Epithelial ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancer in the United States and the country's fourth most common cause of cancer mortality in women. In the year 2004, there will be an estimated 25,580 new diagnoses and an estimated 16,090 deaths from this neoplasm. The incidence increases with age and is most prevalent in the eighth decade of life, with an incidence rate of 57/100,000 women.
