Motivation is a key aspect in education due to its influence on academic performance, and intervention programs are a useful resource to contribute to its improvement. However, selecting the right programme with quality guarantees is not always a simple task. One way to have a certain guarantee is by choosing those programs that have not only been evaluated, but for which there is also evidence that the evaluation has been performed correctly The present work aims to analyse the evaluation processes and results of different motivational intervention programs addressed to Secondary students from the results of their evaluation results. In order to achieve this goal, a theoretical approach to program evaluation and meta-evaluation is made and a review of the academic literature from which evaluations of motivational intervention programs are selected and compared. Finally, a meta-evaluation is performed through the application of standards. The results show that evaluations are generally conducted internally and in a summative manner, focusing on the results of implementation rather than on the process.

This study investigated the influence of fishing related activities on academic performance of secondary school students in Rachuonyo North Sub-County. The specific objectives were to examine the activities associated with fishing and determine how they influenced academic performance of secondary students in the Sub-County. The study targeted students and principals of the 49 secondary schools in Rachuonyo North Sub-county. The research used simple random sampling to select 14 public secondary schools and 20 Form Three students from each of the sampled schools. The total sample size was 292 respondents. Primary data was collected and analysed using quantitative and qualitative methods and then presented in tables in percentages. Data analysis was done using SPSS and the Microsoft Excel software. The study established that students participated in fishing activities while attending school. Major fishing activities that students engaged in included: actual fishing an agreement  index of 82.9% of students; repairing of fishing nets which was supported by 74.2% of students; setting of nets in the lake which was supported by 84.4% of students; and removal of fish from the nets which was agreed to by 83.9% of students. Some (91.7%) of the students believed that their counterparts who engaged in fishing activities tended to perform poorly in their classwork.  The study has recommended that parents, School Boards of Management and the communities along the beaches collaborate with each other in order to keep students from engaging in fishing activities for this likely to improve school attendance and academic performance of students. The Government should enforce compulsory basic education as well as provide it free to all children at this level of education.

International students do just as well as Australian students. This is the key finding from a study of the academic performance of 338,000 full-time students at 22 Australian uni- versities in 2003. The results of the study are important to international education professionals globally at a time when there have been allegations that Australian universities were dropping stan- dards to favor foreign students. The Sydney Morning Herald claimed in June 2005 to have found evidence of quality falling at universities to cater to international students with poor English seeking degrees so as to be accepted for migration. The research proved these allegations to be untrue. Australian students passed 89.4 percent of courses attempted, international students 88.8 percent. The results suggest that in their recruitment of international students Australian universities set their standards at about the right level.

This survey study measured the association between risk and protective factors of anxiety and its implications on the academic performance of 1,053 students at a four-year, public post-secondary institution in southwestern Ontario. Logistic regression analyses revealed 13 significant variables at the univariable level, while the multivariable model yielded seven significant factors. Students who felt hopeless significantly increased their odds of reporting anxiety adversely affecting their academic performance, while being able to manage daily responsibilities was the only protective factor against anxiety impacting students’ educational attainment. By planning, designing, and implementing proactive programs focusing on thesepredictor variables, such interventions can equip students against the debilitative influence of anxiety on their academic success.

Arra a kérdésre kerestük a választ, hogy melyik hallgató csoportnak jobb a tanulmányi eredménye, s milyen fejlődést érzékelnek a munkavégzéssel kapcsolatos képességeikben. Universities worldwide are challenged to prepare their students for expectation of the labor market. Higher education policy reforms are looking for the right solution, our opinion is that a dual education can be one of the best solution. The purpose of dual education is to confirm relationship between higher education institutions and employers, which has traditions in German vocational training (Baethge & Wolter, 2015; Göhringer, 2002). In our research based on quantitative and qualitative data, we examine the experiences of students in dual education and traditional education, the balance between work and study, and the academic performance of students.  During the research, we tried to find the answer to the questions of which student group had better academic achievement and how they thought improvement in their abilities. The results have shown that dual students have better academic performance than those in traditional education. Based on the qualitative part of the research, the students perceive significant development of skills.  Our results encourage us to call for further quantitative procedures.

Intraoperative consultation via frozen section is an important part of modern day surgical pathology. Recognizing fungi in tissues on frozen and permanent sections is not always a simple task, and correctly identifying the agent can be a significant challenge, even for experienced microscopists. We present a case of a 17-year-old boy with chronic osteomyelitis involving the right proximal ulna. During an irrigation and debridement operation, a frozen section was sent to surgical pathology for evaluation. A limited patient history coupled with sparse organisms present in the frozen section led to the diagnosis of fungal osteomyelitis, favor Coccidioides. Follow-up permanent sections with special staining and successful fungal culture clarified the causal agent to be Blastomyces dermatitidis. The role of frozen sections is not to perfectly speciate the fungal pathogen but to describe the morphology and infectious process and provide a differential diagnosis of the candidate fungi. The importance of intraoperative culture in infectious cases cannot be understated, and it is the responsibility of pathologists to inform surgeons that tissue is needed for culture. A brief overview of Blastomyces, including histopathologic features and key microscopic differences from Coccidioides and Cryptococcus, is discussed.

From the seeming chaos of war zones and emergency rooms to the ritualized order of forensic psychiatric settings and sexual health clinics, nurses often experience feelings of disgust and repulsion in their practice. For these intense feelings to occur, an abject object must exist. Cadaverous, sick, disabled bodies, troubled minds, wounds, vomit, feces, and so forth are all part of nursing work and threaten the clean and proper bodies of nurses. The unclean side of nursing is rarely accounted for in academic literature: it is silenced. Using a theoretical approach, the objective of this paper is to demonstrate how fruitful the concept of abjection is in understanding nurses’ reactions of disgust and repulsion regarding particular patients or clinical situations.

In this study, the authors describe the design and use evaluation of a system that allows the academic behavior analysis of high school students using a data model based on business intelligence techniques. Based on the system data analysis information can be extracted and the right decisions taken in order to help and improve the student academic performance. From the design and implementation of the model, the relationship between the study habits of students and their academic performance is studied. More specifically, it aims to validate the initial hypothesis that there is a relationship between study habits of students and their academic performance. Based on the analysis it is concluded that the initial hypothesis is true. The proposed model also allows the extraction of information to other levels, where its primary objective is the application to improve the academic performance of students or to prevent situations of academic failure.
