Ship production, like other manufacturing and assembly activities, must keep up with technology to assure achievement of required productivity, quality, and technological advance expected by an increasingly demanding marketplace. The ship market has not only become technologically sophisticated, but customers now no longer buy on price alone. They want quality in design, detailing, operability, maintainability, reliability, usability, all in addition to a fair price, reliable delivery schedule, and effective follow-on service. In other words, the shipbuilding industry is finally emerging as a market-conscious, responsive industry aware of user needs. To perform this newly rediscovered function, shipbuilding has to assure better management of technological change in both product and process technology and assure continuous total quality management from design and production to delivery and follow. Many shipbuilders are new at this because many assumed a seller's marketplace. In this paper, the management of technological change and quality in ship production is presented as a formal step-by-step procedure which should be undertaken at regular (quarterly or at least yearly) intervals to assure that the yard maintains its quality and performance in process and product terms.

This study aims to prove the role of Total Quality Management (TQM) and organizational commitment in supporting the achievement of company operational performance. The population was all Convection SMEs in the city of Banda Aceh, consisted of 294 Convection SMEs. The sample was selected using a proportional sampling technique where sampling considers elements or categories in the study population. The sample taken was 15% of the population. One respondent represented one unit of SMEs, so the sample has amounted to 169 respondents. Data was collected using questionnaires. The model was analyzed with the Structural Equation Model Analysis. The result showed an influence between TQM on Organizational Commitment, TQM on Company Operational Performance, and Organizational Commitment on Company Operational Performance. This study also found that organizational commitment can act as a partial mediator to strengthen the effect of TQM on Company operational performance. The interesting issue in this study lies in the discussion of the organizational commitment to solving the inconsistency problems in the quality of convection production in SMEs. Furthermore, the other researchers can provide more concepts and variables to enrich this research model, like other mediators for TQM to achieve performance or even the commitment that can strengthen the TQM and performance. The model also can be a reference for practitioners to set their strategy in further, to go more productive.

Prior research has shown that when making high tech purchase decisions, consumers consider not only the relative advantage afforded by currently available products, but also the relative advantage expected from future generation products. Additionally, empirical evidence suggests that prices for high tech products often decline faster than the technology advances. This chapter takes both these findings into account and investigates the antecedents of expectation formation and how consumer purchase decisions for high- and low-tech products are impacted by asymmetrical rates of technological advance and price decline. Although consumers generally prefer the latest technological generation of a product, level of technological sophistication (high- vs. low-tech), rate of technological change and price decline, and expectations regarding future product introductions, based on familiarity with past product introductions, were found to moderate the effect of technological generation on preference.

Granularity is often ignored when designing geospatial Web services. Choices relating to granularity affect service interfaces, data storage and organization, and XML format design. This chapter highlights the importance of analyzing usage and performance requirements when deciding on granularity choices in the design of geospatial Web services. Often, instead of making design decisions based on these requirements, geospatial services are implemented using default, commonly used techniques which may reduce performance, increase complexity, or fail to fully meet user needs. This chapter discusses the importance of granularity in designing and implementing geospatial Web services and provides common examples that highlight the different approaches to granularity which are available.

In an increasingly digital environment that results in the technological advance of the fourth Industrial Revolution, it becomes interesting to understand the agribusiness success in a digital economy. The purpose of this chapter is to develop a theoretical framework for agribusiness success in Industry 4.0, so that future empirical research could be carried out. The research uses a literature review based on business success. First, it is essential to explore business success and then its determinants. Based on a holistic approach, a new conceptual model for agribusiness success is developed in three dimensions: growth, productivity, and performance, whether enterprises use e-business or not. The researcher suggests the impact of e-commerce, internationalization, strategic alignment, and managers characteristics as explanatory variables of the agribusiness success. The theoretical framework provides a different way forward for both managers and business advisors about what are the agribusiness success and those factors that may explain it.

The purpose of this study was to explre the relationship between total quality management and firm performance, i.e. quality, business and organizational performance in Jordanian private airlines. The design of this study has a quantitative approach. Data was obtained by questionnaire instrument. The respondents of this study are all employees in quality department, maintenance department, human resource department, and operation department. The number of population was 480 employees. Random sampling was used in the study. 340 completed questionnaires were analyzed as a final sample. Three hypotheses have been developed through literature review and tested using descriptive statistical analysis performed by SPSS. The results show that total quality management practices have a positive and significant impact on business, quality, and organizational performance in Jordanian private airlines. The study reports that effective implementation of total quality management practices results in enhancing airline performance. The major limitation of this study is that the study asked for perceived data about actual TQM practices and performance measures, but the respondents might have given desired data, which made their companies sound good, most of the respondents were non managers and from different departments in addition to the quality department, who might not understand to answer the questions accurately. Another limitation was that business performance tenets were measured by using one question per each tenet. Future research may investigate those TQM practices and performance measures in another Jordanian industry.
