Rural libraries have an essential role in providing information services for rural communities. The heterogeneity of rural communities from social, economic, and religious aspects is the basis for the importance of social inclusion-based library services. This study uses qualitative methods to describe the implementation of an inclusion-based village Perpustakaan Muda Bhakti (Permubha) Ngablak Village, Srumbung District, Magelang Regency and its role in the social, economic, and religious life of the village community. Through a SWOT analysis, this study resulted in several research findings. First, three things become Permubha's strengths in providing services: information disclosure and access policies, communication in services, and circulation of library facilities. Second, Permubha's weakness is the unavailability of a computer-based library catalog. Third, the opportunities/opportunities that exist in Permubha are descriptive and normative officer ethics, responsibility in providing services, the role of citizen donations, and infrastructure. Fourth, Permubha has several challenges ahead in terms of service evaluation, increasing the competence and qualifications of officers, and increasing responsibilities. Fifth, in addition to library services, Permubha plays a role in social, economic, and religious activities through programs that can be participated in by the Ngablak Village community, such as the salak library program, Suluh Libraries, satellite reading, and commemoration of Islamic holidays.

How important is access to patent documents for subsequent innovation? We examine the expansion of the USPTO Patent Library system after 1975. Patent libraries provided access to patents before the Internet. We find that after patent library opening, local patenting increases by 8–20 percent relative to similar regions. Additional analyses suggest that disclosure of technical information drives this effect: inventors increasingly take up ideas from outside their region, and the effect is strongest in technologies where patents are more informative. We thus provide evidence that disclosure plays an important role in cumulative innovation. (JEL D83, K11, O31, O34, R11)

Research has demonstrated that school leaders have little to no understanding of the instructional leadership role of the school librarian and have received little to no training in how to lead this population (Lewis, 2018; 2019). Though the standards of the school library field state that school librarians should be equipped and able to serve as instructional leaders of multiple literacies in K-12 education, barriers exist that inhibit this from becoming a reality in many schools. One of these barriers is a lack of administrative support in the form of a district library supervisor to develop a vision for and provide support to the district’s school library program and its personnel. Very little research has been conducted to examine the support needs of in-service school librarians (Weeks et al., 2017), and no research has been conducted to explore how to equip existing leadership to effectively lead its population of school librarians in a school district that lacks an official district library supervisor. The purpose of this study is to explore how school district leaders can foster the development of an effective school library in which school librarians serve as instructional leaders of multiple literacies.

Much of our professional conversations revolve around the concept of change—changing the way books are organized in a library or changing policy on checkouts and fines. These changes are exciting and oftentimes come with quick recognition and praise. But when we discuss changes in the way we collaborate with teachers or the way the school library program situates itself in the daily life of a school, frustrations mount, and our desire for silver-bullet solutions becomes evident. Differentiating the types of change we seek may help us understand how to frame our expectations and set our professional goals.

Through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), the Government Publishing Office (GPO) provides materials published by government agencies to designated libraries in the United States and its territories. In return, these libraries offer free, public access to the materials in their depository collections. The state of Georgia has 23 federal depository libraries—one Regional and 22 Selectives. All but two of these libraries are affiliated with academic institutions, and the majority are part of the University System of Georgia (USG).

Weeding is a systematic approach to the removal of resources from a library’s collection. In the weeding process, materials are identified for withdrawal in order to maintain a collection that is accurate, updated, well-used, meets the needs of the users, and is in line with the library’s mission. When weeding tangible resources that are part of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), a depository library must ensure that its weeding policy follows the Legal Requirements & Program Regulations of the Federal Depository Library Program and any separate guidelines set by the Regional Depository. However, there are no specific rules or guidelines to follow when weeding digital FDLP resources. This means that individual libraries have more leeway to craft digital weeding procedures that best serve their institution, patrons, and the community at large. In this article, we will discuss initial considerations when developing a process for weeding digital depository materials, we will examine different methods for analyzing a digital collection’s size and usage, and we will review methods for maintenance and weeding of digital resources.

The American Association of School Librarians developed a detailed plan, with more than 30 specific objectives and more than 75 target audiences, for the implementation of Information Power, the 1998 national guidelines for effective programs. Clear delineation of responsibilities at the national, state, district and school levels was a key part of the plan. Marketing research allowed the Association to increase sources of information for planning and to report that information more clearly and consistently, to reduce error and to manage the Association's marketing program more aggressively. Research from the implementation of change and effective staff development was incorporated in the training for state coordinators. Implementation is now underway with documented achievement of the early objectives.
