Abstract: Incorporation of unconventional feed ingredients in poultry ration plays a pivotal role in successful and economic poultry production. Distillers Dried Grains with Soluble is now becoming a popular unconventional ingredient for livestock as well as poultry feed due to its high nutritive value and lower price. In West Bengal Rice based Distillers Dried Grains with Soluble (RDGS) is predominantly available. When it comes to feeding Dried Rice Distillers Grains with Solubles (RDGS) to poultry birds, there is no formal recommendation regarding dietary concentration. Hence, the present study was conducted to assess the effects of varying levels of RDGS inclusion on “Vanaraja” chicken production performance. Total 144 numbers of Vanaraja birds were included to conduct the present study. They were divided randomly into three (3) groups (n = 48) with three (3) different dietary treatments that includes Control (C) without inclusion of RDGS, Treatment – I (T1) with 6% RDGS inclusion of the total diet / day and Treatment – II (T2) with 12% RDGS inclusion of the total diet / day respectively. The experiment continued up to 32 weeks of age of the birds. The performance parameters on the basis of body weight (BW) and egg production upto that age were recorded. Result showed that inclusion of RDGS increased body weight of the birds significantly than the group without inclusion of RDGS. Among the two supplemented groups the treatment group II (T2) i.e. inclusion of RDGS @ 12% of the total diet /day was having maximum body weight (2678.37±5.20 g / bird at 32 weeks). The egg production per hen also significantly increased in the supplemented groups than the non supplemented group. So among the two doses of RDGS inclusion, the second group (T2) showed best result. Therefore, it can be concluded from the above study that in rural condition where low quality feed is available to the birds, inclusion of RDGS as a protein source is beneficial to the birds. Application of different medicinal mushrooms intended to enhance production performance and health status has created an importance demand in poultry production. One goal of using medicinal mushrooms is to get rid of antibiotics in poultry feed without affecting the optimum performance. Increasing concerns about this issue have led to more attention on antibiotic substitutes and a significant demand for them for organic egg production. Thus, supplementation with medicinal mushrooms is a new concept for research in layer production, however, there is still a great deal of confusion about inclusion levels and the mode of action of medicinal mushrooms on production performance and health status in laying hens. Taking this into account, this review outlines the experimental uses of medicinal fungi on the growth performance, laying performance, egg quality, and health status of layer birds based on previous findings to date. Finally, we highlight that supplementation with medicinal fungi can play a role on the immunity, health, and production performance in laying hens.

Abstract: The egg of domestic fowl has been an important constituent of the cuisine of people around the world. The present study was carried out with the objective to analyse the influence of selected poultry feed on the size, weight and protein content of egg by feeding the hens with four different types of feed. Hens of the laying Gramasree variety were used in this experiments. Egg size, weight and the protein content was recorded as per standard procedures. Egg production significantly reduced in hen fed with cooked rice alone. When considering egg size and weight, domestic fowl fed with wheat, soya and groundnut had greater size. However, there has not been much variation in the protein content of all the eggs produced by the four hens in the present study. The study provides a baseline indication that the quality, size and weight of the egg are greatly influenced by their feed. ABSTRAK             Kandungan energi dan protein pakan merupakan faktor yang mempengaruhi kualitas pakan dan performans produksi ternak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh imbangan energi dan protein berbeda dalam ransum puyuh fase grower terhadap konsumsi pakan, perrtambahan bobot badan, dan konversi pakan. Seratus dua puluh DOQ disebar secara acak pada 24 unit kandang percobaan. Perlakuan yang dicobakan terdiri atas 2 level energi pakan (2700 dan 2900 kkal/kg) dan 3 level protein pakan (18, 20, dan 22%), sehingga terdapat 6 kombinasi perlakuan, yaitu R1 (2700 EM – 18% PK), R2 (2700 EM – 20% PK), R3 (2700 EM – 22% PK), R4 (2900 EM – 18% PK), R5 (2900 EM – 20% PK), dan R6 (2900 EM – 22% PK). Pakan yang dicobakan merupakan pakan self mixing. Parameter yang diamati adalah konsumi pakan, pertambahan bobot badan, dan konversi pakan puyuh umur 2 hingga 6 minggu. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan analisis ragam dan dilanjutkan dengan uji wilayah berganda duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa imbangan energi-protein pakan berbeda tidak memberikan pengaruh (P>0,05) pada konsumsi pakan, pertambahan bobot badan, dan konversi pakan. Kombinasi energi metabolisme 2700 kkal/kg dan 18% protein sudah dapat memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisi puyuh periode grower.Kata Kunci: protein, energi, puyuh, grower   ABSTRACT             Energy and protein that contained in poultry feed is a factor that affect the feed quality and poultry production performance. This research aimed to study the effect of different energy and protein balance in quail feed on feed consumption, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. One hundred and twenty day old quails were divided into 24 units enclosure research. The trial feed was consist of 2 levels of energy feed (2700 and 2900 kcal/kg) and 3 levels of crude protein (18, 20, and 22% CP), so that there were 6 combinations of treatments, i.e. R1 (2700 ME – 18% CP), R2 (2700 ME – 20% CP), R3 (2700 ME – 22% CP), R4 (2900 ME – 18% CP), R5 (2900 ME – 20% CP), R6 (2900 ME – 22% CP). The used feed was a self mixing feed. The observed parameters were feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio of quail at 2-6 weeks of age. The data obtained were analyzed using variance analysis and continued using Duncan’s multiple range test. The result showed that the balance of energy-protein in quail feed did not affect (P>0,05) feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. The combination of 2700 kcal/kg metabolizable energy and 18% cruse protein could already maintain the needs of the grower period of quail nutrients.Keywords: protein, energy, quail, grower

The present study was conducted to evaluate the optimum level of dietary inclusion and the form of feeding sapu-sapu fish (SSF) as a single protein source for feed components of small holder Mojosari duck farming. A total of 180 twenty four wk-old laying ducks were fed with two forms (sun-dried and ground-fresh) and three levels of SSF (10, 20 and 30%) from 24 to 32 wk of age. Experimental diets were formulated containing 105.1; 141.5 and 177.9 g/kg crude protein and 3078; 3065 and 3052 kcal metabolizable energy (ME) /kg diet. Production performance and egg quality were measured. The form of SSF had a significant effect (P<0.0001) on feed intake, egg production, feed conversion, egg mass and egg number except final body weight. No significant effects (P>0.05) were found on all of the performance parameters measured due to feeding levels of SSF except feed intake and final body weight. The interaction of form and feeding level was significant (P<0.05) on egg and body weights. Low performance and egg quality were observed in the birds fed a diet containing the dried SSF. It can be suggested that local ducks required 20% SSF as a single protein source for maximum egg production (41.2%) and total egg number per wk (3.1 eggs/bird/wk) during 8 wk of rearing period. Egg quality can be improved by feeding the fresh SSF. However, due to be sufficiently better processing technique, the dried SSF would be potential to replace the common fish for laying ducks.

Present study was carried out to study egg production performance and polymorphism of Prolactin gene at 24 bp indel locus at promoter region (PRL24). Egg production performances were recorded as age at first egg (AFE), Body Weight at First Egg (WFE), Mean Egg Weight (MEW) and Total No. of Eggs at 90 days of laying (TEN). DNA was isolated from blood of 20 Kadaknath birds collected from wing vein. PRL24 locus for indel polymorphism was amplified by PCR and the product was resolved on 6% native PAGE for genotyping. The AFE (d), WFE (Kg), MEW (g) and TEN of Kadaknath hens in the present study were found to be 188.00±0.71, 1.26±0.03, 42.83±0.21 and 37.75±0.59 respectively. The Prolactin gene locus PRL24 showed two alleles I and D and three genotypes: II, ID and DD. The frequencies of I and D alleles at this locus were 0.55 & 0.45 respectively. The birds of D allele had a significantly (P<0.05) better TEN than birds of I allele.

Abstract Poultry meat production is one of the most dynamic sectors in agriculture, recording the quickest growth in the food industry, while egg production has shown strong growth in the last twenty years. Combined with meat production, it is achieving the highest growth when it comes to meeting protein needs for the global population. In economic terms, coccidiosis is one of the most significant poultry diseases. Effective application of coccidiostats in poultry feed has been playing a key role in development of commercial poultry production for more than 50 years. The aim of this research was to estimate occurrence and residue concentrations of coccidiostats in table eggs, poultry liver and meat, available on the market in Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). Residues of lasalocid were found in table eggs, while residues of nicarbazin, maduramicin and diclazuril were detected in broiler meat and liver.

In the present feeding trial, responses of laying hens, kept at high ambient temperature, to various dietary ratios of linoleic acid (LNA) to α-linolenic acid (ALA) and vitamin A levels on performance and egg characteristics were evaluated. A total of 360, 40-wk-old, Leghorn laying hens were fed on diets with various combinations of canola oil and linseed oil to achieve LNA to ALA dietary ratios of 20:1, 10:1, 4:1, 2:1, 1:1 and 1:2, each supplemented with 3000 IU or 10000 IU vitamin A/kg of diet. The diets were fed in a 6×2 factorial Completely Randomized Design that continued for 12 weeks. Feed intake, weight gain, egg production and egg quality traits were recorded during the trial. Decreasing dietary LNA to ALA ratio in the diet affected negatively (P<0.05) on body weight gain and yolk percentage in laying hens. While, feed intake, hen-day and hen-housed egg production, feed conversion ratio (FCR) per dozen of eggs and shell quality remained unaffected (P>0.05) by dietary treatments, with the exception of FCR per kg eggs, egg weight and egg-shell thickness which responded significantly (P<0.05) to various dietary treatments. Although the dietary ratio of LNA to ALA of 4:1 or less could produce eggs by the hens with desirable quantities of n-6 and n-3 poly unsaturated fatty acids – that are characteristics of functional diets – the performance of laying hens in terms of body weight gain and egg-yolk percentage was slightly compromised.

Poultry production, health and wellbeing are highly dependent upon formulation of balanced rations in terms of energy, protein, and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). Among all, minerals are required in fewer quantities, but they are very important to maintain the productivity in poultry. Minerals present in the feeds are less bioavailable and additional supplementation is obligatory to meet the physiological demands of poultry. Conventionally, minerals are supplemented as inorganic salts, which are less absorbed and, thus, a major proportion is excreted to the surroundings creating environment issues. Nano-minerals and organic mineral chelates are other alternative to be used as livestock and poultry feed supplements. Though organic minerals are more bioavailable than inorganic salts, their high cost limits its use. In contrast, nano-minerals are relatively easy to synthesize at a lower cost. Nano-minerals are of the size from 1–100 nm and due to such small size, there is an enormous increase in surface area and thus their biological responses. The biological response studies have signified better retention of nano-minerals as compared to inorganic salts, and consequently leached less to the environment preventing possible pollution. Apart from these, nano-minerals have been shown to enhance growth, egg production and quality, immune-modulation and antioxidant status, and at the same time economize the production by reducing the supplemental dose of minerals and improving the feed conversion ratio. Some nano-minerals and other nanoparticles have strong antimicrobial effects, which have been shown to reduce pathogenic microorganisms in the gut. Nano-minerals seem to be less toxic than conventional mineral sources. Though less, few studies have indicated toxic effects of nano-mineral supplementation at higher dose of application, which should be validated by more programmed studies. Nanotechnology in poultry production system is still in its budding stage and more detailed studies are warranted to validate, establish and search for new effects of nano-minerals as they sometimes produce effects beyond expectation. This review highlights the biological responses of nanominerals on poultry production performance, quality of meat and eggs, tissue retention, immunity, antioxidant activity and antimicrobial actions compared with their conventional mineral sources.

Growth, survival and egg production performance and profitability of exotic chicken breeds were evaluated under small-scale chicken producers in urban and peri-urban areas of Bahir Dar City from 2018 to 2019. Data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires, monitoring and field observation. Thirty-three small-scale chicken enterprises (30 from urban and three from peri-urban areas) were included in this study. All questionnaire data were analyzed using SPSS Version 20. The monitoring data was analyzed with ANOVA using the general linear model (GLM) procedure of SAS version 9.0. The monitoring result revealed that the growth performance of chicken significantly varied with respect to breeds and production systems of producers. Sasso T44 had higher daily body weight gain (10.66 ± 0.03 g) and total body weight gain (1642 ± 5.02 g) within 22 weeks of age in the urban areas. The mean egg production for Bovans Brown at the age of six months was 124.8 ± 4.10 eggs. The annual mean egg production performance of Bovans Brown was 239.63 ± 4.32. The overall mortality rate of all exotic chicken was 6.5%. Despite many constraints, small-scale chicken production was profitable. Seasonal disease outbreaks, shortages of feed and housing problems were the major constraints of small-scale chicken producers. The growth performance and survival rate of exotic chicken was promising, but the egg production was low. Therefore, the management practices of small-scale chicken enterprises in the study area should be improved.
