Abstract The article is a review of completed research on developed and implemented innovative and technologically advanced technical systems. According to the Industry 4.0 concept they can have a significant impact on the efficiency of production processes and product development. In this perspective, the key aspect seems to be maintenance management of technical systems, realized both in the operate phase as well as during service and repair works. There were discussed research results of authors and developed application solutions supporting decision-making processes, in terms of three main periods of realization of exploitation processes: short, medium and long-term.

The term Errors of Commission (EOC) describes a safety problem of complex technical systems where humans intervene into the system functions in an inappropriate way. Most serious events in any technical area are caused by EOCs. Humans shut down a high pressure injection that is needed in the current situation (TMI Nuclear Power Plant), humans decide to continue a test that brings the plant into serious conditions (Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant), Maintenance Management does not exchange a wheel that is far below the safety margins (Eschede Railway Accident in Germany). Similar examples can be mentioned in other technical systems like Aircraft or Medicine for instance. This paper firstly gives an overview about the problem and the work in that field. It then focuses on some approaches for solution concerning the modeling of cognitive human behaviour.

Abstract In the publication the authors solve the problem of forming the optimal volume of control actions to maintain the technical systems (TS) service availability. To achieve the desired result the analysis of the TS as a service object was carried out. As a result of the analysis the system elements with a level of reliability below the required level are assigned to a separate group for which the maintenance modes are formed later, their actual state being taken into account. Namely, the decision is made what work on these elements can perform and what forces and means of the technical support system will be required for their operation. To form a list of necessary operations, the functional scheme analysis of the TS considered is carried out, during the analysis the functional as well as degradation characteristics of the system elements are determined as well as the significance (weight) of each element in the system. The analysis of the functional scheme of the TS is performed by using the functional-topological method.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to highlight the necessity of rethinking and restructuring the current system of maintenance for the military technical systems, based on the criteria of technical and economic efficiency of maintenance, as well as its management. The current maintenance system, rigorously planned and organized, but with irregular allocation of financial and material resources, could be made more efficient to the extent in which appropriate financial funds are provided and conceptual changes are brought to the objectives and to the content of the two components of maintenance, that of preventive maintenance (PREMENT) and of corrective maintenance (CORMENT) respectively. These changes at the operational level will be able to determine the reorientation of the financial resources towards maximizing the preventive maintenance activities. This is a major trend of the management of technical military systems maintenance within the NATO member states which results in important achievements in the field of manufacturing and employing military equipment.

The introduction and use of modern methods of proactive management of complex systems in decision support systems based on the collection and processing of heterogeneous data about the system and the generated precedents of events and corrective actions requires the search for new system-technical solutions for the data collection, storage and preliminary analysis, taking into account the control conditions and the characteristics of complex systems. A special feature of complex systems, such as large technical systems of industrial facilities, informatization and communication, transport, etc., is the combination of improvement stages (modernization of components) and development of systems (introduction of fundamentally new system engineering solutions) during their regular operation. In this regard, it is quite relevant to study the model for maintaining large technical systems and ways to create databases based on information reserves for decision support of proactive management. For the first time, system engineering solutions for the implementation of the original model and method based on a set of computer programs and the results of experimental tests are presented.

Abstract Analysing the current maintenance system, one can obviously notice a disadvantage to be found in all the cases in which the maintenance activities prove useless, not resulting in finding the flaws or the conditions leading to them, the verified equipment being declared as functioning well. Thus, it becomes indispensable that a rapid and efficient strategy should be implemented for the diagnosis of the component parts of the vehicles, the maintenance based on reliability respectively, which constantly monitors the evolution of parameters so that the permanent state of the vehicle is made known, as well as the necessary maintenance activities. As such, the maintenance based on reliability promotes an efficient policy of the maintenance activities throughout the period of using the vehicle, all the expenses being offset by reducing the maintenance costs through the decrease of the immobilisation time and the number of repair operations. The paper deals with a new approach of the aspects related to the maintenance system of vehicles, relying on mathematical statistics which allows for modelling the strategies likely to be applied within the system. The results of a mathematical approach should not be neglected since the future strategies of managing the maintenance processes of the technical systems cannot be based on simple empirical reasoning, which has most often proved costly.
