This volume on Convolvulaceae is the 36th issue of the Flora of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and the first to integrate Tropical Fauna and Flora series. So far, thirty-five fascicles have been published on families of angiosperms and Gnetaceae. The family Convolvulaceae comprises about 1,900 species distributed worldwide in the tropical and warm temperate regions. This new account of the Convolvulaceae in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam includes 22 genera, 108 species, and 10 infraspecific taxa, with brief mention of another 13 cultivated species. The indigenous species richness for Convolvulaceae is quite high in this area, particularly for the genera Argyreia, Cordisepalum, Dinetus, Erycibe, Ipomoea, Lepistemon, Merremia, Neuropeltis, Porana, Rivea, and Tridynamia. A general introduction to the family is followed by technical descriptions for each genus, species, and infraspecific taxon, keys for identification, and concise summaries of what is known about the ecology, phenology, the distribution globally and mapped, any uses, vernacular names in languages spoken in the area, and pertinent notes concerning taxonomy or other topics. The flora is profusely illustrated with historical and modern botanical illustrations (line drawings, watercolours) and colour photos of living plants in the field. Voucher specimens are cited to document all information presented in the book. A bibliography of cited references where more detailed information may be found is included and three indexes conclude the flora.

In a recent issue of Zootaxa, Krysko et al. (2011) compiled and evaluated vouchers (i.e., specimens and photographs), and confirmed three intercepted and 137 introduced species of non-indigenous amphibians and reptiles in Florida from 1863 through 2010.  Trying to improve upon previous methodologies of reporting new non-indigenous species, we stressed the importance of providing all known data along with vouchers to help keep numbers of species consistent, accurately identify species, document when and where a particular species is found, and identify the invasion pathway and current invasion stage of each species.  High resolution digital images of each of the 83 newly confirmed taxa were registered in MorphoBank (www.morphobank.org; project number p536).  Physical voucher specimens are always preferred over photographs, as it can be quite difficult to accurately identify species that are morphologically similar or cryptic, especially in species that we are unfamiliar with or may originate in different countries.  In this paper we attempt to correct the species names of four taxa as well as the family and authority names attributed to one species.

We present a new marine benthic diatom genus Cymatosirella gen. nov. The genus belongs to the family Cymatosiraceae and has been assigned to the subfamily Extubocelluloideae on the basis of ultrastructural cell wall features. It has isovalvate cells with undulate valves and is characterized by the absence of tubular processes and the occurrence of hollow spines which are observed for the first time in the Cymatosiraceae. The new genus contains four species, two of which are transferred from the genus Cymatosira, viz. Cymatosirella capensis comb. nov. and Cymatosirella minutissima comb. nov., and two which are new to science, viz. Cymatosirella benguelensis sp. nov. and Cymatosirella taylorii sp. nov. Cymatosirella capensis is chosen as the generitype. The new genus includes a group of very small taxa inhabiting the intertidal zone of the Atlantic Ocean with three species in South Africa and one in Europe. C. capensis was originally described by Giffen from Langebaan Lagoon (a shallow marine inlet in the southern part of Saldanha Bay, Western Cape Province), on the basis of light microscopy only, and has to date only been illustrated by line drawings. C. minutissima, so far only known from the Westerschelde estuary (The Netherlands), has previously been documented in more detail using both light and electron microscopy. Here, we present the results of detailed light and electron microscopical investigations of C. capensis, both from its original type material and from recently collected samples from the type locality and neighboring littoral areas in the Western Cape Province, and of the new species C. benguelensis and C. taylorii, also from Western Cape localities. All species are compared with similar small taxa belonging to the Cymatosiraceae, subfamily Extubocelluloideae.

Invasive alien species of Upper Ganga Ramsar Site in Uttar Pradesh and their impact on the wetland ecosystem is discussed. In all 69 alien invasive species under 58 genera and 32 families were recorded of which there were 55 herbs, 5 climbers/twiners, 5 shrubs, 2 undershrubs and 2 tree species. The alien invasives of American origin dominated while the family Asteraceae showed maximum representation. It is inferred that stringent measures need to be adopted for combating the spread of alien invasives in order to conserve the wetland biodiversity and loss of indigenous species for habitat conservation.

At least 511 medicinal plant species are traded commercially in 50 Witwatersrand  umuthi shops. The plants are listedalphabetically by genus and common (vernacular) name. The orthographic vernacular names, as well as the orthographicvariations in these names, are incorporated into the list. Annotations include the plant family, the number of umuthi shopsstocking the species, the language of the common name, and the plant part traded. The plant family in the region which hasthe highest number of species and infraspecific taxa in trade is Liliaceae  sensu lato., followed in descending order by  Fabaceae, Asteraceae. Euphorbiaceae and Amaryllidaceae. Approximately 88.6% of the vernacular names are in Zulu. Themean number of umuthi shops per species is 12.3. ranging from 1 to 41. Three hundred and fifty three species (69.2%) occurin the four northern provinces, and 23 species are listed as threatened on the Red Data List.

Two taxa of Amomum (Zingiberaceae), Amomum erythranthum and Amomum ampliflorum, from Putao, Kachin State of Northern Myanmar are described and illustrated as new to science. Amomum erythranthum is morphologically similar to A. subulatum and A. nimkeyense in having similar yellow flowers, but can be distinguished by its reddish floral tube, red anther connective, red and pubescent fruit. Amomum ampliflorum is similar to A. maximum, A. dealbatum and A. odontocarpum in white flower, but differs in its longer inflorescence and much larger flower. Two species, Amomum pauciflorum and Wurfbainia microcarpum are recorded for the flora of Myanmar for the first time. Data on ecology, phenology, distribution, conservation status, similarities to the related taxa, as well as colour photographs and line drawings of the type, and voucher specimens are provided for all reported taxa.

The new genus Cyclacanthia n.g. is erected in the poecilosclerid Family Latrunculiidae for the type species Latrunculia bellae Samaai & Kelly, 2003, and two further species, Cyclacanthia cloverlyae sp. nov., and Cyclacanthia mzimayiensis sp. nov.. The latter species are from the subtropical east coast of South Africa, whereas C. bellae has only been found further south in warm temperate Algoa Bay. Cyclacanthia n.g. differs from other Latrunculiidae genera in the ontogeny, morphology and structure of the mature microsclere, the isospinodiscorhabd, which has only three major whorls of projections as opposed to the four in species of Latrunculia du Bocage. Additional diagnostic characters include the presence of broad swathes of megascleres that diverge from the base of the sponge towards the upper choanosome, where they form loose brushes and the typical whispy reticulation of most Latrunculiidae. The ectosome is composed of a dense tangential layer of megascleres, an irregular palisade of microscleres at the surface, and a permanently encrusting habit. Cyclacanthia n.g. is the second new latrunculid genus recently described from shallow subtidal South African waters, following major revision of the family. The presence of species in four of the five known genera in the family, on South African coastlines, suggests a diversity hot-spot for the family in this region.

The family Discidae has undergone extensive speciation in the Macaronesian region (eastern Atlantic Ocean), with 11 endemic species recognised from Madeira and the Canary Islands in recent checklists (Bank, Groh & Ripken 2002; Seddon 2008; Fauna Europaea database project 2011), grouped into the genera Keraea Gude, 1911 and Discus Fitzinger, 1833: K. deflorata (R.T. Lowe, 1855) and D. (Atlantica) guerinianus (R.T. Lowe, 1852), from Madeira; and nine species from the Canary Islands: K. garachicoensis (Wollaston, 1878), D. scutula, (Shuttleworth, 1852), D. engonatus (Shuttleworth, 1852), D. textilis (Shuttleworth, 1852), D. retextus, (Shuttleworth, 1852), D. putrescens (R.T. Lowe, 1861), D. ganodus (J. Mabille, 1882), D. gomerensis Rähle, 1994, and D. kompsus (J. Mabille, 1883). In contrast with the anatomical data known for the European and North American genera Discus and Anguispira Morse, 1864 (Uminski 1962; Pilsbry 1948), there has hitherto been no information published on the internal anatomy of the Canary Islands and Madeiran species, which are known only by their shell characters. In this paper we raise Atlantica to the rank of genus in the Discidae and describe shell and anatomical characters for two new species from La Gomera and Tenerife, respectively. They are grouped in a new subgenus of Atlantica, largely restricted to the laurisilva. This laurel-rich forest occurs in humid subtropical and warm-temperate regions with little variability in temperatures and is developed between 600 and 1,200 m above sea level in the Canary Islands (Yanes et al. 2009b: Fig. 2).

Abstract The systematic position of the enigmatic genus Squamanita (Agaricales, Basidiomycota) is largely unknown. Together with Cystoderma and Phaeolepiota, they were categorized as belonging in the tribe Cystodermateae. In this study, with newly generated sequences of the type species of the genus Squamanita, namely S. schreieri, and sequences of a few species of Cystodermateae, the phylogeny of this “tribe” is reinvestigated with a concatenated (28S-5.8S-18S) dataset. Our study reveals that Squamanita and Phaeolepiota-Cystoderma are indeed sister groups with moderate statistic support (MLBS/PP = 80/1), and Squamanita is a monophyletic clade with highly statistic support (MLBS/PP = 92/1). The family name Squamanitaceae is resurrected and emended to accommodate the three genera. Meanwhile, another concatenated (ITS-28S-18S) dataset is used to investigate the phylogenetic relationship and species delimitation in Squamanita. Our data indicated that “S. umbonata” from North America, Europe, East Asia, and Central America harbors a complex of species, and species of Squamanita can parasitize species of Amanita, besides other fungal species. Squamanita mira parasitizes A. kitamagotake (A. sect. Caesareae), while S. orientalis and S. sororcula are parasites of species belonging to the A. sepiacea complex (A. sect. Validae). “Squamanita umbonata” from Italy occurs on A. excelsa (A. sect. Validae). Three new species of Squamanita from East Asia, viz. S. mira, S. orientalis and S. sororcula are documented with morphological, multi-genes phylogenetic, ecological data, line drawings, and photographs and compared with similar species.

Fruit micromorphology of all 98 native, adventive, and cultivated species of the Umbelliferae of Siberiawas studied. We described simple hairs (size, shape, fine relief of cell wall, and tufted hairs), multicellular spines andglochidia, cell arrangement, cell form, fine relief (cuticular foldings), epicuticular wax, and stomata. We discuss thediversity of micromorphological characters and their value for species identification and taxonomy. We state numerousexamples of parallel variability of morphological traits in different subdivisions of the family

The new Polish rccord of <i>Sistotrema confluens</i> Pers.: Fr. provides the back-ground to outlining the morphology (with line drawings of microscopie characters), taxonomy and site conditions of this largely neglected polypore in Poland. The new record of the fungus is an 13. in the country but the first one documented by voucher specimens.
