Background Evidence indicates that applying technology to medication safety will improve the quality of medical services and enhance the medication-error management climate. The perceived benefits of using the medication safety system are an important factor for adopting a system. Aims The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of the perceived benefits of using a medication safety system in the relationship between transformational leadership and the medication-error management climate. Methods A total of 153 staff nurses from 11 secondary or tertiary hospitals in Korea were included. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, analysis of variance, Pearson correlations and multiple regression analyses were used. Results Transformational leadership was significantly correlated with the perceived benefits of the system use ( r = .17, p = .032) and medication-error management climate ( r = .55, p < .001). The perceived benefit of using the medication safety system was a mediator between transformational leadership and the medication-error management climate. Conclusions When chief executive officers construct and implement a medication safety system in their hospitals, transformational leadership can enhance the perceived benefits of system use, which is an important factor that contributes to a positive medication-error management climate.

Introduction To describe pharmacist interventions as a result of an independent double check during cognitive order verification of outpatient parenteral anti-cancer therapy. Methods A single-center, retrospective analysis of all individual orders for outpatient, parenteral anti-cancer agents within a hematology/oncology infusion center during a 30 day period was conducted. The primary endpoint was error identification rates during first and second verification. Secondary endpoints included the type, frequency, and severity of errors identified during second verification using a modified National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention Index. Results A total of 1970 anti-cancer parenteral orders were screened, from which 1645 received an independent double check and were included. The number of errors identified during first and second verification were 30 (1.8%) and 10 (0.6%) respectively; second verification resulted in a 33.3% increase in corrected errors. The 10 errors identified during second verification included: four rate transcriptions to optimize pump interoperability, three rate and/or volume modifications, two dosage adjustments, and one treatment deferral due to toxicity. The severity was classified as Category A for four (40%), Category C for three (30%), and Category D for three (30%) errors. This correlated to a low capacity for harm for seven (70%) and a serious capacity for three (30%) errors. Conclusions Second verification of outpatient, parenteral anti-cancer medication orders resulted in a 33.3% increase in corrected errors. Three errors detected during second verification were determined to have a serious capacity for harm, supporting the value of independent double checks during pharmacist cognitive order verification.

PurposeThe study aims to scrutinize the concomitant associations between corporate social responsibility (CSR), perceived organizational support (POS), green transformational leadership (GTL) and organizational performance (OP). This paper aims to explore the role of intervening variable to measure the strength on the relationship between CSR and OP.Design/methodology/approachThis research administered a survey through self-administered questionnaire among the staff-level employees of construction companies of Nepal. Fully filled 305 responses from the participants were analyzed using a structural equation model. The study used self-structured questionnaire as research tool and face-to-face meetings as data collection technique.FindingsThe research indicates that POS showed competitive partial mediation relation between CSR and OP. Besides, a novel exploration of the moderation effect of GTL displays a supportive role in harmonizing the CSR with organizational support to achieve better OP. This study enriches empirical evidence to understand the linkage between CSR and POS in staff-level employees in the construction area. Moreover, the research shed a light on GTL 's moderating influence on the mediated model of CSR, POS and OP.Research limitations/implicationsAlthough the results of the study add to the current knowledge base, several limitations highlight avenues for future research. Future studies can explore the relationship in other study areas with added evidence on a similar result with different analysis patterns and study sample. The research model studied in the context of Nepal creating evidence as a representation for the developing countries.Originality/valueThe intervening role of POS and GTL gives new insight for the research-based organization based social behavior and performance

AbstractMedication Error is an event that not only can harm the patient but also may endanger the safety of patients conducted by health workers, especially for patient safety. This study aims to examine and analyze the role of factors that contribute to the nurse's role in preventing medication error in hospitals Awal Bros Batam. This research method is quantitative using observational analytic study design to examine the relationship between the two variables studied. This research was conducted on a sample of 73 nurses at the Awal Bros Batam inpatient room consisting of six general rooms and two high-care units. The results of this study indicate that the statistical test showed p-value = 0.042; thus, there is no significant correlation between the perception of the workload with the role of nurses. There is a significant relationship of knowledge to the role of nurses p-value = 0.014, no significant association between the attitudes of nurses with nurse's role p-value = 0.009. The further recommendation to the hospital improves medication safety at the inpatient ward Awal Bros Batam Hospital, to use unit-dose dispensing system (UDD), as well as the use of electronic in the form of barcodes. Keywords: The role of the nurse, the perception of the workload, medication error AbstrakMedication error adalah peristiwa yang tidak hanya dapat membahayakan pasien tetapi juga dapat membahayakan keselamatan pasien yang dilakukan oleh petugas kesehatan, terutama untuk keselamatan pasien. This study explores the antecedents for organizational change readiness for altering the status quo and empirically validates few potent tools which facilitate change. By drawing on change management literature, this study examines the influence of employee voice (EV) and employee involvement (EI) on commitment-to-change (CTC), considering the latter as a mediating variable in the relation between antecedent human resources practices (EV and EI) and organizational change readiness (OCR). Subsequently, the moderating role of transformational leadership was analyzed on these posited relationships. The hypotheses proposed in the research model are tested on a sample of 516 employees from an Indian public sector organization, applying Baron and Kenny’s (1986) technique for establishing mediation and Ping’s approach to moderated structured equation modeling for moderation. The findings suggest that CTC partially mediates the relationship between EV and OCR, but it does not mediate between EI and OCR. Likewise, the study results also empirically validate that the relationship between EV and CTC is enhanced if leadership is transformational, also the hypothesis positing the moderating role of transformational leadership between EI and CTC was supported.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between transformational leadership and volunteers' performance and the role of self-efficacy as a mediator in this relationship. Design/methodology/approach This is a study based on responses to a questionnaire completed by a sample of volunteers in a voluntary sector organization in Hong Kong. This was an application of intrinsic motivation theory. Findings 1. Transformational leadership is positively associated with volunteers' performance, both in-role and extra-role. 2. The positive relationships between transformational leadership and volunteers' performance, both in-role and extra-role, are mediated by self-efficacy. Research limitations/implications This research has originality in that it studies these relationships in a voluntary sector organization. It uses questionnaire responses for data and hence there is no direct observation or measurement of volunteer performance. Practical implications Voluntary service organizations need to focus on issues of intrinsic motivation and personal development for volunteers. Originality/value This study has originality in enhancing the understanding of mechanisms mediating the relationship between transformational leadership and volunteers' performance.
