<p>This paper analyzes the main problems and difficulties in current college English oral English teaching practice, illustrates the relationship between oral English teaching and cross-cultural communication competence. On the one hand, cross-cultural communication plays an essential role in oral English teaching; besides, oral English teaching promotes cross-cultural communication competence. Our oral English teaching concept should be consistent with that of the world. We should lay equal stress on cross-cultural communication competence and oral English teaching for the purpose of improving the students’ cross-cultural oral communication ability.</p>

Abstract Professional foreign language training is offered to cultivate the ability to master cross-cultural communication in the sphere of future professional activity. By means of intercultural competence of foreign language we are raising professional competence, too. In countries where English is the native language, it is taught to speakers of other languages as an additional language to enable them to participate in all spheres of life of that country. In many countries where it is an official language and language of instruction, as most communication outside school is in the local languages it is taught as language to learn other disciplines. These are two contrasting contexts for enhancing the English language skills. In both settings there are concerns about students’ difficulties in developing adequate English proficiency to successfully learn content through that language. This paper analyzes the influence of sociocultural factors on the students’ motivation to learn English in different countries, reveals main problems and difficulties in oral English teaching practice, illustrates the relationship between oral English teaching and cross-cultural communication competence. On the one hand, cross-cultural communication plays an essential role in oral English teaching; besides, oral English teaching promotes cross-cultural communication competence. On the other hand, in some countries English is not the prerequisite of future successful career. But anyway the author insists on consistency of English teaching concept with that of the world. Improving the students’ cross-cultural oral communication ability is impossible without laying equal stress on cross-cultural communication competence and oral English teaching.

With the fast development of computer and internet technology, how to apply computer and internet technology into intercultural teaching to improve learners' intercultural competence aroused great interest in foreign language researchers and teachers. This essay tries to analyze the effects of CMIC on the intercultural competence of learners through the CMIC teaching practice between two universities from China and US. Based on the analysis of the questionnaire, students' reflective logs, and interviews, this essay concludes that the application of CMIC in intercultural teaching has positive effects on the improvement of learners' intercultural competence and that CMIC should be more widely applied into intercultural teaching.

Chinese spirits (Baijiu) is one of the eight major spirits in the world, with annual output accounting for one third of the world's distilled liquor, but Baijiu sales in the international market account for only 0.76%. Baijiu, with its long history, is well known in China, but its international recognition is very limited. To share Baijiu with Chinese characteristics with the world's friends, we need a group of people who not only are familiar with the history, culture and drinking style of Chinese Baijiu, but also have the fluent language ability and certain international cross-cultural communication ability. Talent is the hard core of development; to achieve the internationalization of Chinese Baijiu depends on the training of professionals. The "International Baijiu Sommelier" program co-sponsored by Sichuan University of Science and Engineering (SUSE) and Wuliangye Group is to fill this talent vacancy. This paper focuses on the cultivation strategy of “international Baijiu sommelier”.

This research contributes to the knowledge and theory on cross-cultural communication by investigating the impact of cross-cultural communication competence on the collective efficacy of multicultural National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball teams. Data was collected from 140 US National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball coaches via the Cross-Cultural Communication Competence Questionnaire and the Collective Efficacy Questionnaire for Sports. Principle component analysis was conducted on the data, revealing that the cross-cultural communication competence and collective efficacy of basketball teams are multidimensional. The hypothesized relationship between cross-cultural communication competence and collective efficacy was confirmed and statistically measured through regression analysis. It was found that four of the cross-cultural communication competence dimensions produced by the principle component analysis exhibited a significant positive relationship with one of the two dimensions within collective efficacy. Given the well-supported relationship between collective efficacy and team performance in business, this study produces important implications for scholars and practitioners working with multicultural sporting teams.
