In order to understand the distribution and prevalence of Ommatissus lybicus (Homoptera: Tropiduchidae) as well as analyse their current biographical patterns and predict their future spread, comprehensive and highly sophisticated information on the environmental, climatic, and agricultural practices are essential. The analytical techniques available in modern spatial analysis packages, such as Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems, can help detect and model spatial links and correlations between the presence, absence and density of O. lybicus in response to climatic, environmental and human factors. The main objective of this paper is to review remote sensing and geographical information analytical techniques that can be applied in mapping and modelling the habitat and population density of O. lybicus in Oman. An exhaustive search of related literature revealed that there are few studies linking location-based infestation levels of pests like the O. lybicus with climatic, environmental and human practice related variables in the Middle East. Our review also highlights the accumulated knowledge and addresses the gaps in this area of research. Furthermore, it makes recommendations for future studies, and gives suggestions on monitoring and surveillance sites that are necessary in designing both local and regional level integrated pest management (IPM) policing of palm tree and other affected cultivated crops.

Agriculture is the pillar of the financial system of any country and it's far enormously crucial for financial improvement and social stability. Remote sensing has numerous benefits within the discipline of agronomical studies purpose.  Remote sensing has the capacity to face this big obstacle in the evolutionary changes in agricultural practices, by delivering recurrent information on crop condition at multiple scales and for different actors during the season. Because of the rapid changes in farming started from mid to past 1980, remote sensing has become an indispensable a part of precision agriculture. Agricultural systems need to be monitored in regular interval. Remote sensing act as vital method in well timed tracking and provides a correct snapshot of the agricultural with good accuracy. The tracking of agricultural strongly follows seasonal patterns on the subject of the organic life of crops. Because of this background we studied various remote sensing methods like crop classification, crop tracking and yield assessment. We discovered that almost all of the remote sensing methods have been exploratory investigations, examined on a nearby scale with direct dependence on ground data. In tandem with other specialized methods such as geographical information systems and global positioning systems, remote sensing plays an important role in the measurement and monitoring of agricultural activities. We begin this review by presenting an outline of the existing methods of remote sensing relevant to the agricultural sector. This paper analyses remote sensing methods progress, problems and future in agricultural context. This article will offer an outline of commercially remote sensors having high resolution which have been used or have ability for accuracy in collecting agriculture information. Further, overview illustrates current research trends in remote sensing methods that allow reinforcing applicative skills with precise necessities for specific forms of stakeholders. We offer a synthesis of the rising possibilities in remote sensing techniques that have to reinforce the role in imparting long time and efficient services for agricultural purpose. SAR remote sensing techniques have extremely good capability and could play an important role in diverse fields of agricultural remote sensing. Finally, the paper outlines challenges, limitation and future trends of remote sensing methods in crop evaluation. This paper concludes that current utilization of remote sensing methods in crop evaluation still remains in an experimental stage.

The problems of soil erosion are largely widespread in the countries of the Mediterranean basin. The process of gullying is a complex phenomenon with disastrous consequences. It particularly affects northern Algeria, decreasing the potentialities of the water tanks, reducing cultivable lands availability and degrading infrastructures. Therefore, this work studies the analysis and the prediction of gullying erosion by using a probabilistic approach based on multisource data. The objective of this search is to answer to the three following questions: i) which factors support the process of gullying ? ii) how does a process of gullying develop? iii) which are the zones favourable to gullying ? Works are undertaken on the catchment area of the Isser River. We focused the applications on the upstream part of the basin. In this research, we study a North-South transect which corresponds to three under-basins slopes. The choice of these tests areas answers to four criteria defined in our method: the representativeness, the homogeneity, the availability of former data and, finally, the accessibility. After the completion of the multisource data, modelling and multivariate analysis for the prediction of gullying. The combination factor-process by the univariate analysis allows on the one hand, to highlight the variables controlling the process of gullying, and on the other hand, to analyse the variables on a hierarchical basis and to know their degree of influence. The multivariate analysis, by the logistic regression model (LRM), enabled us to select the significant variables and to locate the most favourable zones for the process of gullying. The validation of the models is evaluated using the curves of lift spin. The results suggest that the factors highlighted by the model to be most influential on gullying erosion are: the lithology, the slope, the morphopedology, the rainfall erosivity and the land cover. The synthesis of this approach is illustrated in the form of charts of gullying erosion risk maps in four classes of probability. The assessment of the study shows the fundamental interest of this approach using geographical information systems and remote sensing, in particular for the watersheds of the southern Mediterranean, with the possibility of extending this methodology to other regions.

Flood has been a serious hazard for the past decades in Nigeria at large. The incidence of 2012 and 2018 flood disaster in Yenagoa, Amassoma and other parts of the state have not been recover till date and the government is not consigned about the well been of the people. The major causes of the flood are attributed to increased rainfall and lack of drainages including dredging of rivers and disobeying of environmental law and infrastructure failure. Coastal Towns or communities are one of the most affected areas of flood and their farms and fishing implements were washed away by the floodwater in 2012 and 2018 in Bayelsa State. Flood management is needed for provision of time information so quick response can be done as soon as possible. Using SRTM data to produce digital elevation model and IDW Contour, the 3D model from ground data of Yenagoa metropolis using ArcGIS 10.6 to generate and analyze them. As a result of field survey, flood level calculation was made to classified flood hazard zones for migration, Agricultural Educational, and construction purpose such as land suitability. This was used in ascertaining the extent of the flooded area. The result reveals that an area of over 5.9888882km2 and riverine and coastal area is flooded, affecting more than 15 coastal and riverine communities. The finding also concludes that remote sensing data like SRTM data and Geospatial techniques seems effective in mapping and identifying areas prone to flooding. Therefore Remote sensing and Geospatial database should be established for proper flood mapping and the government should constantly dredge the area from time to time.

Geographical information systems (GIS) are the systems that store location-based data and analyze them. GIS originated from the conventional cartographic techniques of simply drawing maps with a pencil and board. Following the adoption of computer technology, GIS further evolved as a geo-referenced dynamic information system, which can today be considered as a multi-disciplinary instrument that links different disciplines like geography, computer science, remote sensing, civil engineering, statistics, marketing, and other social and behavioral sciences. In this chapter, GIS is defined and its importance and functions are described in detail. Usage of GIS in marketing is explained, especially its development in marketing theory. Also, the value and scope of GIS in tourism management with a view to understand the spread of GIS applications in tourism is explored.
