Antioxidant effect of Amla (Emblica Officinalis) fruit and curry (Murraya Koenijii) leaf extracts on quality of goat meat nuggets

The present investigation was carried out to study the refrigeration preservation of the cauda epididymal retrieved spermatozoa of buck in Tris egg yolk citrate (TEYC) dilutor containing pomegranate juice as antioxidant additive. The retrieved cauda epididymal spermatozoa extended in TEYC dilutor were studied in five groups by adding different concentration of pomegranate juice as additive (0% as control T1 group and 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% as treatment T2, T3, T4 and T5 groups, respectively) and storing at refrigerated temperature up to 48 hr. The results showed that the control extender had the least dead, abnormal and HOS non-reacted sperm percent among all treatments tested and that with increasing the pomegranate juice concentration in dilutor, the percentage of the dead, abnormal and HOST non-reacted spermatozoa increased significantly. The same trend was observed at all 12 hourly storage intervals indicating its detrimental effect on epididymal sperms of bucks at refrigeration temperature. The dead, abnormal, and HOST non-reacted sperm were significantly and positively interrelated with each other (r = 0.53-0.83). It was concluded that the inclusion of pomegranate juice in TEYC dilutor did not show any beneficial/antioxidant effect on epididymal sperms of buck in fresh or refrigerated semen and in fact all the levels of pomegranate juice (5% to 20%) were detrimental to cauda epididymal spermatozoa of a buck.

The study was done to formulate a drink from an old medicinal herb and retain all the potential benets with a new taste and avor. For this an herbal drink was formulated and its quality ascertained. In the rst part of the study, syrup was prepared from the raw leaves of the herb with addition of acids and avors. Then this syrup was diluted further followed by carbonation with 1:3 ratio of soda water and bottled. Three samples were prepared namely, T1 (same as previous but with 1:3 ratio carbonation and dividing the sample hot lled and cold lled ). In the next part, prepared samples were subjected to sensory evaluation,chemical and microbial analysis when fresh and 0 after regular intervals at room temperature (27±1 °C) and refrigerated temperature (below 7 C). Microbial analysis of the product was done to check the quality of the herbal drink and self-life of the product. The control sample T1 cold lled was the most acceptable due to its unique taste and avor, followed by sample T1( hot lled) . The present study entailed to conclude that preparation of a drink with B. monnieri leaf extracts gives a new taste and avor with high nutritional values. This drink can be stored safe for nearly a month if carbonated and storage at refrigerated 0 temperature (below 5 C).

The aim of this paper was to investigate the antioxidant effect of Mn2+ (200 mM) on the sperm capacitation and acrosome reaction of fresh and chilled cattle bull semen. It has been found that Mn2+ supplementation improves (P≤0.05) the motility at 0, 2, 4 and 6 h of incubation. MDA (malondialdehyde), end product of lipid peroxidation, decreases significantly (P≤0.05) with the supplementation of manganese at 0- and 6-hr of incubation both in fresh and chilled semen. Manganese also increases acrosome reaction significantly (P≤0.05) both in fresh and chilled semen at 0, 4 and 6 h of incubation. Therefore, our findings suggest the role of Mn2+supplementation in improving the quality of cattle bull semen by its scavenging property<em> i.e.</em> reduction in the production of reactive oxygen species during its storage at 4°C or incubation at 37°C for capacitation.

The synthesis of silver nanoparticles via plant-mediated approach is an emerging area of research interest worldwide. The procedure is cost-effective and does not require the use of toxic chemicals and complicated reaction conditions. In the present investigation, silver nanoparticles were prepared using the leaf extracts of Ixora coccinea Linn., a common ornamental shrub in the Philippines, as the reducing agent. The effect of pH on the synthesis was investigated, and results showed that the quality of the synthesized silver nanoparticles changes in varying pH of the reducing agent.

Rasa Shastra is the pharmaceutical branch of Ayurveda. As like any other medical system, success of Ayurvedic treatment also depends upon quality of medicine prescribed to the patient. The integral part of Rasa Shastra lies in the successful pharmaceutical process. Rasa oushadis are the potent Ayurvedic preparations mainly containing metals and minerals. These oushadis possess a wide range of therapeutic efficacy and are considered superior because of their qualities like small dose, quick action, palatability and longer shelf life. Mayaphaladi Churna is an important Rasa oushadi described in Rasa Tantra Sara Va Siddha Prayoga Sangraha- Part 2, Streerogadhikara indicated for the management of the diseases Swetapradara and Yonibramsha. The ingredients present in the ‘Mayaphaladi Churna’ are Kukkutanda twak bhasma (Egg Shell Ash), Shuddha Sphatika (Alum), Mayaphala Churna (Quercus Infectoria Oliv.), Amalaki Churna (Emblica Officinalis Gearth), Ashwagandha Churna (Withania Somnifera Linn.) and Sita Churna (Sugar Candy). The main pharmaceutical procedures involved in the preparation of Mayaphaladi Churna are Shodhana, Marana, Churna nirmana and preparation of Mayaphaladi Churna. The specific pharmaceutical blend of these contents can result in a more effective formulation. Therefore the present study has been planned to standardize the method of preparation of Mayaphaladi Churna according to the method explained in the classical literatures.
