In developing countries, road maintenance is a major problem. The country's economy relies significantly on public transit. Driving a vehicle on a badly maintained road is very dangerous. Rain causes the road's oil-spill quality to degrade. Car accidents may occur as a result of such obstacles. To solve this problem, we have developed a project that we believe would be of the most use to the public. The project's main aim is to automatically detect and report potholes. This article discusses a cost-effective method for detecting potholes and speed bumps on roadways, as well as giving timely warnings to drivers to assist them avoid accidents or vehicle damage. Potholes and humps are detected using ultrasonic sensors, which may also be utilised to assess their depth and height. A global positioning system receiver is used in the proposed system to record the geographic locations of potholes and speed bumps. Some of the discovered data in the database include pothole depth, hump height, and geographic location. This is a valuable resource for both government officials and motorists. As an alert, flash messages with an audible buzzer are used.

During the course of its development for military use and more recent extension to many civilian uses, vulnerabilities of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) – in the United States the Global Positioning System (GPS) – have become apparent. The vulnerabilities arise from natural, intentional, and unintentional sources. Increasing civilian and military reliance on GNSS brings with it a vital need to identify the critical vulnerabilities to civilian users, and to develop a plan to mitigate these vulnerabilities. This paper summarizes the findings of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) vulnerability study that addresses these issues. The key findings are that satellite navigation users are vulnerable to several classes of disruption that affect all transportation modes and related infrastructure; but also that the vulnerabilities can be mitigated by awareness, planning, and using independent backup systems and/or alternate procedures in safety-critical applications. To gain the full benefits of GNSS, it will be necessary to analyse safety-of-life vulnerabilities in detail, and to determine the means and costs of reducing these risks to acceptable levels. The complete assessment report, of which this paper is a synopsis, was released to the public on September 10, 2001. Although the basic findings apply to all GNSS, the assessment focused on the GPS, in response to the enabling Presidential Decision Directive.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is rapidly becoming an important tool in the surveying community. It is currently being used in a number of applications, ranging from cadastral control point establishment to hydrographic surveying. The emphasis of this paper is on the contribution of GPS to the information society. Fundamental aspects of GPS are presented and the current status of the system is outlined. The advantages of using GPS in the collection of georeferenced data and specifically its impact on Geographic Information Systems are described. Issues such as the establishment of an Active Control System, the development of new surveying techniques and the integration of GPS with other sensors for cost-effective data gathering are addressed. The future role of GPS in the collection of georeferenced information and a discussion of new and exciting opportunities for surveyors being created by GPS, concludes the paper.

Private and public transportations are use as common mobility of people, making it important to know where traffic congestions, car accidents and other related vehicular activities that may ruin your way to office works or to your destinations be avoided. Philippines is known to be one of the most traffic congested in the world due to uncontrollable volumes of cars running in major streets every day. In this paper, a proposed wireless device that can be attached to a vehicle was developed to track the route using global positioning system, perform geo fencing and perform controlling mechanism to help the driver locates a shortest path, avoid traffic jams, and do messaging and traffic advisories based on contacts and information stored in the software utilities. Based on initial testing, the software is capable of recording and reading vehicle logs, activating GPS route, reading accelerometer log, and reading compass log as bases of controlling mechanism while the device is activated, WiDrive. Result shows that WiDrive is reliable as it successfully mapped to the GPS, and passed the crash accelerometer test at different distance. If given a chance to improve and implement in a wide scale testing, an exponential benefits can be achieved.

Geographic information system is a geospatial information system development of diverse data sources and heterogeneous includes news, events, routes and tourist attractions. The system provides information about the geographic location with integrated global positioning system (GPS). GPS is a system to determine the location on the earth's surface with the aid of the alignment of the satellite signal. GPS coordinates deci-sive point will be more complete if coupled with the use dijkstra algorithm to determine the shortest path to get to the tourist sites. Many tourist sites and have a short distance away from tourist spots and the other one is a problem because these sights are not known by the tourists who recently visited. In a case like this is necessary to travel guides which can provide information about the location - nearby tourist sites and pathways that can be bypassed by tourists. A cross between GPS and dijktra algorithms can be developed into a geographic information system based on Android that is interesting and informative in the field of tourism as a guide for tourists.

In recent years there has been an increase in community-based monitoring programmes developed and implemented worldwide. This paper describes how the data collected from such a programme could be integrated into a Geographic Information System (GIS) to create temperate subtidal marine habitat maps. A differential Global Positioning System was utilized to accurately record the location of the trained community-based SCUBA diver data. These georeferenced data sets were then used to classify benthic habitats using an aerial photograph and digitizing techniques. This study demonstrated that trained community-based volunteers can collect data that can be utilized within a GIS to create reliable and cost-effective maps of shallow temperate subtidal rocky reef systems.

This paper examines the distribution of hospitality services in Uyo Urban, Nigeria. GIS method was the primary tool used for data collection. A global positioning system (GPS) Garmin 60 model was used in tracking the location of 102 hospitality services in the study area. One hypothesis was stated and tested using the nearest neighbour analysis. The finding shows evidence of clustering of the various hospitality services. The tested hypothesis further indicated that hospitality services clustered in areas that guarantee a sustainable level of patronage to maximize profit. Thus, the hospitality services clustered in selected streets in the metropolis while limited numbers were found outside the city’s central area.
