This research work responds to the need to find a new way to evaluate the design alternatives generated in the concept development phase under the focus of the emotions that the future product may arouse in the users. In order to achieve the proposed objectives and to give an answer to the problems found in the field of methods for the evaluation and selection of alternatives, the corresponding methodological approach was carried out, describing a methodology of intervention research where the stages of analysis, synthesis, praxis, and conclusions must be considered. In the analysis stage, the theoretical framework was built, describing the issues that underlie the research concerning the process of design and product development, the theoretical foundations of emotional design, and the state of the question, describing the methods of evaluation and selection of existing alternatives most used in the design and development of products. Once the analysis was concluded in the synthesis stage the proposal of a solution to the problem was raised through the design of a new method taking, as a model of the process of design and development of products the one proposed by Ulrich and Eppinger and the taxonomies of the emotions of Desmet and Fokkinga as a base for the emotional evaluation. For the practical stage, a case study was designed with the collaboration of the company "Química Son's S.A de C.V." where the method was applied using the application software ValorEmon for the evaluation of design alternatives and subsequent decision-making. Finally, the conclusions of the research were made in response to the objectives and hypothetical approach of the same.

ABSTRACT The optimization of pumping stations operation in water distribution networks has been largely studied, especially with the development of speed drivers, which allowed the machines to adjust the hydraulic power inserted to the system according to the demand requirements. Although this approach results in high benefits, the original characteristics of pumps remains the same. Consequently, the pumps can be operating in a range of suboptimal efficiency. Thus, this paper will evaluate the benefits that an optimized pump selection can bring for variable speed operation. The selection of the pumps best efficiency point and the number of pumps operating in parallel are defined applying Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to minimize the energy costs of the system. For the case study, the results show that there is no benefit when more pumps are operated in parallel, and that a flexible operational routine significantly reduces the energy expenses, especially when the pump is selected for this purpose.

Goal: This work aims to compare performance indicators of the pulled, pushed and hybrid production schedule, with those of a specific production environment of the printing industry, using computational simulation. Design / Methodology / Approach: Through a case study, it was possible to create a conceptual model, from which a computational model that was verified and validated as representative of the real productive system was developed. There are generated fictional models of the production environments to compare cycle time, work in process and attendance to the demand, varying the quantity of orders confirmed by the final clients. Results: The CONWIP (Constant Work in Process) system presented very high cycle times and failure to meeting the demand, although it was kept in the format of the work in process. The actual real system and the pushed system obtained the worst performances regarding the work in process, besides presenting failures to meeting the demand and very high cycle times. The pulled system obtained the best performance to meet the demand, and cycle times adequate to the production requirement and moderate work in process. Limitations of the investigation: The application of the methodology was limited to the study of a single productive system of a print industry and cannot be extended to the entire sector. Practical implications: This work presents a practical application of computer simulation tools applied to Production Planning and Controls which may be replicated by other organizations or educational institutions for system performance analysis in different scenarios. Originality / Value: The original contribution of this work is the application of computational simulation for a production system in a print industry without interference in a real system.

AbstractThis research paper aims to model Mass Movements Susceptibility (MMS) in the province of Tétouan. First, we identified the characteristics and spatial mapping of the different types of MM (collapse, mudflows, and complex landslides) by means of the interpretation of satellite images and from fieldwork. Subsequently, we selected the predictive parameters controlling the occurrence of MM e.g. lithology, land use, fault density, hydrographic network density, slope degrees, slope aspects, and elevation. We used the heuristic method for Modeling Mass Movements Susceptibility (MMMS). The choice of this method compared to other methods (fractal, factorial, and neurons) is justified by the possibilities of intervention and the judgment of the expert who relies on the ground truth to select the parameters, to identify the classes, and to assign the weights to each one; unlike to other methods with steps that are done automatically and randomly. The results of the validation of the susceptibility map correspond to 70% compared to the field data and it includes five susceptibility classes (not susceptible, low, moderate, high, and very high). Indeed, the originality of this paper relies on the fact that the creation of our susceptibility map will eventually indicate the areas of roads, dwellings, the extension of urbanization, and dams, which are located in areas at risk of MM. Our map is also a powerful decision-making tool to conduct management plans and to guide the selection of sites to build new projects; which help mitigate the socio-economic impacts usually encountered when mass movements in Tétouan province are triggered.

The inventory and assessment of a geosite in a territory provides a sound basis for the protection and use of its geological heritage. This article aims to evaluate the most relevant geosites in the province of Chimborazo (Ecuador), applying the Spanish Inventory of Sites of Geological Interest (IELIG, in Spanish) method, and proposing alternatives for geotourism development in the studied area. The methodological process was based on: (i) the inventory and preliminary selection of geosites; (ii) a semi-quantitative geosite assessment and proposal of travel itineraries for geotourism; and (iii) the application of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) matrix to establish geotourism development strategies within a framework of sustainability. The global assessment of scientific, tourist, and academic interests demonstrates that 25% of the 20 evaluated geosites have very high interest and 75% have high interest. The top three geosites with the highest degrees of interest are the Chimborazo Volcano, known as ‘Earth’s Closest Point to the Sun’, the Pallatanga geological fault, and the geosite named Comunidad Cacha. The SWOT analysis reveals that travel itineraries that combine cultural heritage elements and geosites could offer a real alternative for the region’s sustainable development through geotourism.

One of the factors that can affect a person's behavior is a communication message. In the context of the da`wah, preachers who involved actively in da`wah communication with the Orang Asli should be able to ensure that the message conveyed can be understood by the target group. In addition, the selection of the correct messages of da`wah based on the foremost priority simplify the process of sharing information between the preachers and the Orang Asli. Accordingly, this article aims to identify specific topics of Islamic faith (akidah) submitted by the Orang Asli in the process of da`wah communication and to identify verbal feedback given by the preachers to the Orang Asli of the topics. This qualitative study using case study design and data was collected through semi-structured interviews. Interviews involving nine preachers were active in da`wah activity to the Orang Asli community in Selangor. Data were analyzed thematically according to the specified objectives. The study found that the topics frequently raised by the Orang Asli is concerned about belief in Allah, belief in Malaikat, and belief in Qada' and Qadar. The topics may be found within the framework of worldview in their beliefs and practice of ancient traditions. Therefore, the preachers gave verbal feedback on these topics is based on a clear and precise sample corresponding to the level of their thinking. The record-breaking heatwave of 2003 also had an impact on the vegetation in Switzerland. To examine its influences seven phenological late spring and summer phases were evaluated together with six phases in the autumn from a selection of stations. 30% of the 122 chosen phenological time series in late spring and summer phases set a new record (earliest arrival). The proportion of very early arrivals is very high and the mean deviation from the norm is between 10 and 20 days. The situation was less extreme in autumn, where 20% of the 103 time series chosen set a new record. The majority of the phenological arrivals were found in the class «normal» but the class«very early» is still well represented. The mean precocity lies between five and twenty days. As far as the leaf shedding of the beech is concerned, there was even a slight delay of around six days. The evaluation serves to show that the heatwave of 2003 strongly influenced the phenological events of summer and spring.
