Cloud computing (Cloud) presents an opportunity to businesses for cost reduction in IT services, however, it also requires new skills to optimize the effective management and realization of the business benefits. The skills gap is described as a deficit because many previous management methods and strategies fail to adequately cover the new requirements and fully grasp the value opportunity.

Cloud computing is a relatively mature and robust technology that has promised its users with several proven advantages, such as cost reduction, immediate scalability, and resource sharing. The Cloud is built based on providing resources as services, such as providing Infrastructure, Platform, and Software as a Service. Such approach enables Cloud users to access these services based on their demand. In the government sector of Saudi Arabia, adoption and utilization of the Cloud is minimal. Despite being adopted officially, the Cloud has not been yet implemented properly. In our work we introduce how the government sector in Saudi Arabia can adopt and implement a Cloud Solution through utilizing its services and while considering issues related to its security.

Healthcare service costs are rising all over the world. That is mainly due to the lack of healthcare professionals and IT services.  Cloud computing is an emerging trend that provides a robust infrastructure that enables delivering low-cost services over the internet. In this paper, we conducted an analytical study on the e-health services in Palestine to investigate the current state-of-art and examine all challenges and opportunities to benefit from this technology. Collected data has been analyzed and the results revealed that there is a clear gap between the IT service models provided by Palestinian healthcare service provider, and the potential models based on latest IT trends; mainly, cloud computing.

Cloud computing aims to migrate IT services to distant data centers in order to reduce the dependency of the services on the limited local resources. Cloud computing provides access to distant computing resources via Web services while the end user is not aware of how the IT infrastructure is managed. Besides the novelties and advantages of cloud computing, deployment of a large number of servers and data centers introduces the challenge of high energy consumption. Additionally, transportation of IT services over the Internet backbone accumulates the energy consumption problem of the backbone infrastructure. In this chapter, the authors cover energy-efficient cloud computing studies in the data center involving various aspects such as: reduction of processing, storage, and data center network-related power consumption. They first provide a brief overview of the existing approaches on cool data centers that can be mainly grouped as studies on virtualization techniques, energy-efficient data center network design schemes, and studies that monitor the data center thermal activity by Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The authors also present solutions that aim to reduce energy consumption in data centers by considering the communications aspects over the backbone of large-scale cloud systems.

This chapter proposes a new Supply Chain Business Model in the Education domain and demonstrates how Education as a Service (EaaS) can be delivered. The implementation at the University of Greenwich (UoG) is used as a case study. Cloud computing business models are classified into eight Business Models; this classification is essential to the development of EaaS. A pair of the Hexagon Models are used to review Cloud projects against success criteria; one Hexagon Model focuses on Business Model and the other on IT Services. The UoG case study demonstrates the added value offered by Supply Chain software deployed by private Cloud, where an Oracle suite and SAP supply chain can demonstrate supply chain distribution and is useful for teaching. The evaluation shows that students feel more motivated and can understand their coursework better.

Over a decade ago, cloud computing became an important topic for small and large businesses alike. The new concept promises scalability, security, cost reduction, portability, and availability. While addressing this issue over the past several years, there have been intensive discussions about the importance of cloud computing technologies. Therefore, this paper reviews the transition from traditional computing to cloud computing and the benefit for businesses, cloud computing architecture, cloud computing services classification, and deployment models. Furthermore, this paper discusses the security policies and types of internal risks that a small business might encounter implementing cloud computing technologies. It addresses initiatives towards employing certain types of security policies in small businesses implementing cloud computing technologies to encourage small business to migrate to cloud computing by portraying what is needed to secure their infrastructure using traditional security policies without the complexity used in large corporations.

As the data is increasing day by day, there is a huge requirement for cloud applications that manage such a huge amount of data. Basically, a best solution for analyzing such amounts of data and handles a large dataset. Various companies are providing such framesets for particular applications. A cloud framework is the accruement of different components which is similar to the development tools, various middleware for particular applications and various other database management services that are needed for cloud computing deployment, development and managing the various applications of the cloud. This results in an effective model for scaling such a huge amount of data in dynamically allocated recourses along with solving their complex problems. In this era of technology, cloud computing technology has become essential part of the IT services used the daily life. In this regard, website hosting services are gradually moving to the cloud. This adds new valued feature to the cloud-based websites and at the same time introduces new threats for such services. DDoS attack is one such serious threat. Covariance matrix approach is used in this article to detect such attacks. The results were encouraging, according to confusion matrix and ROC descriptors.

Cloud Computing (CC) is revolutionizing the methodology by which IT services are being utilized. It is being introduced and marketed with many attractive promises that are enticing to many companies and managers, such as reduced capital costs and relief from managing complex information technology infrastructure. However, along with desirable benefits come risks and security concerns that must be considered and addressed correctly. Thus, security issues must be considered as a major issue when considering Cloud Computing. This paper discusses Cloud Computing and its related concepts; highlights and categorizes many of the security issues introduced by the “cloud”; surveys the risks, threats, and vulnerabilities; and makes the necessary recommendations that can help promote the benefits and mitigate the risks associated with Cloud Computing.

An important characteristic for efficient management of production systems is the ability of a product, component or material to be tracked. That is, to be assigned with a unique symbol, number, or other code (identifier) that can be traced back both within the production process and to the customer (e. g. when complaining about a defective part). Traceability leads to a cost reduction in eliminating the risks associated with the difficult identification of the material or parts, their handling in pre-production, the manufacturing process, or the storage and sale of finished products to customers. In case of problems, it makes it easier to implement the necessary measures and reduces the time to remedy the situation either within the company or even outside. Individual companies within the Czech Republic usually solve the identification and traceability independently. The paper deals with the results of the analysis of the current state of record keeping and identification of metallurgical materials in selected companies, and presents a proposal for improvement of the current situation in a specific company, especially in the field of work with remaining material.
