Various risks and uncertainties are strengthening the downside of the global economy. This paper aims to estimate the impact of the US–China conflict and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Appellate Body’s shutdown on global logistics demand and to show the seriousness of the situation. Existing literature studies on protectionism or the US–China trade conflict were considered, with a focus on the effects of specific issues or impact on bilateral relations. No research has quantitatively considered the adverse effects of the Appellate Body’s shutdown. In this situation, questions can be raised whether the current global shipping logistics system can be sustainable or not. This paper attempts to estimate the shrinking demand for shipping logistics due to global protectionism. Using a dynamic general equilibrium model and trade-cargo-container conversion methodology, which differentiates this paper from previous studies, the paper suggests that the combination of tariffs and NTBs can severely reduce international trade and the demand for maritime logistics services. Depending on the scenario, port cargo is expected to decrease by 3.95 to 6.9 trillion tons, which can be half of the global cargo. Based on these estimates, this paper suggests that a catastrophe could occur in global trade order as well as global maritime logistics. Finally, underlining that the international trade order should not be severely damaged, this paper proposes that countries around the world should seriously discuss this issue at the 12th WTO Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Kazakhstan in June 2020.

Decision-making in complex logistics systems involves high risks and associated impacts. A way to forecast the impacts of these decisions is through the use of systems simulation projects, where the systematic impacts of the parameters can be visualized. This study presents a project based on Discrete-Event Simulation (DES) that analyses Brazilian soybean export logistics from producing regions to main international customers. The strategic analysis of a global logistics system using DES is a particularity of this study. At the conception stage, the conceptual modelling was made using IDEF-SIM (Integrated Definition Methods – Simulation) method, which allowed a better abstraction of reality and more accurate model implementation. The experimental analysis took place through the construction of 39 scenarios with specific characteristics that verified system behaviours through proposed changes. The analyses and decisions are based on costs. The simulations indicated the necessity for: a) an integrated management between the systems agents; b) the development of internal transportation infrastructure, especially railways and waterways, to increase competitiveness of Brazilian soybeans in the international market.

Chinese businesses began with a weak foundation in the intense world trade environment, similar to the many other companies that grew from developing countries. How were these Chinese businesses able to compete with foreign competitors armed with strong capital structures and efficient communication networks? Haier is an excellent example of how Chinese companies have successfully adapted to and prospered in the global economy, using information technology as a strategic weapon to improve its competitive advantage and further to create collaborative advantage. Haier's growth is miraculous: in less than two decades, it grew from a state-owned refrigerator factory into an innovative international giant. The company has become China's first global brand and the fifth largest appliance seller in the world. What are the secrets of Haier's success? Many researchers have conducted extensive studies on Haier's management and found the key is Management Information Systems such as e-Commerce and logistics systems that improve business operations between its suppliers, customers, and business partners. This article recounts the journey of Haier's achievements to excellence through its MIS, and provides analyses of the company's business model, the market chain management model.

Cost rationalization has become imperative in every economic system in order to create adequate foundations for its efficient and sustainable management. Competitiveness in the global market is extremely high and it is challenging to manage business and logistics systems, especially in regards to financial parameters. The presence of inventories is inevitability in every logistics system, and it tends to create adequate policies for their efficient and sustainable management. In order to be able to do this, it is necessary to determine which products represent the largest percentage share in the value of procurement, and which are the most represented quantitatively. In this paper, the warehouse of construction material that represents the wholesale system is considered. Taking into account that it is wholesale, it is necessary to determine what the procurement costs are and what the demand is for certain products. The grouping of products into three categories A, B and C was performed, after which it is necessary to identify appropriate suppliers for each category in order to rationalize procurement costs. Financial, logistical and quality parameters are taken into account. The FUCOM method has been used to determine the significance of these parameters and ARAS method is applied for supplier evaluation and selection.

This article begins by setting out an analysis of the process of conventionalizing corporate crime that arises from the symbiotic relationship between states and corporations. Noting briefly the empirical characteristics of four broad categories of corporate crime and harm, the article then turns to explore the role of the state in its production and reproduction. We then problematize the role of the state in the reproduction of corporate crime at the level of the global economy, through a discussion of the “crimes of globalization” and “ecocide,” warning of the tendency in the research literature to oversimplify the role of states and of international organizations. The article finishes by arguing that, as critical academics, it is our role to ensure that corporate crime is never normalized nor fully conventionalized in advanced capitalist societies.

The irregularities of evolutionary development, continuous improvement of environmental component into transport and raise many unsolved problem in the fields of transport in logistics systems and material flows management. The city parameters analyses had highlighted connections with transport services technology. Also the distribution stage of the logistic chain, which consists of following market participants: incoming material flow, retailers and Transportation Company (carrier) in different cities has been considered. Transportation service is made by road transport. The paper compares results of transportation servicing in different cities and logistic chains with same technology. As performance indicator net present value has been used. Existing criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of distribution of material flows does not sufficiently take into account the time value of money and possible options for investment, so when estimating the performance of servicing of business investment indicators should be used. Paper should elucidate the impact of cities on the transport service efficacy. Practical suggestions on logistics system functioning and transportation service of retailers in urban area have been proposed. Obtained results discovered overall impact of city’s parameters (density of streets and roads network’ irregularity factor; automobilizationlevel; urban square; scheme of road network; city radius) on logistics according to model which include more than 50 parameters and allows finding regularities of changing logistics efficiency on them.

The subject of research is the global economy perceived through the prism of its conditions and transport challenges that its development is currently generating. The author justifies the hypothesis that transport being a lever of globalization processes and a stimulator of the development of the global economy requires improvement, and in all dimensions of its activity on an international scale. For this purpose, basic barriers and threats of transport and logistics that are or may appear in the global economy in the near future were identified. The potential effects resulting from this reason for the global economy and its selected sectors, mainly trade were also indicated. It also identifies actions that should be taken to eliminate or reduce existing transport barriers, including mainly infrastructure barriers, which should lead to an increase in the efficiency and effectiveness of the transport sector on a global scale. The publication uses the studies and reports of international organizations such as the WTO, WB, WEF regarding the subject under study. The obtained research results allowed to formulate conclusions that, firstly, the transport infrastructure and low quality of transport services are still a significant barrier to the development of many economies – including the world’s leading ones – and, secondly, that it is necessary to undertake coherent, internationally coordinated stimulating activities for transport development on a global scale. Transport is becoming a factor determining further growth of competitiveness and ensuring the expected level of facilitation in world trade and the required efficiency of functioning of global supply chains.

The paper reveals the important characteristics of methodological approaches to assessing the effectiveness of logistics systems. Peculiarities of functioning of logistics systems of pharmacy networks are characterized. Based on the acquaintance with the scientific works of the founders on this issue, approaches to assessing the effectiveness of the logistics system are systematized. A system of evaluation indicators for each component of the logistics system is proposed. The logistics system of the business entity, and this fully applies to the logistics system of pharmacy networks, is not in a permanent state. Dynamic changes in the system are due to the influence of macro-environmental factors and changes in the internal nature, which pose the task of developing the system to ensure its adequacy to new conditions. It is the development of the system is the basis for improving the efficiency of its operation and the ability to achieve goals through the solution of a certain range of tasks. In such conditions, the study of the development of the logistics system of the pharmacy network deserves special attention. Existing approaches to assessing the development of the logistics system do not exclude, but complement each other, creating a methodological basis for the formation of effective management decisions on logistics management of the business entity. As a result of research of scientific works of domestic and foreign scientists on a problem of a choice and formation of indicators of an estimation of efficiency of logistic systems, we proposed a system of evaluation indicators for each component of the logistics system. In this case, in our opinion, such a system should include not only indicators that characterize the efficiency of the functional components of the logistics system of the pharmacy network (supply, production, transportation, warehousing, sales), but also indicators of efficiency subsystems, namely organizational and management, infrastructure and resource subsystems. This system approach will allow to take into account the impact of all components of the logistics system of the pharmacy network on the efficiency of its operation.

The article considers the research of the process of supply of resources for construction taking into account the logistical needs of reversible logistics. The result will be the gradual formation of logistics systems in the construction industry, which should lead to the formation of a single logistics system of the construction industry. This will create a set of integration effects. First of all, to identify the main objectives of the logistics system in the construction industry as a whole, it is necessary to determine the basic economic parameters of each system participant, decompose the logistics system, and then determine the integrated economic characteristics of its activities. It is noted that the current level of logistics development and the growing specialization of its individual functional areas require a focus on the whole chain of causal relationships. Most logistics systems are focused on one direction of movement of inventory - from producer to end consumer. As a result, the process of decomposition of the logistics system of the construction industry according to the main economic parameters of operation was created. The current trends in logistics development that emerged during the pandemic have been identified. The general and basic concepts of waste management of construction companies are considered. The scheme of the waste management hierarchy is given. It is established that the main principles of economic regulation in the construction industry of waste management are to reduce the amount of waste and involve them in economic turnover; payment for waste disposal; economic incentives in the field of waste management. The main problems of reverse logistics facing the business and the possibility of solving them through the introduction of a system of reverse logistics or recycling are identified. In conclusion, the introduction of integrated logistics systems was proposed, which is especially effective in large construction projects located in urban centers, where massive material flows must be managed.
