Effects of thermal misfit strains on dielectric features for sandwich structural barium strontium titanate (BST) thin films on metal plates were investigated via a modified thermodynamic model. When TEC of substrates is closer to that of BST, larger permittivity and tunability can be received. The tendency of permittivities and tunabilities of such films as a function of TEC of substrates agrees with that of single compositional BST films and compositionally graded BST multilayer films. The highest tunability reaches 60% at the biasing field of 300 kV/cm when the films are onto Ti metal. Moreover, Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3/Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3/Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3 structure can obtain higher tunability than Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3/Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3/Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3 structure, while Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3/Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3/Ba[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]TiO3 films show better compatible composition range for relatively larger tunability. Dielectric properties of sandwich-like BST films in some references can also be analyzed based on our calculated results.

The Nb and Co doped barium titanate was synthesized by sol-gel auto-ignition synthesis process (abbreviated SAS) and compared with the doped powder of the same composition prepared by conventional ball milling process. The phase structure, morphology of the two as-obtained powders and correlative dielectric properties of sintered BaTiO3-based ceramics were measured. The XRD analysis demonstrated that the SAS powder was the Ba(M0.047Ti0.953)O3(M=Nb, Co) solid solution based on BaTiO3; it further suggested that Nb and Co cations could replace the Ti ions and reach reciprocal balance of acceptors and donors during the decomposition step of the organic fuel by igniting the dried gel. TEM observation showed that the Ba(M0.047Ti0.953)O3(M=Nb, Co) particles were spherical with the size ranged from 30 to 110nm. Furthermore, it was found that the value of the Curie temperature of both the doped powders was being lowered in comparison with pure BaTiO3 (Tc≈128°C ); and the dielectric constant at room temperature of the SAS powder was 5840, which was much higher than that of the conventional ball milling doped powder(3013). It was attributed to the maximum homogeneous distribution of dopants in Ba-Ti initial solution at atomic level via the SAS process.

Using basic magnesium carbonate (Mg(OH)2•4MgCO3•6H2O) and SiO2 as raw materials, forsterite (Mg2SiO4) was prepared by solid state synthesis process. The optimal process for synthesizing Mg2SiO4 was obtained by adjusting Mg/Si molar ratio and sintering temperature. The crystal phase of the obtained Mg2SiO4 powder was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results indicate that the single-phase Mg2SiO4 powder can be obtained when the mixtures with Mg/Si molar ratio of 2.05~2.01 were sintered at 1350°C for 3h in the air. The as-prepared Mg2SiO4 ceramic samples which were sintered at 1300~1360°C showed better dielectric properties with εr=7.4 and tanδ =7.5×10-4.
