AbstractA combination of experts’ idea-generating, dignitaries in librarianship, and decision makers’ concerns at the level of Government should have been made capable of realizing libraries as the facilitator of teaching-learnig process with promising outcomes. Bright learners by way of efforts made in terms of an ever enhanced curriculum should have been developing to sophisticated personalities and geared towards humans with qualities. What has gone in practice proves to be swerving to some extent in that some sort of comprehensive model of running library services is due needed: a standing structure built in the middle of the scholl; collections including books, non-books, digital; and truly Librarian (i.e. main manager of the intellectual asset). Any most interesting activities possible need to be created to make library an area of “play” being the goal of a means to accelerating a reading habit especially among children in their early age. The librarian’s new paradigm should manage to penetrate the academic area of teachers in order that their collaboration with the teaching staff gives the chance to the library’s functioning in an optimal way. This paper will explore briefly what research tells us about library design and, more specifically, the design of reading spaces for the provision of pleasure reading in school libraries. Acoustics, lighting and temperature levels, amongst other factors, all have an impact upon the learning experience that takes place in any school space. How we approach the creation of library reading spaces will be discussed with a particular focus on student views and opinions. Furniture, layout, colour, display and ambience will all be considered in light of how they affect comfort and learning opportunities. A number of illustrative examples of school library reading spaces and the views of students will be shared with the audience during the formal presentation.

This modified Delphi study examined the views of the leaders of Australia’s teacher librarian associations on the bookless school library i.e. a library with no printed books or other printed material. Interviews were used to gather data on the participants’ views of what a bookless school library might look like, and what the role of the teacher librarian would be in relation to information literacy and resource creation. Results showed that a bookless school library would contain flexible learning spaces and be a learning commons in the school, which made use of a range of advanced technologies, including interactive walls. The roles of the teacher librarian as information literacy leader and as resource creator would be more important than today.

Elementary school students in Grades 3 to 8 in eight schools that had exemplary library programs were surveyed about their perceptions of the school library program and the teacher librarian. Students reported that the teacher librarian was knowledgeable and helpful and taught them key information literacy concepts. The library program supported them in reading for pleasure. The physical space of the library was significant to them and they perceived the library as a welcoming place used for multiple activities.

My name is Stephanie, and I am a collector. What are my favorite things to collect? That’s easy—dolls! I bought my first Barbie when I was six years old. I was given a doll from Morocco at age seven. To this day, I continue to collect both Barbies and international dolls, but my third collection now numbers eight hundred dolls. During my first year as an elementary school librarian in 1979, I began to collect dolls based on characters from children’s books.I wanted to add some zip and zing to class visits at my school library. The previous school librarian had plugged boys and girls into listening stations with worksheets each time they came to the library. I felt my students were missing out by not hearing fantastic tales from exotic places and visiting magical worlds of wonder.Bottom line, I wanted them to experience the joy found within the covers of books. That’s when the first dolls from children’s books—Corduroy, Curious George, the Cat in the Hat, and Winnie-the-Pooh—found their way into my shopping basket and my storytelling repertoire.

This study aims to describe the reading interest of elementary school students 01 and the factors that influence the reading interest of elementary school 01. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were elementary school students 01. Data collection was carried out using the methods of observation, interviews, and documentation. Interest in reading elementary school students is still low. Based on the results of the study concluded that: reading interest of elementary school students 01 is still low. Judging from the level of student visits to the library that are rarely done. Students prefer to be in class, tell stories with friends, compared to reading books to the library. The low reading interest of students is due to students lacking feelings, attention to books and the benefits of reading, as well as motivation from themselves and from others (the environment). The factors that influence students' mint reading are factors: internal factors (feelings, attention and motivation). The steps taken are by giving motivation, continuous attention to elementary school students 01 and attention to increase reading interest. Factors that influence reading interest from outside consist of the role of teacher, environment, family and facilities. A teacher should use the theory or component of learning strategies as a learning principle so that the learning process can be accepted by students well and more easily. The existence of a library in the school, where the library is a learning resource that is expected to foster interest in reading for students, then it should be managed well, for example a more attractive library design and provide many picture books that can improve the student's motor skills.
