Using food as a lens, this essay looks at what we can discover about Sydney's early settlement from a gastronomic perspective, and what Phillip's table reveals about life at Government House. With few explicit or descriptive references to meals at Government House or in Phillip's company, there are myriad clues in extant journals and information in primary sources about the food available to the colonists and the cross-cultural exchanges involving food between indigenous Australians and settlers.

This chapter introduces the Cross-Cultural Interaction Model (CCIM), which was designed to more clearly expose the processes that occur in the multicultural contexts of colonization, frontiers, and ancient borderlands. The model can visually represent simultaneous interactions by numerous participants and explores the various ways in which people interact and what motivates their participation in cultural exchanges. This chapter reviews the theoretical origins of the CCIM, describes how it works, and how it has changed since its inception. Second, the chapter briefly introduces each of the case studies in this volume which serve to showcase the versatility of the CCIM.

In recent years, as the cross-cultural exchanges between China and other countries have become more frequent, more and more English film and television works have flooded into the Chinese market, attracting the attention of many audiences. In order to enable Chinese audiences to better appreciate these film and television works, high-quality and high-level subtitle translation is indispensable. Since China started late in film and television sector, there are still many immature places in the research on subtitle translation. This article aims to analyze several classic English film and television works, summarize, and study the detailed factors that affect subtitle translation.

Under the influence of “Belt and Road”, the development of international economy and trading has improved drastically, which provided many help and support for domestic macroeconomic development under the new economic normal. Cross-cultural communication is a kind of customer service for different cultures. At this stage, under the cross-cultural exchange, the advantages of domestic and international economic and trade activities are constantly emerging. Plus, under the influence of the diplomatic thinking of seeking common ground while reserving differences, cross-cultural exchanges have greatly promoted the development of international economic trade. This paper will forecast and analyze the development trend of international economic trade under the cross-cultural exchange in the new era as well as put forward reasonable suggestions on how to improve international economic and trade development.

We examined the cross-cultural equivalence of a widely used instrument that assesses perceived parental rearing, the EMBU-C, among native Dutch and immigrant adolescents living in The Netherlands. The results of a multigroup confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the factor structure of the EMBU-C, consisting of three latent factors (Warmth, Rejection, and Overprotection), and reliabilities of these scales are similar in both samples. These findings lend further support for the factorial and construct validity of this instrument. The comparison of perceived child rearing between native Dutch and immigrant adolescents showed cultural differences in only one of the assessed dimensions: Immigrant adolescents perceive their parents as more overprotective than do Dutch adolescents.
