Through what the researcher's came to as results, she recommended: The necessity of holding training workshops on the importance of time in the student's academic and social life at Al Zaeim Al Azhari university, introducing courses on all levels of education on time management and its strategy.

This study examines whether various environmental factors and the socio-economic status of families influence academic achievement (cumulative grade point average) of students at Asmara College of Education (Asmara, Eritrea). A questionnaire survey was conducted among students to gather information on this subject. Descriptive statistics, crosstabs, Person chi-squared tests were used and analysis of variance was performed by the authors to study data. The results indicate that none of the variables examined, except gender of students and learning resources pro-vided by their families to them, affect cumulative grade point averages. Many students perceive that their academic achievement could be improved instead by building intrinsic motivation, plan-ning, and effective time management. Furthermore, Eritrea provides free education at all levels, including higher institutions, which thereby minimizes socio-economic constraints and provides equal opportunities to all citizens. However, parents should pay attention to their children to im-prove their academic performance, while colleges should also support students by providing a conducive environment for learning.

Academic achievement may be influenced by catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) polymorphism. A common functional polymorphism of COMT, the rs4680 is consistently being involved in the modulation of dopaminergic pathway and prefrontal cortex function which may predominantly affect cognitive functions. A total of 197 female participants were recruited in this study. The score of student’s grade point average (GPA) from the latest previous semester was used as the measurement of academic achievement. The COMT polymorphism was genotyped using tetra primer allele specific polymerase chain reaction. The findings indicated that there were 8 (4.1 %), 72 (36.5 %), and 117 (59.4 %) participants harbouring Met/Met, Met/Val, and Val/Val genotype for COMT polymorphism respectively. All the genotype distributions of COMT polymorphism were consistent with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (χ2 = 0.495, p > 0.05). The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) result demonstrated that participants bearing Met/Met genotype had a better achievement in GPA as compared to the other COMT genotypes (p = 0.001). These findings support evidence that the affective role of COMT polymorphism might overwhelm cognitive abilities in measures of academic achievement like GPA.

Previous research suggests that contributing factors such as previous academic result, coping and time management can predict student success at the universities.  The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between previous academic grades, coping and time management practices on academic achievement among undergraduate students from four of Malaysia public institutions for higher education. 551 university students completed a Time Management Questionnaire (TMQ), COPE Inventory and provided their self-reported high school grades and current Grade Point Average (GPA).  Analysis of data from descriptive and inferential statistics was done.  Results showed that previous academic grades and the practice of time management (short range planning and attitude toward time) have no direct effect on academic achievement.  However, the use of coping strategies (problem focused and denial focused) and the practice of time management (long range planning) showed that there was a significant effect on Grade Point Average (GPA).

Purpose: This research investigates the impact of being part-time-worker students towards their academic achievement. Methodology/Approach/Design: This research used qualitative descriptive research method which is appropriate for the design of this research. The data were collected from 44 higher students for the questionnaire and 10 students for the interview at English Department, IAIN Kediri by administering 32 questions for the questionnaire and 14 questions for the interview. Results: The finding of this research is discovering that there are two main motivations to be a part-time-worker student, financial factor and experience factor. However, the part-time-worker students are still able to achieve good grade point average (GPA) or even they can achieve better academic achievement caused by the experience they got by being part-time-worker student and it cannot be got from only being an ordinary academic student. Therefore, higher students can be a part-time worker students by paying attention on time management which plays a pivotal role and finding out a minimum duration for working but it can cover what their purposes are. Practical Implication: The findings of this study present various implications for concerned authorities to address the emerging issues of university students. Joining a part-time job has its merits and demerits. However, further exploration of this phenomenon has to be implemented. Originality/Value: The study examines a social issue that is continually aggravating. The results of the study offer an insider look into the students’ motifs and pressures exerted upon them to join part-time jobs.

This paper aims to investigate the language used by newspapers in post-revolutionary Iran. More precisely, the paper sets out to analyze how such a language is deployed to represent relevant hegemonic ideologies. The approach adopted for this purpose draws inspiration mainly from critical linguistics, where it is hypothesized that, as far as the pertinent metadiscourse goes, media genres serve to activate and perpetuate social power relations. In keeping with this theoretical stance, the paper argues that socially constructed texts can be said to perform two complementary functions; on the one hand, they shed light on the realities experienced in social life; on the other, they reveal such aspects of those realities as are constructed through the use of language. It is thus in this context that the media language used in the post-revolutionary Iran lends itself to analytical investigation, where the available data reveal the co-existence of three competing discourse processes of ‘Islamization’, ‘Iranian Nationalism’ and ‘Western liberalism’, relating to the third stage development of post-revolutionary Iran.

Abstract This article reports a quantitative empirical study that investigated whether English language proficiency increases over time when studying academic content through English Medium Instruction (EMI). It was also investigated whether an increase in proficiency predicts EMI academic achievement. Student English language test score data and Grade Point Average (GPA) data were collected from a public university in Turkey. Two academic subjects were compared: Business Administration (a Social Science subject, n = 81) and Mechatronics Engineering (a Mathematics, Physical and Life Sciences subject, n = 84). Results showed that in both subjects, English language proficiency statistically significantly improved over a four-year period of studying through English. Furthermore, this improvement predicted EMI academic achievement; meaning that the more proficient students became in English, the higher they achieved in their EMI academic studies. This provides evidence for policymakers, EMI practitioners, and language professionals around the world that English does improve when studying academic content through English, and that this improvement has a positive effect on content learning outcomes. Implications of these findings, and suggestions for further research are discussed.
