Background: Future clinical challenges in nursing care of geriatric patients require educational courses that provide a high level of clinical reasoning skills. Serious Soap (www.serioussoap.nl/eng) is a video-based educational tool that combines entertainment with learning and reflection; it can serve as an attractive e-learning tool for nurses, nursing students, and tutors in geriatric care.Objective: This article describes Serious Soap’s development process, the lessons learned, and the most beneficial factors for student-centredness and teacher-centredness.Conclusions: The lessons learned from the development process highlight that it is important to use the experiences from previous gamification projects, co-create with target users, conduct elaborate testing and research before launching the final version, and ensure sustainability. The most valuable features for student-centeredness were the use of humor, authentic critical situations, popular actors, and interactivity. The most favorable aspects for teacher-centeredness were free accessibility of the tool, evidence-based content, and the possibility of using different features of the tool in various manners.

Abstract This paper reflects on a case study of a user-centred concept development process for a Machine Learning (ML) based design tool, conducted at an industry partner. The resulting concept uses ML to match graphical user interface elements in sketches on paper to their digital counterparts to create consistent wireframes. A user study (N=20) with a working prototype shows that this concept is preferred by designers, compared to the previous manual procedure. Reflecting on our process and findings we discuss lessons learned for developing ML tools that respect practitioners’ needs and practices.

Abstract Aim: To report the experience of applying different teaching strategies on undergraduate nursing students caring for burn victims. Method: Experience report on the topic, "Nursing care for the patient with burns", for undergraduate nursing student education. Results: Teaching strategies during this course involved theoretical lecture, discussion of clinical cases, use of a virtual environment, and practice in a simulated environment. The students reported satisfaction with the tools used. Conclusion: It is important to incorporate different active teaching strategies, such as clinical simulation practices, e-learning, classes incorporating dialogue, case studies, and others, for undergraduate nursing education on caring for the burn victim.

e-Learning and other innovative open learning multimedia modalities of delivering education are being introduced to enhance learning opportunities and facilitate student access to and success in education. This article reports on a study that assessed students' readiness to make the shift from traditional learning to the technological culture of e-Learning at a university in Durban. A quasi-experimental study design was employed to assess such readiness in first year nursing students before and after an appropriate educational intervention. A modified Chapnick Readiness Score was used to measure their psychological, equipment and technological readiness for the change in learning method. It was found that, while students' psychological readiness for e-Learning was high, they lacked technological and equipment readiness. Although e-Learning could be used in nursing education, technological and equipment readiness require attention before it can be implemented effectively in this institution. Fortunately, these technical aspects are easier to resolve than improving psychological readiness.

Abstract Background Higher education is responsible for providing education that meets international benchmarks relevant to the needs of the international community. Due to the increase of digital tools in higher education, the possibility of sharing learning resources across nations has expanded. In the current project, a Norwegian university invited universities in Spain and the United Kingdom to adapt and translate e-learning resources originally developed for Norwegian nursing students for use within their respective Bachelor in Nursing programmes. Aim The aim of the current study was to gain insights into the usability and value for learning of e-compendiums shared and implemented across three European universities. Methods The study adopted a descriptive cross-sectional design and included nursing students from the University of Nottingham, Valencia Catholic University, and the University of Stavanger. Data were collected in Autumn 2017 through a questionnaire adapted from the validated “Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Reusable Learning Object evaluation questionnaire” The questionnaire consisted of 19 items that included two aspects: e-compendiums’ value for learning and e-compendiums’ usability. The different study sites were compared using a binary logistic regression analysis. Subgroups of students were compared based on their gender and age. Results A total of 480 nursing students participated in the study. The e -compendiums were overall positively rated, especially for reinforcing and retaining knowledge. Compared to the students from the University of Stavanger, students from Valencia Catholic University rated the e-compendiums more positively in most aspects of learning. Students from University of Nottingham found the e-compendiums to be more important for learning engagement compared to students at the Norwegian study site, and no differences were found in any other aspects of learning. Younger students rated the interactivity and visual components as more important compared to older students. Conclusions Students from the University of Nottingham and Valencia Catholic University seem to accept the e-compendiums despite the fact that they were originally developed for use in another country. We argue that, when sharing e-learning resources across countries, an adaptation and translation process that includes a multicultural and multidisciplinary perspective should be carried out.

Technological innovations such as e-learning are rapidly transforming the ways that institutions of higher education teach and students learn. In nursing education, e-learning offers opportunities to reach a great number of students, irrespective of time and space. In the context of Rwanda, the implementation of e-learning in nursing education was motivated by the country’s need to upgrade the level of working nurses and midwives at a large scale and in a short period. This study aims at exploring the conceptualization of e-learning in nursing education, in the context of Rwanda. Grounded theory paradigm directed this study based on the Framework from Straus and Corbin (2008). The sample size was comprised of 40 participants: 18 nurse educators, 17 nursing students, two ICT managers, and three experts in the fields. The results indicated that e-learning was conceptualised as (a) a mechanism to advance a political agenda; (b) a tool to open access to education for working nurses and midwives; (c) a student-centred approach, (d) a blended learning.

Indonesia has a very high level of disaster vulnerability. Earthquake disasters can occur at any time without being predicted. It is important to implement disaster management simulations in nursing learning to improve the knowledge and skills of nursing students. This paper purpose to find out whether disaster simulation can improve the knowledge and skills of nursing students. This literature uses inclusion and exclusion criteria, articles obtained and reviewed from databases namely Google Scholar (2008 - 2018) and PubMed (2008 - 2018). The search strategy and terminology used in English is as follows: simulation OR disaster or earthquake OR knowledge OR nursing student.  Ten articles were obtained from search results. Eight articles mention earthquake disaster simulations significantly increasing student knowledge and skills. While the two articles stated that disaster management simulation does not increase knowledge but increases attitudes or familiarity in the team and satisfaction. Disaster simulation is one of the methods and strategies in a learning system that has a positive impact, especially in the field of nursing education, especially in response to earthquake management?

Graduates of PhD nursing programs are expected to produce complex genres of writing such as abstracts, research grants, manuscripts for publication, and dissertations.  Research evidence shows a wide range of variability in writing among doctoral nursing students, and these variations may become more profound when exposed to complex genres. the objective of this study to explore the experience of PhD candidate in writing publication in high indexed journal. This case study used depth interview, semi structured question, Interview conducting in English, recorded voice used for transcribing data in 2 respondents from doctoral nursing candidate in Bangkok Thailand comes from Mahidol university and Chulalongkorn university. Participants’ criteria for this study are: 1) Doctoral candidate with minimum 1 publication in high indexed journal (Scopus/ ISI Thompson) 2) Doctoral nursing students that study in Thailand 3) Pass Qualifying Exam. Data analysis used modification Benner’s methods use in this study. This study exposing three themes. Theme 1: Strategies for publish. Theme 2: Support for publishing journal. Theme 3: two ways Communication with journal editors and public. Introduce scholarly writing at the undergraduate level and reinforce across the nursing education continuum, provide students with examples of quality scholarly writing, encourage student to connect with writing mentors (peers, colleagues, family, editor, faculty) are main recommendation for postgraduate student for increasing high level publication of nursing students.

Along with the development of information technology, which more rapidly, the need of a concept and mechanism of Information Technology-based learning becomes inevitable. Then, concept known as e-learning take affect transformation of occurs conventional education into digital form, both the content and the system that is bridged by the technology of internet. The concept of e-learning gives the possibility of interaction between lecturers and students, either the students in the classroom or outside the classroom intensively. This study aimed to obtain e-learning media based Moodle is effective to support the development of science and Islamic studies in Gayo through a series of development process. The finding of the study showed that e-learning based Moodle was conducted by using 4-D model (Four D Model). The results also showed that of development activities are: (1) e-learning media in Gayo which can be seen in www.elearning-gayobelajar.com and (2) the use of guide books for lecturers and teachers. The Finding also indicated that the development of E-learning based Moodle is reliable or has a high level of reliability if t is used in university.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT REQUEST OF AUTHOR.] Clinical reasoning (CR) is a critical skill that nursing students must acquire in order to provide safe, effective patient care and to function optimally in their future role as registered nurses. Because this complex, high-level thinking process is a relatively recent focus in nursing education, there are few specific studies in the literature that describe CR formation and measurement during the process of CR attainment. A qualitative study was conducted to explore the thinking processes and behaviors associated with the development of clinical reasoning in undergraduate baccalaureate nursing students. Data were collected during individual and small group interviews with 14 participants (n = 6 students; n = 8 faculty members) from public and private education institutions in the Midwest. Results yielded four themes: (1) Behaviors; (2) Thinking Patterns; (3) Feelings (both faculty and students); and (4) Thoughts About Self, a theme unique to the student participants. The themes were manifested in four stages of CR development (Pre CR, Developing CR, Post CR, and Delayed CR) throughout the nursing education program levels (Entry, Junior, and Senior). Findings present important implications for nursing education by providing evidence linking stages of CR development to specific observable behaviors, thus allowing for assessment of effective teaching and learning strategies and development of an assessment tool specific for CR development in both classroom and clinical settings.
