Abstract Analysing the current maintenance system, one can obviously notice a disadvantage to be found in all the cases in which the maintenance activities prove useless, not resulting in finding the flaws or the conditions leading to them, the verified equipment being declared as functioning well. Thus, it becomes indispensable that a rapid and efficient strategy should be implemented for the diagnosis of the component parts of the vehicles, the maintenance based on reliability respectively, which constantly monitors the evolution of parameters so that the permanent state of the vehicle is made known, as well as the necessary maintenance activities. As such, the maintenance based on reliability promotes an efficient policy of the maintenance activities throughout the period of using the vehicle, all the expenses being offset by reducing the maintenance costs through the decrease of the immobilisation time and the number of repair operations. The paper deals with a new approach of the aspects related to the maintenance system of vehicles, relying on mathematical statistics which allows for modelling the strategies likely to be applied within the system. The results of a mathematical approach should not be neglected since the future strategies of managing the maintenance processes of the technical systems cannot be based on simple empirical reasoning, which has most often proved costly.

Objectively and reliably determined indicators of rheological properties of the dough were identified using the alveograph device to create a system of classifications of wheat and flour from it for the intended purpose in the future. The analysis of the relationship of standardized quality indicators, as well as newly developed indicators for identifying them, differentiating the quality of wheat flour for the intended purpose, i.e. for finished products. To do this, we use mathematical statistics methods.

Successful interception of manoeuvring anti-surface missiles that are expected in the future can be achieved only if the estimation errors against manoeuvring targets can be minimized. The paper raises new ideas for an improved estimation concept by separating the tasks of the estimation system and by explicit use of the time-to-go in the process. The outcome of the new approach is illustrated by results of Monte Carlo simulations in generic interception scenarios. The results indicate that if an eventual ‘jump’ in the commanded target acceleration is detected sufficiently rapidly, small estimation errors and consequently precise guidance can be obtained.

This paper is aimed at helping organizations to understand what they can expect from a serverless architecture in the future and how they can make sound decisions about the choice between microservice and serverless architectures in the present. A serverless architecture is a new approach to offering services in the cloud. It was invented as a solution to the problem that many organizations are facing today – about 85% of their servers have underutilized capacity, which is proved to be costly and wasteful. By employing the serverless architecture, the organizations get a way to eliminate idle, underutilized servers and thus, to reduce their operational costs. Many cloud providers are now jumping to the serverless world because they know it is going to be the future of software architectures. However, being a new approach, the serverless architecture is still relatively immature – it is in the early stages of its support by cloud service platform providers. This paper provides an in-depth study about the serverless architecture and how to apply FaaS in the real world.

Newer and better medications are obtained as part of the drug discovery process, which occurs mainly in the pharmaceutical industry. This process is hampered by excessive attention to marketing demands, as opposed to scientific exploration. It also is impaired by the psychiatric profession’s mistaken ideologies, whether psychoanalytic orthodoxy in the past or DSM beliefs of the present. Wrong clinical phenotypes impair finding new pharmacological mechanisms and targeting them well to the write clinical indications. Perhaps as a consequence, no treatments have been developed in the last few decades, since DSM-III, that are more effective than prior agents. Progress for the future in drug discovery will require not just better neurobiological work, but also a new approach to clinical diagnoses in psychiatry.

A percutaneous transgastric jejunostomy allows long-term simultaneous gastric decompression and jejunal feedings. We have developed a safe and effective bedside technique for placement of a large-bore (22 French) feeding tube while providing gastric drainage with no mortalities and minimal morbidities. We have modified the push technique used for percutaneous gastrostomies and introduced a cut-away sheath that is placed using a modified Seldinger technique. The entire procedure is performed under endoscopic visualization. Our experience with more than 100 successful tube placements has made this method common practice at our institute. This technique is ideal for patients with poor gastric emptying of any etiology. We feel that this technique will have an expanding and important role in the future management of this patient population's nutritional problems.

Non-technical summary We interviewed grassroots food innovators in South Africa to explore the diverse ways in which their narratives expressed different capacities for resilience, such as dealing with surprise and shaping desirable change. We drew on key resilience themes of rootedness, resourcefulness and resistance (the 3Rs) as lenses through which to view their personal stories and efforts to build resilience and reshape the future. We used narrative and interpretative methods to connect the personal and context-specific experiences of food innovators to the 3Rs, exploring a new approach to uncovering resilience capacities. We suggest that this approach could be usefully employed to understand potential resilience capacities that could help address diverse sustainability challenges around the world.

PurposeThe article broaches the important topic of the relationships between governance operationalizations and productivity at the start-up level. It proposes a new approach to reconnect the contingency factors to the optimization of productivity. This helps us to identify the changing characteristics that influence the determinants of decisions, actions and management of the technological projects of the mainly innovative enterprises.Design/methodology/approachThe study uses techniques that effectively solve unobserved endogeneity and heterogeneity problems in enterprises: an empirical–structural design. With this method, this study enables rich empirical conceptualization and helps with extending theory. However, there is a need to further the research by taking into account the system analysis and the complexity of the research object: one of the options might be to explore a possible follow-up of the research through drawing on ethnostatistics and qualimetrics.FindingsThe analysis reveals that the phenomenon of technological project productivity in operational governance context is thus manifested by the coexistence of the applied governance configuration variables, the contingency factors operationalization, the optimizing productivity mechanisms and this with the secular innovation and stagnation and stagnation. Ceteris paribus, the governance operationalizations have an important role in the productivity of technological projects of the innovative enterprises.Originality/valueThis research is the first to mobilize as major determinants of the operationalization of governance, the oversight of the capital, the dividend strategy and the system control, the managerial follow-up, the detection of opportunistic behaviours and the application of governing incentives (among others) as governance configuration variables in order to highlight their interactions with productivity in the innovative firm technological projects. For this reason alone, the paper will be referenced by other authors in the future.
