el PRP es fácil de obtener y aplicar. De igual manera se necesitan más estudios para llegar a un consenso sobre las indicaciones clínicas, el procesamiento y las técnicas de aplicación de PRP que redunden en alternativas para mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes de una manera costo-efectiva, así como acortar el tiempo de recuperación de los atletas.

Digital flexor tendon injuries are the most common cause of early retirement and economic loss in the equine industry due to the poor healing tendency of the tendons. This study was conducted to improve the quality of tendon healing by using Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma incorporated collagen scaffold. Using ultrasound guidance, autologous Platelet Rich Plasma with and without collagen scaffold was engrafted intra-lesionally into 12 affected digital flexor tendons of 11 horses and healing was assessed periodically. Lameness score decreased in all the horses and the therapeutic outcome of intra-lesional engraftment of Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma with collagen scaffold was found to be superior in terms of clinical outcome, ultrasonographic and biochemical assessment. Ultrasonography served as an effective tool for diagnosis and for evaluation of healing tendon injuries.

A male patient with a diagnosis of steroid dependent inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis) sought medical care due to complex perianal fistula with extended chronic inflammation of the perianal region that was successfully treated with platelet-rich plasma as a single therapy. The benefits of autologous platelet-rich plasma for the treatment of this type of fistulas are presented. In this way, there is no need to perform surgery in a chronic inflammatory territory with high rate of complications and recurrence affecting patients’ quality of life.

Background: Chronic ulcers are a big health problem worldwide. Having a great impact at personal, social and professional levels. The use of autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a major advance in the treatment of these ulcers as an easy and cost-effective method. Platelets provide numerous growth factors enhancing tissue healing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma as a treatment of chronic non-healing ulcers.Methods: Autologous PRP was prepared from whole blood by centrifugation and activated by 10% calcium chloride. Twenty-Four (24) patients with non-healing ulcers of different etiologies, whom they met our inclusion criteria, were treated with PRP injected every two weeks locally into their wounds until healing. The ulcer dimensions were measured every week. The follow-up period was 12 weeks after healing.Results: The mean age of the study population 41±21 years. Complete healing was achieved in all patients. The mean rate of healing (average decrease in ulcer dimensions) was 0.48 cm/week. The rate of healing was greater at the week following injection. The mean time for healing was 6.11 weeks.Conclusions: Author witnessed the useful effects of PRP application on enhancing wound healing. The results from our case series showed that PRP is a safe and effective treatment for the promotion of healing chronic ulcers. Further research and controlled, randomized prospective clinical trials on larger patient population are important to validate our results.

Recent studies have been carried out to evaluate the role of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the cicatrization of wounds; however, the protocols for treatment have been based on a single application of PRP.To evaluate the effect of autologous platelet-rich plasma in gel form on the cicatrization of cutaneous wounds in vivo experimental model, wounds were induced in the dorsal areas of six New Zealand white rabbits with the aid of an 8-mm punch. The right side was used as a control (A) and treated with 0.9% NaCl, whereas the left side (B) was treated serially with the autologous platelet-rich plasma gel. Lesions were assessed over a 17-day period. At days 0, 10 and 17, the animals were evaluated and morphological and morphometric analyses of the wounds were performed. At day 17, a biopsy was performed for histopathological evaluation. Macroscopically, wounds treated with PRP showed better cicatrization and higher contraction percentages than the control wounds. Regarding the percentage of wound contraction, it was found that the average treated wound with autologous platelet-rich plasma gelwas 95% while withthecontrolwas88%. We concluded that autologous platelet-rich plasma gel is effective and accelerates cicatrization when used serially in short intervals, thus confirming its therapeutic potential in cutaneous lesions and potential as an alternative wound treatment option.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a significant regenerative therapy used alone or combined mainly with stem cells, autologous fat grafts, hyaluronic acid, and biomaterials in a variety of medical fields, especially in hair regrowth, wound healing, and sports and rehabilitation medicine. However, the results obtained with this biologic therapy are heterogeneous and conflicting. The observed disparities in the effectiveness of PRP therapies may be due to a lack of standardization in blood processing and preparation. This article is aimed at reviewing the main biological parameters that need to be documented for a thorough reporting of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the PRP injected, to allow a comparison between the quality of samples and the clinically obtained results and advance the efforts towards treatment standardization.

<p class="abstract"><strong>Background:</strong> Adhesive capsulitis of should is also called frozen shoulder which describes a chronic, indolent pathological process in which the body forms excessive adhesions across the glenohumeral joint which in turn leads to pain, stiffness, and loss of range of movements which compromises the quality of life. The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and functional outcome of autologous PRP injection and hydrodissection in adhesive capsulitis of shoulder.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Methods:</strong> After excluding the patients who failed to satisfy the study protocol, the remaining 100 patients are divided equally into two groups namely group A (n=50) who receive autologous PRP injection and group B (n=50) who receive hydrodissection for adhesive capsulitis of shoulder. Both group participants are followed up pre-procedurally and post-procedurally at the end of 1<sup>st</sup>, 6<sup>th</sup> and 12<sup>th</sup> month for pain relief and range of movements. The improvements in pain and range of movements are charted in terms of VAS and DASH scoring system.<strong></strong></p><p class="abstract"><strong>Results:</strong> The statistical analysis were done for 46 patients in group A and 45 patients in group B which showed a statistical improvement in pain and range of movements (p&lt;0.001 for VAS score and p&lt;0.01 for DASH score) in group A who received autologous platelet rich plasma therapy. Autologous PRP therapy improves the functional quality of life with a long term outcome.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Conclusions:</strong> For adhesive capsulitis of shoulder, autologous PRP therapy remains functionally superior than hydrodissection as autologous PRP is a constructive procedure by rejuvenating the degenerative tissues.</p><p> </p>

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the action of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on cutaneous wounds, containing skin autografts, in the gluteal region of horses. Seven healthy horses were used. Two 6 x 6cm cutaneous wounds were produced on each side of the gluteal region. Eight days after wound induction, grafts were performed with skin fragments harvested from the neck, as well as the application of PRP, prepared by double-centrifugation protocol. Wounds with autografts on the left side received PRP (group T), and those with autografts on the right side did not receive treatment (group C). Macroscopic and microscopic evaluations were performed, considering the integration of autografts and retraction of wound edges, as well as neovascularization, inflammatory infiltrate, young fibroblasts, collagenization, reepithelization and autografts integration. There was no difference between the groups (P > 0.05) in relation to most macroscopic and microscopic variables. However, neovascularization was significantly greater (p = 0.0191) in group T, on the 14th day after grafting. It is concluded that PRP favors the process of skin repair with autografts in horses, since it increases the neovascularization in the initial phase of wound healing. Furthermore, the PRP seems to positively influence the integration of the skin autografts and the retraction of the wound edges.
