The market in container shipping has been characterised as highly cyclical. In a depressed stage of the cycle, with a sharp decrease in demand, the gap between supply and demand widens significantly leading to a deepening overcapacity in the sector. In order to reduce overcapacity in the container shipping sector specific actions have been undertaken by such shipping operators. This paper describes a study which modelled certain selection criteria applied to overcapacity absorbing methods for containership companies. The relative ranking of each criterion was determined through a fuzzy- AHP method. In order to conduct the method, five main and twenty seven sub-criteria were determined. The results of this approach showed that during the times of a collapsed market the most preferred type of overcapacity absorbing method is to lay-up vessels, followed by adopting slow-steaming and thirdly, scrapping. Newbuilding contract cancellation/postponement and service suspension were found to have the least effect.

The article is devoted to the problem of multi-criteria decision making. As application problem is used the software selection problem. The analysis of existing methods for solving this problem is given. As a method for solving this problem, the most popular fuzzy AHP method (Analytic Hierarchy Process) is proposed. This method use original algorithm for pairwise comparison of criteria and alternatives. The issues of practical implementation of this method are discussed in details. The results of the solution test problem at all stages are presented.

Decision making (DM) is an important process encountered in every moment of life. Since it is difficult to interpret life depending on a single criterion, Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) enables to make decisions easier by creating appropriate choice in situations of uncertainty, complexity, and conflicting objectives. Therefore, we have studied the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) which is one of the MCDM methods based on binary comparison logic. When uncertainties concerning the nature of life are considered, the solution procedure of AHP has been addressed by using Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Numbers (IT2FN)s to obtain more realistic results. The usability of AHP with IT2FN is increased by amplifying hierarchy with sub-levels. Since sub-criterion may also need to be evaluated on sub-criteria in some cases of real multi-criteria problems, it is explicitly essential that each of sub-sub-criterion is included in the hierarchy at the own level in the real sense. In this paper, a new multilevel type-2 fuzzy AHP method is expanded by adding sub-criteria to the Interval Type-2 Fuzzy AHP (IT2FAHP) method developed by Kahraman et al. [C. Kahraman, B. Öztayşi, İ. Sarı and B. Turanoğlu, Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process with interval type-2 fuzzy sets, Knowledge-Based Systems 59 (2014), 48–57.]. Thanks to the extended method, another aim is to ensure that even complex situations that have multiple levels can be solved simply. Also, the proposed method is illustrated with a portfolio selection problem. Thus, the AHP method with type-2 fuzzy sets is carried out to the portfolio selection problem, which is in the scope of finance theory, for the first time in the literature.

The main purpose of this article is to apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to analyse key risk factors affecting cargo damages on export operations for container shipping carriers in Taiwan. Based on the literature and experts’ opinions, a hierarchical structure with three risk aspects and eleven risk factors was constructed. We then applied the AHP procedure and AHP experts’ questionnaires to evaluate the key risk factors. The empirical results showed that: (1) ‘Shipping proxy phase’ is the most important aspect affecting cargo damages on export operations for container shipping carriers in Taiwan. (2) In order of relative importance, the top four key risk factors are “shipper’s concealed items have not been reported,” “inappropriate cargo packaging,” “insecure fixation between the container and ship deck,” and “error in printed documents.” Furthermore, some recommendations concerning effective risk management strategies and advices are provided for container shipping carriers.

Purpose – The changes that occurred in the market, resulting from technological advancement, made companies pay attention to innovation in their processes, products or services, as a way to stand out. To enhance innovation in companies, focusing on leadership is an effective way. In this sense, the present study aimed to develop a model in order to list the priorities related to leadership and its interface with innovation, under the top management perspective of a telecommunications company.Design/methodology/approach – For the development of the model, the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy-AHP) method was used to identify such factors and the best alternatives so that the investigated company can make consistent decisions. Thus, the criteria chosen by the Manager and Director were discovered, as well as the alternatives that they cherish, contributing to the development of innovation within the company.Findings – The results showed that the perception of the two interviewees was similar, however, it is emphasized that they should better choose how to apply innovation within the company.Originality/value – This study opens the way to highlight the importance of the theme of leadership and its interface with innovation for professionals in the management area, favoring decision making, in addition to contributing to the literature, deepening the debate on the theme of leadership and innovation, which is still incipient and needs development.

Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is a business entity which collects funds from the public in the form of deposits and distribute to the public in the form of the People 's Business Credit (KUR) or loan. Along with over time after KUR realized, there is no doubt BRI will be faced with the problems of risk, namely the risk of KUR problematic. There are several methods that can be used in making a decision to be able to solve the problem include the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP).AHP is used when the decision involves many factors, where the decision had difficulty in making the weight of each factor. Despite this problem the use of AHP in Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach has less to cope with uncertainties taken by decision-makers, when it should give a definite value in the pairwise comparison matrix therefore, to overcome the weaknesses of the existing AHP then developed a method namely Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (F-AHP). F-AHP method is the combination between fuzzy AHP approach. The results of research conducted using the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (F-AHP) has a 100 % accuracy this is evidenced by the results obtained together with the calculation of banking. Calculation banking mention of 20 customers, acquired 14 accepted and rejected 6.

In Turkey, since March 2020, the pandemic process caused changes in the bank selection of consumers as it affected all other activities. Prioritization of bank selection criteria is a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem with conflicting criteria. In this study, the Pythagorean fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (PFAHP) is used to prioritize the selection criteria, it is aimed to provide more freedom for decision-makers in expressing their opinions. Not only quantitative criteria such as interest rate, ATM, and number of branches, but also the environmental and social impacts of the pandemic, the nine main criteria have been determined. As a result of interviews with different sectors, it was found that the loan interest rate is the most important criterion. The results were compared with different classical and fuzzy AHP methods, and it was found that the PFAHP method produced reliable and informative results that better represented the uncertainty of the decision-making process.

Abstract: Many marine riser risk factors in service were analyzed and the riser risk factor hierarchical structure was modeled, the weight of each riser risk factor was evaluated by the improved fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. The simulation results and accident statistics from both home and abroad are in good agreement. It proves that the method has good practicability, more scientific, reasonable and simple than the traditional fuzzy AHP. The results provide theoretical reference for maintenance and management, danger elimination and reinforcement of marine riser.
