Young people, according to UN defiiniciji, represent the future of every society and they are the most profitable long-term investmentEach year, approximately 1 million teenage girls become pregnant in the world, and every 67 seconds a baby teenager In the adolescent period a large number of young people start with alcohol, coffee, psychotropic substances and smoking. The reasons are most often the desire to prove, identification, affirmation sekusalnog identity, curiosity for the new and unknown. The aim of the study was to examine the knowledge, attitudes and knowledge of adolescents about the use of psychoactive substances, alcohol and tobacco, as well as to identify ways in which young people use their free time. The survey was conducted in April 2015, in primary and Secondary School in Foca. The survey included 212 respondents, of different genders and different age groups. Data were collected original survey questionnaire, anonymous character, which contains 14 questions.Both groups of patients in a large percentage stated that they did not try psychoactive substances, as the most common reason for drug use both cited as the main reason for the influence of society. Although sexual activity is still taboo in the RS, alarming data that 19% of ninth grade students sexually active, and to limit entry into sexual relations increasingly lowered.Young in primary and secondary school state that they are sufficiently informed of psychoactive substances, as the most frequent source of information for high school state TV and the Internet, and ninth grade students report that they are parents. In this time of adventure and immature display of defiance social and social norms, young people are very vulnerable group subject to acceptance of various forms of risk behavior.

In the century of modern technologies the human behaviour models are changing, new types of addiction are developing, including addiction to processes (cyber, games addiction), as well as addiction to new substances. Among young people there is observed an increased spreading of new psychotropic substances, manufacturing of which is very simple, but their realization determines possibilities for a markedly great profit. In the cultural environment of young people the new traditions are formed, specific elements of subculture, positive attitude towards being able to use and apply something new. A new value system is developing with a sense of unlimited freedom and extensive rights. Along with the chances to buy and use new psychoactive substances, the changes occur also in the young people’s psyche, affecting their emotional and physical condition. A new, socially-pedagogical approach is needed in restriction of the use of these new psychoactive substance.

This paper discusses the use of electronic voting systems specifically in a range of outreach contexts. The Department of Chemistry at the University of Reading and the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton are actively involved in delivering outreach activities at primary and secondary school level with a view to inspiring a new generation of budding chemists. Voting systems are successful in engaging students across all age groups as demonstrated by our experiences with youngsters aged 4 to 18. They are especially effective at breaking down the barriers of non communication thrown up by students when faced with a difficult question and encouraging the participation of even the most reticent teenager.

ABSTRACTNeisseria meningitidiscarriage data are necessary to inform serogroup B (NmB) immunization program implementation. This longitudinal study compared detection methods to measureN. meningitidisthroat carriage prevalence in Quebec from November 2010 to December 2013 using cultured swab isolates and direct swab PCR from students in ninth grade (aged 13 to 15 years;n= 534) and eleventh grade/college entry (16 to 18 years;n= 363) and in university students in dormitories (18 to 25 years;n= 360) at 3 time points per group. Meningococcal and NmB carriage rates were lower in ninth- and eleventh-grade/college entry students than university students, regardless of methodology. Genotyping cultured isolates by PCR detected NmB and non-NmB in 2.1% and 7.3% of ninth-grade students, in 1.7% and 7.2% of eleventh-grade/college entry students, and in 7.5% and 21.9% of university students, respectively. NmB acquisition rates were 1.9, 0.7, and 3.3 per 1,000 person-months across respective age groups. Most NmB isolates (94.7%, 76.9%, and 86.8%, respectively) expressed subfamily A factor H binding-protein (fHBP) variants. The most common non-NmB serogroups were NmY (1.7%/1.1%) from ninth grade and eleventh grade/college entry and NmW (2.8%) from university students. Genomic analyses detected disease-associated sequence types in carriage isolates, and carriage could persist for months. This is the largest longitudinal carriage study in Canada and the first to report fHBP variants in NmB carriage isolates in healthy Canadians. These data contribute to identification of the optimal window for NmB vaccination in precollege adolescents and provide a baseline for investigating NmB vaccination effects on carriage in this population.IMPORTANCEDisease caused byNeisseria meningitidisis associated with serious complications and a high fatality rate. Asymptomatic individuals can harbor the bacterium in the throat, a state known as “carriage,” which can lead to person-to-person spread of the pathogen. This study examinedN. meningitidiscarriage from 2010 to 2013 among 2 groups in the Quebec City region: ninth-grade students (aged 13 to 15 years), who were also followed in their last year of high school (eleventh grade/college entry; 16 to 18 years), and university students (18 to 25 years); both groups have been shown in some other geographic regions to have high rates of carriage. This study demonstrated thatN. meningitidiscarriage rates were higher among university students in dormitories than ninth-grade and eleventh-grade/college entry students. Understanding carriage rates in these age groups leads to better strategies to controlN. meningitidisby targeting vaccination to those responsible for transmission within the population.

Data from two large Canadian surveys are used to analyze educational and earnings performance of Blacks and Whites. The main purpose of this study is to determine how well blacks perform relative to Whites in these two areas. Canadian researchers have been studying black performance in education and labor markets since the 1970’s. Much of this research was done before 2000. It showed that there was considerable discrimination in the way Blacks were treated in the labor market but fewer problems concerning their success in the educational system. Since then more data has become available and it is possible to re-examine this issue and explore new dimensions of black economic performance. Educational outcomes are categorical and are analyzed by ordered Beta probability models. Earnings functions are estimated by mixed linear regression models where the mixing procedure is used to account for unobserved differences in respondent ability. Our results update and expand what was known before 2016 using the most resent Canadian Census and Youth Smoking Survey of which the latter contains academic performance information for students in primary and secondary school. The main results show that while Black males are able to access the educational system without much racial prejudice, they are not treated fairly in the labor market. Black females do less well in both the educational system and labor markets. Blacks earn significantly less than Whites for all age groups, all levels of education, and in all occupations. They are more likely to be less than fully employed and more likely to be at the bottom of the income distribution. These findings are consistent with earlier studies but the amount of discrimination is larger and black/white earnings differentials are larger than those found by researchers using earlier surveys. These results are disturbing and the persistence over long periods of time suggests that some form of expanded government intervention is needed. The surveys used here provide inadequate information on the process of discrimination. More and better data is needed to understand why, for example, black students do less well than their white counterparts in primary and secondary school and yet overcome these problems in tertiary education. Discrimination of any sort is costly to the victims but is also detrimental to society as a whole since it represents a failure our institutions to deliver a fair and just society for all groups regardless of race or ethnicity. The present article, addresses and discusses thin line between teasing, and violence in lower secondary school. The main aim of the study is to highlight and explore different types of “joking cultures” and lad cultures. This study draws from interviews with ninth grade students conducted at three schools in various geographic locations in Sweden. The results indicate that jokes and fighting for “fun” are recurrent in everyday school life and part of how boys conform in masculinity and homosocial relations. As part of conforming masculinity, boys are not expected to show pain and are expected to take part in homophobic teasing.

The current study explores Swedish teenage boys’ exposure to non-consensual sexting, drawing on interviews with ninth-grade students, age 14 to 15 years, in a lower secondary school in northern Sweden. The results reveal that boys are exposed to unsolicited “dick pics,” unsolicited “female nudes” and non-consensual “explicit video” sharing via the social media platform Snapchat. However, traditional notions of heteronormativity and heterosexual masculinity prevented boys from talking about, understanding and handling experiences that may be identified as digital sexual harassment. Additionally, because of traditional gendered perceptions, students had difficulty categorizing victims and perpetrators of sexting. The study shows that there is a link between male vulnerability and male loneliness that can be manifested in both an individual and collective sense.

Abstract The article presents the process of building the Franček Slovenian language portal aimed at primary- and secondary-school students. We discuss problems and solutions of linking and adapting existing non-pedagogical dictionaries for school use, while overcoming content and structural differences among the dictionaries. We also present some solutions within the process of adaptation to the online medium and visualisation adjustments for three age groups of school users with different content needs and levels of (meta)linguistic knowledge.

Freedom, autonomy and responsibility are the ends of every educational process, especially in the modern society: globalized, rapid, in transformation; society in which each one of us is called to make numerous choices. Therefore, it is urgent to educate to choose and educate to the choice, so that young people can emancipate themselves from possible conditionings. To this end, the Montessori method represents a privileged way: child is free to choose his own activity and learns "to do by himself" soon; the teacher prepares the environment and the materials that allow the student to satisfy the educational needs of each period of inner development. Then, Montessori gives importance to adolescence because it is during this period that grows the social man. Consequently, it is important to reform the secondary school in order to acquire the autonomy that each student will apply to the subsequent school grades and to all areas of life
