Background/Purpose: ‘Growth’ is the aim and goal of any company – be it a startup or a conglomerate. Of late, the retail industry is growing steadily, especially in the field of e-retailing. Reliance Industries which came into the Retail business in 2006 has seen rapid and consistent success in its growth. This success is due to an assortment of contributing factors worth discussing. Objective: To observe the growth saga of Reliance Industries and review the contributing factors that helped this growth. Design/Methodology/Approach: Analysis and presentation of information collected from various scholarly articles, web articles, and also using SWOC framework. Findings/Result: Based on the study through various resources and also by analyzing the facts and figures, it is observed that sustaining in Retail market is a tough job which also requires many strategies and procedures to be amicably followed. Creativity and Innovation, Mergers and Acquisitions are some of the proven solutions for the same. Research limitations/implications: The analysis and solutions mentioned in this paper are limited to Industries whose business and annual turnover and experience is as close to Reliance Industry. Originality/Value: This paper focuses on various factors and scenarios that has made the growth of the Reliance Industry possible and taken it to the level of being labelled as mega Conglomerate. Background/Purpose: Capgemini, a pioneer in the IT business, has more than 45 years of worldwide experience collaborating with driving collisions and now takes its Guiding, Development, and Re-appropriating ability to India. Background/Purpose: Paytm that represents Pay-through-portable is by and by the main market player inside the e-wallet exchange. Paytm is the largest financial services firm in India, offering full-stack payments and financial solutions to clients, offline shops, and internet platforms. During this contextual analysis, worked to conceal Paytm's sale and positioning scheme, primarily after the demonetization drive was declared on November 7th, 2016. It is worth to discuss the strategies of Paytm towards digital payment in India. Objective: To observe the growth of Paytm and review the contributing factors that helped this growth. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the state of French medium sized business schools in the Grandes Ecole sector of education and how networks and alliances help business schools survive in an ever-changing and global environment. Design/methodology/approach The material for empirical research for this paper was gathered by using a case study method of four small to medium sized provincial Institutions of Management Education in France. Findings The paper demonstrates that all of the business schools studied rely on networks and alliances to face globalisation and internationalise their strategy and seems to follow the three typologies of mergers and acquisitions set down by Napier (1989): extension mergers, collaborative mergers and redesign mergers. At present, the networks and alliances are used on a marginal or peripheral way by networking only a part of the institution at one time. Research limitations/implications Further research at a later date needs to be carried out in order to observe if the pattern will remain or if there may be networks which will start from the core of the institution since the organisations will in the future have more of an international or global culture. Originality/value The value of this paper is to demonstrate that medium-sized business schools can compensate their limited resources and compete in the global education market. Alliances and networks appear as key ways in achieving goals of sustainability and survival.

Purpose – This paper aims to assess the facility management (FM) practices in public and private buildings, and compare the practices in both the buildings. This paper critically analysed the current FM practices and explored the range of contributions that the facility manager could offer in both public and private buildings. Design/methodology/approach – A case study of 19 public and 20 private buildings in Ibadan and Akure cities was carried out in this paper. Findings – The paper revealed that the state of FM awareness is higher in private buildings than in public buildings and that FM practices in the two types of buildings are significantly related, but the extent of usage of FM methods are significantly different in the buildings. It was also observed in the research that corrective and responsive FM practices are the order of the day in both public and private buildings. Practical implications – The paper acknowledged that the involvement of the facility manager with the integrated design team if implemented efficiently will contribute in reducing the need for major repairs and alterations in the lifespan of the facility and that the practices of preventive, planned and immediate responsive approaches would better the life of buildings. Social implications – The paper recommended that stricter action should be taken to mitigate against the poor handling and misuse of buildings by users, as it affects negatively the success story of FM in the country. Originality/value – This paper reached out to address the lack of proper FM in the country.

Purpose Between 1985 and 2001, only 45 of 90,480 total European mergers and acquisitions were identified as a merger of equals (Zaheer et al., 2003). This indicates that there were less than 1 per cent of the M&A deals that could actually be categorized as a merger of equals. This paper aims to analyse two recent mergers and assess to what extent they are “of equals”. Design/methodology/approach The paper takes a multi-case study approach looking specifically at the Lafarge-Holcim and DuPont-Dow Chemical mergers. Findings Zaheer et al. (2003) point out that in the case of a merger of equals emotions run usually high, perceptions of fairness and unfairness are strongly related to identification with their former organizations, and the very idea of “equality” can backfire, as integration can never be equal in all its aspects. It remains to be seen if the Lafarge-Holcim and the DuPont-Dow Chemicals will truly be equal. Practical implications The paper provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world’s leading organizations. Originality/value The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a success story involving the extending of lean manufacturing practices between a focal firm and its supplier, both located in Brazil, thereby configuring a case of excellence. Design/methodology/approach – An in-depth case study was conducted involving two companies: Company A, focal, leader in its segment, located in Brazil; and Company B, Company A's supplier, also located in Brazil. Findings – Results indicate there are several mechanisms for extending lean manufacturing practices in the supply chain, such as workshops, training, and integrated teams. These mechanisms are shown and guidelines are also introduced for companies seeking to successfully extend lean manufacturing practices. Originality/value – An original use of define, measure, analyze, improve, control for structuring the extending of lean manufacturing practices to suppliers and, consequently, the importance of the lean six-sigma relationship in this context. Furthermore, the guidelines introduced serve as a benchmark for other companies interested in the topic.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between leadership and business model innovation (BMI) in an entrepreneurial firm. From the literature, it was found that the role of a leader in BMI was unexplored. A research framework was created which was the replication of the model created showing the relationship between leadership and innovation. Design/methodology/approach The qualitative single in-depth case study was used to understand the effects of leadership in BMI. The case of an entrepreneurial firm in the graphic and animation education sector from India was chosen to test the research framework. The leader of Xplora Design Skools was observed closely, and he was interviewed multiple times. Findings From the analysis, it was clear that, in this organization, the leader was a trigger for BMI through creating and influencing creativity and innovation in the organization. This case also shows that he was making tangible contribution to the work being done and motivating his employees. These initiatives show his influence on the process or execution of BMI. Originality/value This is the first study explores the role of a leader in BMI in an entrepreneurial firm in emerging economy contexts like India.

Background/Purpose: Bicycles are a popular means of transportation in rural areas, especially among low-income populations, but they are also gaining popularity in metropolitan areas, especially among the fortunate and affluent. The Indian bicycle industry is dominated by roadsters, fancy, teenagers, and other types of bicycles such bicycles include mountain bikes, sports bikes, hybrid bikes, touring bikes, and other motorcycles. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of India's bicycle industry and examined it in depth. Objective: To observe the growth and challenges of Bicycle Industries and review the contributing factors that helped this growth. Design/Methodology/Approach: Analysis and presentation of information collected from various scholarly articles, web articles, and using SWOT framework. Findings/Result: Based on the analysis of facts and figures and also by looking at the various scenarios of expansion of the Bicycle industry in India, it is seen that this industry has seen considerable growth and progress in various avenues such as the country's economy, the contribution of the international economy, research in bicycle area. Few recommendations are also suggested to take the concept further. Originality/Value: This paper study provides a concise overview of the bicycle industry based on the different data gathered, as well as information on its existing state, needs, and potential for future improvement.
