Hypertension in the elderly is often not realized (silent disease), this is due to the result of reduced muscle flexibility of the blood vessels which will cause thickening of the arteries and even stiffening, causing the arteries and aorta to lose their adaptive capacity and the walls of these blood vessels to become inelastic and causes the blood that leaves the heart to flow that is not smooth. Treatment for hypertension sufferers can also be done non pharmacologically or using traditional medicine, one of which can use chayote. Chayote can lower blood pressure because chayote contains potassium. Potassium is a mineral that is good for lowering or controlling blood pressure. The aim of this case study was giving chayote juice to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive elderly. This type of research is descriptive with the case study method. The subjects of this study were two hypertensive elderly patients with blood pressure more than 140 - 90 mmHg and able to communicate. The results of the case studies show that there is a change in blood pressure drop from before consuming chayote juice and after consuming chayote juice, so it is hoped that the elderly can consume chayote juice regularly.

Hypertension is a silent killer is the most common health problem experienced by the elderly. Control of hypertension in the elderly is very necessary to reduce complications of hypertension. Based on these conditions, the MERONA Program was developed. The purpose is to provide an overview of the implementation of the blush program in the elderly with hypertension. The method used is a family case study and an aggregate using a family and community nursing process approach involving 10 foster families and 60 elderly people in the community selected using cluster random sampling. This program is an integration of hypertension self-management and relaxation therapy, namely music therapy, progressive muscle relaxation, and deep breathing relaxation which is carried out for 12 weeks. Evaluation of changes in behavior and family independence was carried out at the end of the 12th week using a questionnaire. Blood pressure measurements were carried out at weeks 4, 8, and 12. The results of the implementation were an increase in the behavior of the elderly, an increase in the level of family independence, and a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p<0.05). The MERONA program is recommended to be applied in community health services.

The prevalence of cases of hypertension is very high in the elderly, namely 60% -80% at the age above 65 years. The number of elderly people suffering from hypertension at Budi Luhur Jambi PSTW in November 2018 was 22 elderly and had received regular hypertension medication every day but the elderly blood pressure was still high. The purpose of this study is to see whether there is any effect of progressive muscle relaxation therapy on blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension. This study used the Quasi Experiment method with the design of Non Equivalent Control Group Pretest-Posttest, with random sampling technique, the number of samples was 20 elderly consisting of 10 elderly experimental groups given hypertension drugs as well as progressive muscle relaxation therapy and 10 elderly control groups who only given hypertension medication. This research was conducted at Budi Luhur PSTW Jambi on 28 January-2 February 2019. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is given once a day every morning for six consecutive days. Based on the analysis using the Dependent T test in the experimental group, it was found that systolic blood pressure was p value 0.0001 and diastolic blood pressure was p value 0.002 <(0.05). the results of the analysis using the Independent T test found differences in the blood pressure of the experimental group and control where systolic blood pressure p value 0.031 <(0.05), while the diastolic blood pressure p value 0.009 <(0.05), it can be concluded that there significant to the blood pressure of elderly people with hypertension before and after being given progressive muscle relaxation therapy. This study is expected to be a new program at PSTW Budi Luhur Jambi to reduce high blood pressure in elderly people who suffer from hypertension.
