This article presents the characterization of the phytocoenoses dominated by Amygdalus nana that occur in the cliff area of the Dniester river basin, Republic of Moldova, which have been grouped in a new sub-association – vincetosum hederaceae Pînzaru subass. nova, in the association Prunetum tenellae Soó 1951. This sub-association includes xerophilous, thermophilic, western-Pontic phytocoenoses, occurring on sandy clays or on rendzina soils, on the limestone hills of the Dniester river basin, at altitudes of 60-150 m. The fl oristic composition of these phytocoenoses is dominated by the Eurasian elements (50%), followed by the European (10%), the Pontic-Mediterranean (9,6%) and the Central European elements (5,2%). The subassociation Prunetum tenellae Soó 1951 vincetosum herbaceae Pînzaru is of high value in terms of biodiversity conservation and deserves to be included in the List of Protected Plant Associations of the Republic of Moldova

<p>The EU-funded program European Water Initiative Plus for Eastern Partnership Countries (EUWI+), which is the biggest commitment of the EU to the water sector in the EaP countries, helps Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine to bring their legislation closer to EU policy in the field of water management, as identified by the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD), with a main focus on the management of transboundary river basins. It supports the development and implementation of pilot river basin management plans, building on the improved policy framework and ensuring a strong participation of local stakeholders.</p><p>Project funding is provided by the European Commission (DG NEAR), the EU support program for improved cooperation in the eastern EU neighborhood region and the EU Water Initiative Plus (EUWI+). On a national level, financial support comes from the Austrian Development Agency, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism as well as from the French Office International de l’Eau. Up to 2020, management plans for selected river basins and transboundary rivers will be implemented under the leadership of a European project consortium headed by the Environment Agency Austria.</p><p>In the Republic of Moldova the River Basin Management Plan for the Moldovan part of the Danube-Prut and Black Sea River Basin District was elaborated by the Institute of Ecology and Geography in accordance with the WFD and the Water Law of the Republic of Moldova no. 272 of 23.11.2011. This management plan needed a review and update for approval and its implementation into practice.</p><p>The presented study comprises a review and an update of the existing delineation and characterization of groundwater bodies (GWBs) in the Danube-Prut and Black Sea River Basin (DPBSRB) of the Republic of Moldova as well as a review of the current groundwater monitoring design. The GWBs are the management units under the WFD and all further implementation steps (risk and status assessment, programs of measures)which regard to groundwater are linked to these GWBs.</p><p>Extensive information, e.g. on the geological structure, the hydrogeological conditions, lithology, flow directions and the human pressures on the aquifers in the DPBSRB, has been collected, generalized and analyzed. Within the area of the DPBSRB in total eleven GWBs were identified, covering all aquifers which are relevant for all current and future legitimate uses and functions and relevant for groundwater associated or dependent aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.</p><p>The groundwater monitoring design both for quantity and quality was reviewed including the monitoring network, frequency, parameters, use of monitoring data, responsibilities and data management. Based on that results, concrete improvements of the monitoring network within the EUWI+ project are planned.</p>

AbstractThe genetic diversity study of 39 broomrape populations from the Republic of Moldova was performed using 12 highly polymorphic SSR primer pairs, which shown the high level of polymorphism (average PIC value 0.57). We found that some of the SSR primers (Ocum-59 and Ocum-108) produced polymorphic bands suitable for discrimination between the studied populations. The diversity analysis within broomrape populations revealed a higher number of detected alleles and heterozygous loci in the accessions from the Southern region when compared to the Northern and Central ones. The average PIC values for the Northern, Central and Southern accessions ranged from 0.43, 0.48 to 0.56, respectively. Some populations from the Southern region (especially, Carabetovca, Alexanderfeld, Stefan-Voda and Slobozia Mare) have shown the major differences in the profiles obtained and presented the high level of genetic variability. Abstract The ecological preferences and bioacoustics of bush-crickets, crickets and grasshoppers species were studied in middle and lower Prut River basin, a research conducted in 55 localities from Romania and 33 localities in the Republic of Moldova. A total number of 91 species of Orthoptera were collected in the study area: 85 species encountered on the western side of Prut River basin (9 Phaneropteridae, 24 Tettigoniidae, 1 Bradyporidae, 5 Gryllidae, 1 Gryllotalpidae, 1 Tridactylidae, 5 Tetrigidae, 39 Acrididae) and 76 species found on the eastern side (7 Phaneropteridae, 19 Tettigoniidae, 1 Bradyporidae, 5 Gryllidae, 1 Gryllotalpidae, 1 Tridactylidae, 3 Tetrigidae, 39 Acrididae). Four species are recorded for the first time in the Orthoptera fauna of the Republic of Moldova: Barbitistes constrictus (Fabricius), Poecilimon fussii Brunner von Wattenwyl, Metrioptera roeselii fedtschenkoi (Saussure) and Pholidoptera frivaldskyi (Herman).

Introduction. Today there are significant problems of  transboundary pollution of the Dniester River basin in Ukraine, including within the Vinnitska oblast. Purpose. The aim is to assess the current state of the watercourses of the Dniester River basin in transboundary areas with the Republic of Moldova, within the Vinnytska oblast by 2013. Methods. Evaluation of current watercourses quality in Dnister basin was performed based on the Methodology of environmental assessment of watercourses quality for the relevant category and on the Methods integrated assessment of groundwater contamination. Results. The results of water quality evaluation of the river Dniester basin in cross-border areas are assigned to them "satisfactory" and "bad" (the average and maximum environmental indices) features state and "dirty" and "dirty" qualifications purity by the Method of environmental assessment of watercourses quality in the relevant categories. By the Method of integral estimation of water courses contamination within the basin of river Dnister in Vinnytska oblast contamination status changed from "harmless" to "intensive". This shows a significant contamination of the river Dniester water basin. Conclusion. In order to improve the ecological state of the river basin it is necessary to conduct comprehensive monitoring of rivers, set GDS the priority given indicators of water quality, improve the culture of land and water use in watersheds. Priority execution of these measures should be in parts of the basin, characterized by the worst quality. Improvement of the situation with river Dnister basin in the cross-border region with Republic of Moldova should only be done on the state level with help of Euroregion "Dniester" initiative.

Abstract The summer of 2015 in the Republic of Moldova was dry, with significant negative consequences for agriculture. The analysis of drought conditions was conducted through soil moisture reserves (first 100 cm), monthly amounts of precipitation, monthly average temperatures, hydrothermal coefficient Seleaninov, etc. In conclusion, it is stated that the territory of the Republic of Moldova is not an exception to global climate change and every year the drought affects intensively the agriculture of the republic, and there were proposed solutions to adapt to the new climate conditions.

Abstract The purpose of this research consists in the elucidation of spatial and economic aspects of the water use in the Prut river basin. The main topics presented in this paper are: 1) the dynamics of water use; 2) spatial and branch profile of water use and its dynamics: 3) existing problems in the evaluation and monitoring of water use; 5) efficiency of the implementation of economic instruments of water management. To achieve these objectives were used traditional methods of geographical and economic research. Also, the content of the present study is focused on the methodology to elaborate the management plans of hydrographical basins and their chapters on the status of water resources and water bodies and on economic analysis of water use in the Prut river basin.

The studies were performed in 2017- 2021 in various types of ecosystems from the area Cricova-Goian of Ichel river basin. 45 species of mammals were registered: one hedgehog species, 5 species of Soricomorpha, 12 bat species, 18 rodent species, one hare species, 6 carnivorous species and 2 artiodactyl species. The multiannual dynamics of bat communities in Cricova and Goianul Noi stone mines was assessed. The rodent species were the most numerous and spread in the ecosystems of the studied area. 14 species are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova.
