AbstractObjetivesIn this case report, the role of the laboratory in the diagnosis process of the patient was treated with methotrexate (Mtx) who was diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy by endometrial biopsy as a result of the exclusion of the possibility of phantom HCG following the patient with βHCG values was discussed.Case presentationOur 25-year-old female patient admitted to our hospital obstetrics and gynecology outpatient clinic with irregular menstruation was evaluated with a pre-diagnosis of pregnancy. The hCG level was examined and ultrasonographically evaluated by the clinician. In the initial evaluation of the 25-year-old patient, the HCG concentration of 47 mIU/mL was determined.ConclusionLaboratory specialists should be aware of potential problems in hCG measurement. Clinicians and laboratory specialists should always be on consultation to solve clinical problems.

Background: Perfectionism has been linked to suicide. According to the Narrative-Crisis Model of suicide, individuals with trait vulnerabilities are prone to develop a certain mindset, known as a Suicidal Narrative, which may precipitate the Suicide Crisis Syndrome (SCS), culminating in suicide. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between perfectionism (trait vulnerability), fear of humiliation (component of the Suicidal Narrative), SCS, and prospective near-term suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STB). Methods: Adult psychiatric outpatient participants (N = 336) were assessed at baseline with the Suicidal Narrative Inventory for perfectionism and fear of humiliation. The questions used to assess perfectionism were adapted from the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. The severity of the SCS was calculated using the Suicide Crisis Inventory. STB were assessed at baseline and after one month using the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale. Serial mediation analyses were conducted using PROCESS version 3.3 in SPSS. Results: While the direct effect of perfectionism on prospective STB was not significant (b = 0.01, p = 0.19), the indirect effect of perfectionism on STB, through serial mediation by fear of humiliation and the SCS, was significant (indirect effect p = 0.007, 95% CI [0.003, 0.013]). The indirect effect was not significant for models that did not include both mediators. Limitations: Variables were assessed at one time only. Conclusion: Perfectionism did not directly modulate STB. Perfectionism may be related to suicidal behavior through fear of humiliation, leading to the SCS. These results support the Narrative-Crisis Model of suicide and clarify the role of perfectionism in the etiology of suicide.

The purpose of this case report is to evaluate the role of mini-implants hybrid expanders in the orthodontic treatment of narrow maxilla. A female patient with a skeletal asymmetry and unilateral posterior crossbitepresented for orthodontic treatment. Digital records were sent to the orthodontic laboratory. The orthodontic lab made the mini-implants hybrid expanders and a 3D surgical guide for an accurate insertion of the mini-implants. After two months, a successful expansion of the maxilla was obtained. Orthodontic mini-implants hybrid expanders could eliminate surgical treatemnt in many narrow maxilla cases.

This article presents a case of a 14-year-old female twin with schizophrenia who developed severe catatonia following treatment with olanzapine. Under a combined treatment with amantadine, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and (currently) ziprasidone alone she improved markedly. Severity and course of catatonia including treatment response were evaluated with the Bush-Francis Catatonia Rating Scale (BFCRS). This case report emphasizes the benefit of ECT in the treatment of catatonic symptoms in an adolescent patient with schizophrenic illness.
