Modern journalism emerged in the XIX century based on truth and reality. The rise of Romanticism in that century proposed an approach against the Enlightenment and its pillars: objectivity, positivism and realism. Unlike it, Romanticism claimed subjectivity and the self as the more authentic reality. Thus, it took beauty out of the base of aesthetics and put in its place communication and expression. With the arrival of Postmodernism, the notions of reality and truth have been in crisis too and so it proposes a moral and epistemological relativism. This view has been a permanent attack on journalism. This paper vindicates reality and truth, and so journalism as one of the main institutions based on those concepts, besides science. Therefore, journalism can be seen as the most necessary and genuine aesthetic in the current digital era because it takes and melts objectivity and realism from Illustration, communication and subjectivity from Romanticism, and impact from Postmodernism. In current network societies, journalism has rehabilitated a new narrative and is increasingly more based on stories than on news. That is creating a genuine literature of reality, which gathers both the ethic and the aesthetic project of the Enlightenment, Romanticism and Postmodernism.

Constructing the self in the literary work of Franciszek Karpiński against the background of the Enlightenment and its tendenciesThe presented paper provides analysis of the notion ‘autobiographism’ contextualised in the literary output of the Polish poet of the enlightenment, Franciszek Karpiński. The question of autobiographism is presented in terms of the literature and philosophy of Jean Jacques Rousseau. This analysis of the phenomena of authenticity and autobiographicality is concerned with constructing oneself in literature as illustrated by certain works, with the primacy of the mundane The History Of My Age And People With Whom I Lived. The essay draws on The Confessions by Rousseau with a view to specifying the connections between these two novels. The consciousness of the impact Rousseau had on the European sense of literature breaks new ground in the interpretation of the legacy of Karpiński. It also enables the recognition of the complete and compact project situated on the verge of literature and philosophy. The breakthrough of this project is contained in the priority given to the Polish historical literary process and the novelty of the autobiographical attitude, which is considered through the application of basic conceptions concerning autobiographism and the modern identity project of the aesthetic human. Konstruowanie „ja” w twórczości Franciszka Karpińskiego na tle epoki i jej tendencjiSzkic poświęcony jest zagadnieniu autobiografizmu w twórczości Franciszka Karpińskiego ujmowanemu pod kątem jego związków z twórczością i filozofią Jana Jakuba Rousseau. Analiza zjawisk autentyczności i autobiograficzności dotyka kwestii konstruowania siebie w literaturze na przykładzie konkretnych utworów, z których najważniejszym jest przełomowa dla historii polskiej literatury powieść Karpińskiego Historia mego wieku i ludzi z którymi żyłem. Przedmiotem analizy są m.in. jej związki z Wyznaniami Rousseau. Świadomość wpływu Rousseau na europejskie pojmowanie literatury otwiera nowe perspektywy interpretacyjne twórczości Karpińskiego. Pozwala także dostrzec w jego pisarstwie elementy kompletnego, spójnego projektu sytuującego się na granicy literatury i filozofii. Jego przełomowość polega na pierwszeństwie w polskim procesie historycznoliterackim oraz nowatorstwie postawy autobiograficznej, którą rozpatruję w odniesieniu do podstawowych koncepcji dotyczących autobiografizmu, a także nowoczesnego projektu tożsamościowego człowieka estetycznego.

Buildings preservation by the conversion of their function has become a domain of interest in the field of industrial heritage. Due to the need to expand existing housing capacities in urban areas, a large number of industrial buildings are nowadays converted into multi-family and single-family housing. The paper deals with the analysis of the functional and aesthetic internal transformation of industrial into housing spaces. The research goal is to determine the principles of conceptualization of housing functional plan within the framework of the original physical structure of the industrial building, at the architectonic composition level and housing unit (dwelling) level. Besides, the paper aims to check the existence of common patterns of the aesthetic transformation of converted spaces, examined through three epochs of the development of industrial architecture: the second half of the XIX century, the first half of the XX century and the post-WWII period.

This concluding chapter charts the continuing significance of the early postwar moment in Olson’s later work, particularly The Maximus Poems. The philosophical and political concerns of the American avant-garde between 1946 and 1951 play out across The Maximus Poems just as they inform later American art practices. The search of the early postwar American independent left for a source of political action rooted in the embodied individual is seen, on the one hand, to have been personified in the figure of Maximus. At the same time, Maximus’s radical ‘practice of the self’ charts a sophisticated alternative to the Enlightenment humanist subject widely critiqued in the United States in the immediate postwar period.

In the past two decades, we have learned a great deal about self-assembly of dendritic metal oxide structures, partially inspired by the nanostructures mimicking the aesthetic hierarchical structures of ferns and corals. The self-assembly process involves either anisotropic polycondensation or molecular recognition mechanisms. The major driving force for research in this field is due to the wide variety of applications in addition to the unique structures and properties of these dendritic nanostructures. Our purpose of this minireview is twofold: (1) to showcase what we have learned so far about how the self-assembly process occurs; and (2) to encourage people to use this type of material for drug delivery, renewable energy conversion and storage, biomaterials, and electronic noses.

The combination of melodramatic and art cinematic techniques and influences in AMC’s television series Mad Men (2007¬–) reveals how a melodramatic televisuality can image novel modes of social and intimate relations and an alternative to the archetypal American narrative of the self-made man. Set in 1960s’ America, the series uses a contemporaneous and cosmopolitan California to triangulate the formal and narrative insistence of the past on the present. This triangulation is played out by Don Draper’s relations with his family, women, and his former identities and by the representation of homosexuality throughout the series. The application of Lee Edelman’s concept of “sinthomosexuality” and Richard Rorty’s “liberal ironist” reveal a queer, visual rhetoric to the show’s narrative and formal structures, forming a queer irony that allows the show to straddle the aesthetic extremes of “quality TV” (Jane Feuer) and soap opera, which, in turn, queers the exemplary American heterosexuality of Don Draper.

But the theory is inadequate as it stands, as the appendix to the Treatise makes clear. For this account of the self, apparently, rests on contradictory principles — propositions, fortunately, that can be reconciled, according to Hume. My paper is a critical exploration of Hume’s argument for this intriguing suggestion.

Humans are social beings who need other individuals to group. In interacting with others, individuals will convey information and usually begin with an introduction relates to self disclosure, which is the type of individual communication disclosing information about himself is commonly concealed. Social media is a medium on the Internet that allows users to represent themselves, share, communicate with others and create virtual social ties. This research was intended to examine Instagram and Self Disclosure in an interpersonal communication perspective on the Santo Kristoforus II high school students to find out the activities of students on Instagram social media. Research based on Self-Disclosure theory, communication theory in the Digital Era, social media, and Instagram. Research uses a qualitative approach with case study methods. The results is that the self disclosure conducted by the informant is about daily activities, and the self disclosure is on Instagram involving several Self-Disclosure processes. In the process of Self-Disclosure, informants usually provide personal information such as feelings, thoughts and experiences, and they are also careful enough in uploading information to social mediaManusia disebut makhluk yang memerlukan seseorang untuk saling berhubungan timbal balik. Dalam berinteraksi dengan orang lain, individu akan menyampaikan berbagai informasi dan biasanya diawali dengan perkenalan mengenai dirinya, hal tersebut berkaitan dengan self disclosure, yakni jenis komunikasi individu mengungkapkan informasi tentang dirinya sendiri yang biasa disembunyikan. Media sosial saat ini digunakan penggunanya untuk berkomunikasi, membentuk relasi dengan orang lain secara virtual. Sehingga penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk meneliti Instagram dan Self Disclosure dalam Perspektif Komunikasi Antarpribadi terhadap Siswa-Siswi SMA Santo Kristoforus II untuk mengetahui aktivitas siswa-siswi di media sosial Instagram. Penelitian berlandaskan teori Self-Disclosure, Teori Komunikasi di Era Digital, Media Sosial, dan Instagram. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengungkapan diri yang dilakukan oleh informan berisi tentang aktivitas sehari-hari yang dilakukan, dan pengungkapan diri tersebut dilakukan dalam media sosial Instagram yang melibatkan beberapa proses pengungkapan diri. Dalam proses pengungkapan diri, informan biasanya memberikan informasi pribadi seperti perasaan, pikiran dan pengalaman. Dengan banyaknya informasi yang diberikan, tidak menutup kemungkinan mereka juga cukup berhati-hati dalam mengunggah informasi ke media sosial

This paper aims to critically introduce the applicability of Foucault’s late work, on the practices of the self, to the scholarship of contemporary computer games. I argue that the gameplay tasks that we set ourselves, and the patterns of action that they produce, can be understood as a form of ‘work on the self’, and that this work is ambivalent between, on the one hand, an aesthetic transformation of the self – as articulated by Foucault in relation to the care or practices of the self – in which we break from the dominant subjectivities imposed upon us, and on the other, a closer tethering of ourselves through our own playful impulses, to a neoliberal subjectivity centred around instrumentally-driven selfimprovement. Game studies’ concern with the effects that computer games have on us stands to gain from an examination of Foucault’s late work for the purposes of analysing and disambiguating between the nature of the transformations at stake. Further, Foucault’s tripartite analysis of ‘power-knowledge-subject’, which might be applied here as ‘game-discourse-player’, foregrounds the imbrication of our gameplay practices – the extent to which they are due to us and the way in which our own volitions make us subject to power, which is particularly pertinent in the domain of play.
