In the years 1996- 1998, the occurrence of microscopic fungus-like organisms and fungi in plant associations of seven permanent plots of the Słowiński National Park, Poland, was investigated. The plant associations included <i>Betuletum pubescentis,Betulo-Quercetum roboris, Cirsio-Polygoneum, Filipendulo-Geronietum, Myrico-Salicetum auritae, Phragmitetum australis</i>, and <i>Ribo nigri-Alnetum</i>. A total of 1509 plant samples representing 272 species in 48 families were collected. Three hundred and ten species in 79 genera of fungus-like organisms and fungi were found. Most species were recognized in the warmer and more humid year 1998. The highest number of species represented mitosporic fungi, and the lowest came from the phylum Oomycota. The fungi relatively frequently found also were those of Basidiomycota. The greatest diversity of species of the microorganisms was revealed in the <i>Cirsio-Polygonetum</i> and <i>Filipendulo-Geranietum plant associations.

Results of mycosociological studies in selected forests communities of the Masurian Landscape Park between 1997 and 2000 are discussed. Observations were conducted in 8 permanent plots and 69 supplementary plots (400 m<sup>2</sup>). Five plant associations characteristic of the Masurian Landscape Park, <em>Peucedano-Pinetum, Serratulo-Pinetum, Vaccinio uliginosi-Pinetum, Tilio-Carpinetum</em> and <em>Fraxino-Alnetum</em>, were examined. A total of 335 macromycete species were recorded. The greatest number of species was observed in <em>Tilio-Carpinetum</em> (198).

The second part of the 2-part paper continues the presentation of results of a 3-year study on tbe occurrence of microscopic saprotrophic and parasitic fungus-like organisms and fungi in seven natural plant associations of the Słowiński National Park. The 310 species in 79 fungal genera revealed are listed and their frequency of occurrence in both each plant association where present and all the plant associations considered is presented. In case of species earlier infrequently found or for the first time encountered in Poland, their general distribution is also provided.

76 species, 3 varieties and 1 form from 21 genera of Streptophyta, Conjugatophyceae (Actinotaenium, Bambusina, Closterium, Cosmarium, Cylindrocystis, Euastrum, Gonatozygon, Haplotaenium, Micrasterias, Mougeotia, Netrium, Penium, Planotaenium, Pleurotaenium, Raphidiastrum, Spirogyra, Spirotaenia, Staurastrum, Staurodesmus, Tetmemorus, Xanthidium) were found in the basins of the Valdai District area of the National Park «Valdaiskiy» (Novgorod Region, Russia). The list of species is annotated with data on the species distribution in 55 collecting sites of 29 water bodies of the national park, and species abundance in collected samples according to Luknitskaya (2009). Among above mentioned genera, the genus Cosmarium is represented by the greatest number of species (20). Staurastrum chaetoceros has been found for the first time for the Novgorod Region.

A check list of the spider species of the Karoo National Park collected over a period of 10 years is presented. Thirty-eight families, represented by 102 genera and 116 species have been collected. Of these species, 76 (66.4 ) were wanderers and 39 (33.6 ) web builders. The Araneidae have the highest number of species (14) followed by the Thomisidae (10) and the Gnaphosidae (8), while 14 families are represented by a single species. Information on spider guilds, their habitat preference and web types is provided. This study forms part of the South African National Survey of Arachnida (SANSA).

An updated checklist of Iranian Encyrtidae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea) is presented based on literature records from 1947–2016. The current list includes 159 species representing 48 genera. Parasitoid-host associations in Iran and distributional data are also provided. Twelve encyrtid species (7.55%) are known only from Iran but a high number of species (68 species, 42.77%) are widely distributed in the Palaearctic region. Four species previously listed from Iran, Metaphycus angustifrons Compere, 1957, Homalotylus ephippium (Ruschka, 1923), H. sinensis Xu & He, 1997, and Ooencyrtus kuvanae (Howard, 1910) are no longer considered present. Hosts of Iranian encyrtid species are tabulated by order and family, with the majority being Hemiptera (66.98%), followed by Lepidoptera and Coleoptera (each 9.44%), Diptera (6.60%), Hymenoptera (4.71%) and Neuroptera (2.83%). The majority of Encyrtidae known in Iran are parasitoids of the superfamily Coccoidea (46.22%). Host-plant associations of Iranian Encyrtidae are also tabulated, by plant family.

This research was about Dipterocarpaceae inventory at Ketambe Research Station, Gunung Leuser National Park. The research was done on July 2015. Determination of sampling plot was using purposive sampling. The parameter observed was species as well as number of species. The result showed that there were 5 species of Dipterocarpaceae found in the sampling plot. All the species found were belongs to tribe of Shoreae namely; Shorea johorensis, Shorea parvifolia, Hopea dryobalanoides, Shorea lepidota, and Parashorea lucida.Key words: Dipterocarpaceae, inventory, Gunung Leuser National Park

Mycosociological observations were carried out between 1994-1996 on permanent plots within a <i>Tilio-Carpinetum</i> association in the Białowieża National Park. The project was carried out with international cooperation within the "Mycological monitoring in European oak forests" programme which was a result of multiple signals concerning the disappearance of oaks in our continent. Almost 40 years before mycosociological research in the same plant association and at the same plots were carried out. Studies were mainly concerned with analysing the terrestrial macromycetes, predominantly <i>Boletales</i> and <i>Agaricales</i>. They analysed the occurrence of saprotrophic and mycorrhizal fungi. Totaly 215 species from the above listed ecological groups, but there were only 34 species common to both studies. Dominating species within the mycorrhizal group were found.

Based on genetic, morphological and chromatical comparisons we evaluate the taxonomic status of two southern Vietnamese forest-dwelling populations of the Cyrtodactylus irregularis species complex. We confirm the allocation of the population from Binh Chau—Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve (Ba Ria—Vung Tau Province) to C. cattienensis and we describe the population of Nui Chua National Park (Ninh Thuan Province) as Cyrtodactylus sangi sp. nov. This brings to 18 the number of species within the C. irregularis complex and to 41 the number of described Cyrtodactylus species recorded from Vietnam.

Following the creation of the Empire Marketing Board in 1926, Australia's development was influenced by an imperial science increasingly aware of ecology. The present paper traces similar New Zealand links in the ecological approach to pasture development promoted in the Dominion by Bruce Levy and fuelled by the vision of George Stapledon of the Welsh Plant Breeding Station, who visited New Zealand in 1926. However, plant ecology came much earlier to New Zealand by way of Leonard Cockayne, who in 1908 used ecological arguments to press for the extension of Tongariro National Park and who saw New Zealand's unique plant associations as emblems of nation rather than endowments of empire. By comparing the application of ecology, in New Zealand at different times, to the separate (though not necessarily opposed) goals of building a nation and supporting an empire, insight is gained into the changing ways in which any science may be drawn into the service of societal priorities and aspirations.

ABSTRACT The northern Brazilian state of Mato Grosso is considered an important biogeographical region, but has many sampling gaps. Apart from the well-documented non volant mammal community in the region, the bat fauna still poorly recorded. The aim of this study was to record the bat species of Juruena National Park, northern Mato Grosso, Brazil. Nineteen sites were sampled using mist-nets placed at ground level and near potential bat roosts. We collected 115 individuals belonging to 35 species and five families, which increased the number of species known for Mato Grosso´s Amazon from 86 to 91. The five new records were: Peropteryx kappleri, Peropteryx leucoptera, Lonchorhina inusitata, Tonatia saurophila, and Artibeus concolor. Our results pointed out the necessity of more studies in order to better estimate the bat diversity in northern Mato Grosso.
