Media literacy of university teachers is a challenge of the current society, to achieve the critical education of the citizens. We present the process of design and validation of a questionnaire to know their level of media literacy. The analysis of validity and reliability of the instrument was carried out in two different stages to guarantee the consistency of the instrument: validation by Delphi method and by psychometric analysis from an international pilot simple of 260 university teachers. The result is an eight-dimensional questionnaire. The validation data and analysis by dimensions show a consistent tool for the collection of information in a changing knowledge field that needs instruments, making a valuable contribution for media literacy research.

This article proposes a theoretical framework for how critical digital literacy, conceptualized as incorporating Internet users’ utopian/dystopian imaginaries of society in the digital age, facilitates civic engagement. To do so, after reviewing media literacy research, it draws on utopian studies and political theory to frame utopian thinking as relying dialectically on utopianism and dystopianism. Conceptualizing critical digital literacy as incorporating utopianism/dystopianism prescribes that constructing and deploying an understanding of the Internet’s civic potentials and limitations is crucial to pursuing civic opportunities. The framework proposed, which has implications for media literacy research and practice, allows us to (1) disentangle users’ imaginaries of civic life from their imaginaries of the Internet, (2) resist the collapse of critical digital literacy into civic engagement that is understood as inherently progressive, and (3) problematize polarizing conclusions about users’ interpretations of the Internet as either crucial or detrimental to their online engagement.

The correct computation of steam subcooling, subsequent formation of nuclei and finally droplet growth is the basic prerequisite for a quantitative assessment of the wetness losses incurred in steam turbines due to thermal and inertial relaxation. The same basically applies for the prediction of droplet deposition and the resulting threat of erosion. Despite the fact that there are many CFD-packages that can deal with real-gas effects in steam flows, the accurate and reliable prediction of subcooling, condensation and wet steam flow in steam turbines using CFD is still a demanding task. One reason for this is the lack of validation data for turbines that can be used to assess the physical models applied. Experimental data from nozzle and cascade tests can be found in the open literature; however, this data is only partly useful for validation purposes for a number of reasons. With regard to steam turbine test data, there are some publications, yet always without any information about the turbine stage geometries. This publication is part of a two-part paper; whereas part 1 focuses on the numerical validation of wet steam models by means of condensing nozzle and cascade flows, the focus in this part lies on the comparison of CFD results of the turbine flow to experimental data at various load conditions. In order to assess the validity and reliability of the experimental data, the method of measurement is presented in detail and discussed. The comparison of experimental and numerical results is used for a discussion about the challenges in both modeling and measuring steam turbine flows, presenting the current experience and knowledge at ITSM.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the essential mentor characteristics for effective inter-organizational mentoring. This kind of HR development technique, where mentor and mentee belong to different organizations, is becoming increasingly popular and so far has been scarcely studied.Design/methodology/approachFirst, a rigorous literature analysis to identify primary mentor characteristics for managers and professionals has been performed; second, a Delphi analysis has determined their relevance according to the opinion of 125 experienced mentors, mentees and program coordinators that have carried out inter-organizational mentoring processes in Spain; and third, an exploratory factor analysis has reclassified the mentor characteristics into a smaller number of factors.FindingsIn total, 29 relevant mentor characteristics have been identified and valued. The foregoing characteristics are related to seven underlying dimensions or factors that serve to characterize an effective mentor for inter-organizational mentoring programs.Originality/valueThe research extends the existing literature regarding mentor characteristics of those mentors who are engaged in inter-organizational mentoring. In addition, this work offers a valuable contribution to inter-organizational mentoring research based in a Delphi method that includes both academic and practitioner perspectives in a cultural context that may have not received previous attention. The findings can be valuable for both academics who investigate this topic of growing interest, and for practitioners who must face the selection and training of mentors.

AbstractPartners from nine European countries developed a cyberbullying training manual for the benefit of trainers working with parents, school staff and young people.1The development of the training manual built on a two-level qualitative research process that combined elements of the Delphi method and online focus groups. The two studies outlined in this article aimed to assess trainers' and experts' views on the problem of cyberbullying while also gathering insight in relation to their preferences in terms of a training manual. This article outlines the main outcomes of a content analysis of experts' and trainers' views. According to experts and trainers, the sources of cyberbullying were specifically related to new technical developments and new patterns of usage, a lack of media literacy and media education, and the lack of appropriate laws, control and reporting mechanisms. Approaches for tackling cyberbullying suggested by experts and trainers included the provision of enhanced information on ICT and e-safety, adequate rules, monitoring mechanisms and sanctions. Furthermore a range of approaches targeting children and young people, parents and other adults, schools as well as approaches run by authorities and IT providers were suggested. In terms of the elements and style of a training manual, experts and trainers emphasised that it should be practically oriented, and that elements like narratives, case examples or video clips would be vital for the implementation of training.

Job crafting is self-inflicted modification of behaviors that employees engage in with the aim to support their jobs with their own passions, preferences and motives. It is a selfmodification which changes the behavior and through which employee engage in their jobs with their own choices and interest. Job crafting is a concept in which one can change his job behavior and work with his own needs and values for the better development of the organization. Job crafting produce the positive behavior in the employee through which the worker of an organization is capable to give his best and develop comfortable environment among his fellow beings. Job crafting helps to produce strong and positive waves in an employee of an organization. The present paper intends to test the appropriateness of scale Job crafting by Maria Tims & Arnold B .Bakker (2011) in Indian perspective especially for university teachers. The confirmatory factor analysis and cronbach’s statistical technique was applied to find out validity and reliability of the scale in Indian context. Based on a sample of 200 respondents empirical evidence validate an outstanding fit of multidimensional structure of 20 items of job crafting scale in the Indian context and the internal consistency indicates alpha coefficient (a = .870) is satisfactory for the whole job crafting scale. The study has showed the appropriateness of the job crafting of university teachers

Democracy in the digital networked age of “fake news” and “alternative facts” requires new literacy skills and critical awareness to read, write, and use media and technology to empower civic participation and social transformation. Unfortunately, not many educators have been prepared to teach students how to think critically with and about the media and technology that engulf us. Across the globe there is a growing movement to develop media and information literacy curriculum (UNESCO) and train teachers in media education (e-Media Education Lab), but these attempts are limited and in danger of co-optation by the faster growing, better financed, and less critical education and information technology corporations. It is essential to develop a critical response to the new information communication technologies that are embedded in all aspects of society. The possibilities and limitations are vast for teaching educators to enter K-12 classrooms and teach their students to use various media, critically question all types of texts, challenge problematic representations, and create alternative messages. Through applying a critical media literacy framework that has evolved from cultural studies and critical pedagogy, students at all grade levels can learn to critically analyze the messages and create their own alternative media. The voices of teachers engaging in this work can provide pragmatic insight into the potential and challenges of putting the theory into practice in K-12 public schools.
