Introduction. The large-scale use of auctions today in various fields, while avoiding distortions in the behavior of economic agents is considered by scientists as one of the effective tools to improve public welfare. Research conducted by Nobel Laureates in Economics 2020 Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson has made it possible to rethink the possibilities of reformatting auctions to ensure the maximum benefit from their holding for all subjects. P. Milgrom and R. Wilson demonstrated how the technically complex«constructions» of economics to build optimal auction designs make it possible to obtain complete material benefits for society.Prupose.To substantiate the specifics of auction theory, the formats of the latter and the contribution to their development of P. Milgrom and R. Wilson - winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2020.Methods. During the preparation of the article general scientific research methods were used: analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, as well as the method of formalization, which greatly contributed to the possibility of identifying the specifics of auction theory, their formats and substantiation of scientific achievements of Nobel Laureates in Economics P. Milgrom and R. Wilson in the development of theory and practice of auctions.Results. Research by P. Milgrom and R. Wilson, awarded the Nobel Prize «for improvements to auction theory and inventions of new auction formats»), prove that auction theory is an effective tool for regulators and governments of different countries that are interested in finding ways to most effectively use certain assets. Unlike most economic models, which usually require simplification and abstraction, the conclusions of scientists in auction theory can be applied in a specific practical area - from trade in raw materials and securities - to public procurement, tenders, subsoil and radio frequency, online advertising, etc. While previous researchers, including W. Vickrey and R. Myerson, devoted their work to private value auctions (when for each buyer the value of the object is known only to him and does not depend on the opinion of other auction participants), R. Wilson in the late 1960s, focused on the analysis of auctions with common value (when the object is of equal value to all auction participants, but each of them may have its own unique information about it). In particular, at auctions for the right to produce oil in a certain area, its value for all bidders is the same, but information on the field reserves and the specifics of the area may be different. R. Wilson also argued what should be the behavior of a rational bidder to avoid the so-called «winner’s curse» (a situation in which the winner of the object will pre- set an excessively high price, if guided solely by their own assessment of profits). Radio frequency auctions in the United States are the largest and best-known example of the practical application of the findings of R. Wilson and P. Milgrom, which made the previously inefficient and virtually free distribution of licenses a way to win for sellers and buyers and society as a whole.Discussion. Auction theory will continue to develop in the future, taking into account the new challenges posed, in particular, the need to develop tools and mechanisms for conducting virtual auctions in order to adequately adapt to digital reality. The need to develop a «road map» to address the shortcomings inherent in the existing auction formats in terms of taking into account the accelerated development of technology, increasing mobility, globalization and digitalization of the economy.

The article outlines the ways of development of Ukrainian pharmaceutical industry in the 20-60s of the twentieth century, the emergence of new forms of medical care, and management structures for the organization of pharmacy in the country. A historical-retrospective analysis of the prerequisites for training specialists for the pharmaceutical sector in Ukraine in one of the main periods of its formation highlights the patterns of development in the general context of professional medical education and clarifies the circumstances of the leading features of organizational culture in pharmacy. It is proved that in previous historical periods of the industry development the prerequisites for the emergence of the organizational and managerial culture of pharmacists were: structuring the pharmacy, its concentration in the hands of the state, expanding the medical industry, and improving medical care, solving scientific and practical issues of pharmaceutical education organization of quality control of pharmacy products, expansion of the pharmaceutical industry and centralization of supply in the pharmacy network. The scientific achievements of prominent figures of pharmacy in this period (M. Bergolts, N. Valyashko, A. Ginzberg, G. Kogan, V. Dzvoniv, A. Orekhov, A. Stepanov, J. Fialkov, S. Shubin, D. Shcherbachov, and others) who have made significant contributions to the development of pharmaceutical science, construction and improvement of pharmaceutical education, namely: the creation of the first textbooks on pharmacy, the technology of dosage forms, the establishment of a school for the study of organic matter by spectrographic research, development and implementation of dosage technology and galenic preparations, research of medicinal plants, a skillful combination of experiment with scientific research, etc. It promoted scientific development of questions of the theory and practice of pharmacy, advanced training of members of society, expansion and deepening of their specific knowledge, and also education on the best traditions of domestic pharmacy, medicine, and natural sciences, providing scientific and methodological and practical assistance to employees and managers of pharmacy chains.

Auction theory is the core of modern economic theory, and standard auctions are the basic elements of many models in microeconomics, public economics, and finance. Theoretical studies of auctions have shaped the modern understanding of the economic role of information in competitive market, and of price theory. Applied analysis of auctions has underpinned important practical mechanisms — for example, mechanisms of privatization and re-privatization of electromagnetic spectrum and public procurement. The 2020 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded to Robert Wilson and Paul Milgrom both for their contributions to the foundations of auction theory and for the development of largescale practical applications.

This chapter highlights some of the conceptual and theoretical implications of the arguments that have been made in this book. This chapter argues that the traditional theorization of escalation dynamics in South Asia does not expect the possibility of: i) autonomous military factors triggering severe ceasefire violations (CFVs); ii) CFVs triggering escalation, and; iii) accidental/inadvertent escalation to some extent. The absence of such expectations further cements the strongly held belief that escalation is controllable especially due to the existence of a general context of nuclear deterrence-induced stability. The chapter, besides highlighting the theoretical finding of the book, also discusses various measures that can be taken to control CFVs and India–Pakistan crisis escalation.

Since the post-war reorganization of education that began in 1949, the purpose and nature of German theatre training has perpetuated a division between performance and technical training, provided by vocational schools (or Hochschulen), while university programmes offer degrees in Theatre Science (Theaterwissenschaft), theory, or other academic areas. The course of studies at Justus Leibig Universität Giessen is one of the first to break away from this established model, offering a hybrid programme combining the study of theory and practice. Having featured a number of international guest artists as teachers, including Robert Wilson, Heiner Müller, John Jessurun, and Heiner Goebbels, the programme continues to be a centre of innovation in the changing landscape of German theatre education. Steve Earnest is an Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at California State University, San Bernardino. His published work includes The State Acting Academy of East Berlin (Mellen Press, 1999), and articles in Performer Training (Harwood Publishers, 2001), Theatre Journal, Western European Stages, and The Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism. He is also active in southern California professional theatre.

Studying the research results by Nobel prize-winning economists is a fundamentally important task for determining the most promising areas of development of Russian economic science. The author traces the connections between all these works and their predecessors’ work, many of whom were also awarded the Nobel prize in economics. Three lines of development of the predecessors’ achievements are identifid: information asymmetry, limited rationality, the design of market mechanism and new institutionalism. The article does not address the problems of auction theory related to its formal justifiation, which is part of mathematical economics and game theory. However, it is noted that this is an essential part of the laureates’ achievements. The article’s main conclusions are that the prize received for “improving the theory of auctions” fis into the broader economic research context. The winners solved the problems of maintaining free competition and reducing the market’s likelihood of monopolization. The author pays special attention to the results of the empirical analysis of actually implemented auctions. This analysis is divided into three parts, corresponding to the three stages of each auction: starting problems (distrust, the reputation of participants, etc.), the course of the auction (behaviour of participants and results, in particular, the “winner’s curse”.

This chapter describes the second major school of market design, that primarily associated with the Harsanyi doctrine and game theorists such as William Vickrey and Robert Wilson. In the Bayes-Nash school, they claimed to solve certain perceived problems with target auction formats, such as that of the “winner’s curse,” which this chapter explores. Unlike the other schools, they claimed to taxonomize various auction forms according to their informational properties.

AbstractThe communication analysis presented in the article compares the semiotic coding of visual perception in cultural theory and practice. The USA is used as an example of Western Culturology (egocentric, isometric) compared to the PRC as an example of Eastern Culturology (sociocentric, axonometric). Perception is explicated within the general context of Discourse Expression (rhetoric, aesthetics) and illustrated using examples from the visual arts, notably painting, a television image, and flower arrangement. Because contemporary popular media image production emerged from Japan, Chinese and Japanese art examples are also considered. The primary purpose of the general analysis is pedagogical, to teach semiotic phenomenological methodology in communicological and culturological research.
