Pergularia daemia belongs to the family Asclepiadaceae, known to have anticancer, anti-inflammatory activity. Aim of the present study was to evaluate qualitative and quantitative phytochemical and antioxidant properties of ethanolic extracts of leaf, stem and root parts of P. daemia . Preliminary phytochemical analysis and in vitro antioxidant properties were evaluated by standard methods. The qualitative phytochemical analysis of P. daemia showed presence of flavonoids, tannins, alkaloid, phytosterol, carbohydrate, phenol, saponin, glycosides, terpenoids, steroids proteins and reducing sugars. Quantitative analysis showed polyphenol, flavonoid, flavonone, flavone and flavonol in P. daemia leaves, stem and root in considerable quantity. The in vitro antioxidant activity of P. daemia clearly demonstrated that leaf, stem and root parts have prominent antioxidant properties and was effective in scavenging free radicals.

The aim of present study was to investigate the preliminary phytochemical, physicochemical, TLC, minerals analysis and In-vitro antioxidant activity of leaves of ethanolic extract of Heldigardia populifolia. The preliminary phytochemical screening of ethanolic extract showed the presence of triterpenoids, flavonoids, glycosides, sterols, steroids, phenols, carbohydrates and saponins. The composition of minerals found in the leaf powder was within the permissible limits. TLC analysis of ethanol extract showed the five spots which indicate the presence of five phytoconstituents. The extractive value of ethanol was high than acetone. Ash values were within the limits. The in-vitro antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract increased with increasing the concentration. The ethanolic extract in all the concentration showed the significant antioxidant activity.

“Anantmul” is an important and widely used medicinal plant. The study aimed to determine the physicochemical composition, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity of Hemidesmus indicus (Asclepiadaceae). The roots of the plant were collected and sequentially extracted using petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The preliminary phytochemical screening of extracts was carried out and found to be a good source of bioactive compounds. Biological activities of flavonoid and phenolic compounds have been discovered in several latest studies. Further phytochemical isolation was carried out, and Lupeol was isolated. Phenols are shown to be multifunctional antioxidants which will perform as singlet oxygen quenchers. Lupeol was evaluated for in-vitro antioxidant activity. It showed a correlation with antioxidant activity by DPPH (IC50 = 0.52, P 6 0.05) and H2O2 (IC50 = 0.43, P 6 0.05). The results show promising perspectives for the exploitation and use of anantmul rhizome as a constituent of anti-aging as well as anticancer diet.  Keywords: Anantmul, Lupeol, Antioxidant, DPPH
