The aim of the study is to investigate the errors that first grade students have made in their writing of verticalnumbers which have just been applied by removing cursive writing. Considering the aim of the study, verticalnumber writing styles of the first-grade students in primary school were analyzed. The sample of the study consistsof 116 students who are studying in the first grade of primary school. The study was defined as a case study. A datacollection tool was developed for determining the mistakes that students made while writing the vertical numbers inline with the aim of the research. Through the data collection tool, all numbers from 0 to 9 are given as writtenstatements and it is required to write the numbers in the spaces left under them. The results obtained from theanalysis of the data include the existing types of errors that are relevant to the number writing in the students after thefirst literacy teaching processes. According to the results of the research, writing the numbers oblique,vertical-horizontal-diagonal straight lines are drawn in a curvilinear style, curvilinear and circular lines are distorted,numbers are not aligned in the direction of writing, and some numbers are written in reverse have been seen as themost common errors. In accordance with the types of errors identified in the research, it is thought that the emphasison dictation studies to increase the awareness of students will decrease these types of errors and their frequency. It isalso stated that it is important to diversify the related studies as much as possible, taking into consideration theindividual differences of the students.

The paper describes the possible option for giving a literacy lesson on acquainting the first-graders with the E-letter of the Russian alphabet. The lesson is structured in terms of literacy teaching technique, developed by D.B. El’konin and based on phonic analysis and efforts to develop skills to operate with phonic models of words. Possibility to use differentiated approach in teaching grammar to first-graders is highlighted.

The purpose of this research was to determine strategies used by 8th grade students in Number Sense problems. This was a case study of 28 8th grade students at three similar secondary schools in a city centre south of Turkey. A Number Sense test consisting of 25 items designed according to five main Number Sense components was used as a data collection tool. The data were analyzed using qualitative analysis methods. The students preferred Strategies Based on Rules while solving the Number Sense test compared to strategies based on number sense or Strategies Partially Based on Number Sense.

Conservation management benefits from having accurate and timely data on land-cover change, animal distribution and density, as well as the ability to detect poachers before they reach their target species. In addition to other methods, drones have become a data collection tool for all three of these aspects and are becoming rapidly more widespread in conservation management and research. This chapter discusses these three issues and provides a case study in which a drone was used for habitat mapping. The chapter will also go over some of the sensors and drone systems currently used in conservation. To conclude, it will discuss the current challenges with the usage of drones in conservation settings.

Abstract The purpose of this work was to experiment a didactic method to enhance learning of L2 by using psychomotor development in a first class of an Italian primary school. Two fundamental questions were posed at the outset of the project: a) can activities based on psycho-motor tasks enhance target language vocabulary acquisition in a group of first graders?; b) can creating a reggae/hip-hop song, improve pronunciation and retention of basic target language vocabulary? The target sample, consisted of 66 children from first grade, was divided into two groups (control vs experimental group). The protocol contents were taught over a period of 20 weeks and were closely related to those of the program of English. The significance of score differences in the entrance test and the final test was quantified through the analysis of the variance. The analysis of the results showed an improvement in the experimental group compared to the control group with respect to the acquisition and retention of L2 vocabulary. On the other hand, the data regarding pronunciation of the target language vocabulary tell a different story, with no significant difference emerging between the two groups. This experimental project allowed us to verify how physical activity and play, used as the primary teaching tool, can enhance L2 learning in primary school.

This study was aimed at finding out: 1) what folklores are suitable to be taught to the first graders at primary school and 2) what local wisdom values are there in the folklores. For this purpose, the sample was determined purposively, i.e., the first grade teachers who teach Balinese language, experts in folktales (Made Taro, DK Djareken, Buda Gautama, Suardiana and education experts. The data were collected through documents recording method, data cards and interview. The data were processed descriptive- qualitatively. The results showed that 1) the folktales that are suitable to be taught to the first graders at primary school are as follows: 1) folktales that teach the students to speak interact and socialize politely, education, and storytelling for 5 minutes. The local wisdom values contained in folktales are: 1) compassion (karuna); 2) Tri Hita Karana; 3) Tri Parartha; 4) Lascarya 5) alertness; 6) Kharma phala; 7) politeness; 8) Tri Dandim; 9) Mitia Hrdaya. In this context, the suggestion made is that the folktales that are suitable to be taught should meet the criteria (honesty, faith, and respect) that facilitate the teaching and learning process.

The aim of this research is to determine the reasons for academic jealousy experienced in universities and to reveal possible solutions to reduce academic jealousy. This research has been carried out in the framework of the qualitative research approach. The study group of this research consists of 8 academicians working at xxx University for the 2020-2021 education year. A semi-structured interview form has been used as a data collection tool in the research. Academicians’ perceptions of academic jealousy are defined under two headings as individual jealousy and institutional jealousy. The participants’ thoughts on the causes of academic jealousy are incompetence, inner failure, competition, and personal reasons. To reduce academic jealousy, the participants have offered the following solutions: policy-science culture, encouragement-cooperation, primary school education, competence, and sanction. The researchers have concluded that unless academic jealousy ends up or reduce, universities will lose high-quality academicians as time goes by.

The objective of this study is to explore and interpret Kurt Schwitters’ outside-the-surface Merzbau works in terms of form-meaning relationship. The study was carried on according to hermeneutic model. Documents were used as data collection tool. The study group consists of Merzbau works by Kurt Schwitters. It has been found out by the data obtained that the Merzbau works the artist made in Hannover, Germany and Norway were destroyed, and that his work in England, which he started making in 1947, is his only Merzbau work that survives until today. In the study, analyses were made based on the photographs left from the works and correlations were made with other artists’ works produced at the time. It has been observed that Schwitters composed his works by assembling trashes and found objects to which he assigned his own meaning. It has been seen that this resembles Cabinet of Curiosities in Renaissance. By placing his Merz works on a space, Schwitters transformed them into installations. Therefore, it has been found out that there is a connection between V. Tatlin’s corner counter-reliefs and his transforming the object into an artwork by isolating its worldly task. It has also been observed that the artist influenced Art Povera with the materials he used. It has been stated that throughout his lifetime, some additions could be made on Merzbau works that he created on the basis of concepts such as limitlessness-irregularity-infinity, and therefore, the endpoint of his works can be related to his moment of death. Positive adjustment to first grade is an important milestone in children’s lives. Yet, it is sometimes further complicated by additional challenges such as parental divorce. Drawing on a social ecological perspective we explored how the systems rooted in social ecologies enable children’s resilience when their parents are divorced so as to result in their coping well with adjusting to first grade. We used a single instrumental case study that involved visual methodologies to uncover lessons from the story of a first grader whose parents divorced but who continued to adjust well to first grade. Our findings suggest leverage points for school psychologists (SPs) who wish to champion the resilience of first graders who are adjusting to formal school as well as their parents’ divorce. SPs can intervene by supporting the first grader’s processes of agency and meaning making; by working systemically to engage systems of support; and by mobilizing systems with task-sharing.

Setting up an eye tracking experiment involves multitier processes that cover important issues such as developing the data collection guidelines, establishing data analysis protocols, and giving meaning to data. Although eye tracking handbooks have established imperative discussion on how the data should be analysed and written, there is still a dearth in the literature on data collection guidelines caused by the variety of features in different kinds of eye trackers. In this study, the researchers review the use of a wearable eye tracking apparatus with authentic materials and interview protocols. Exemplified through a preliminary study conducted on Year Six students in a primary school that investigates the internal processes of reading ESL texts, the significance and implications of using a wearable eye-tracking apparatus with a single point calibration are reported to improve the data collection guidelines. Relatedly, considerations for research procedures and instrument designs are also made in this paper.
