Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most frequent occupational health problems and accounts for a large number of losses in working days and disability for workers in modern industrialized countries. The aim of this paper was to investigate the prevalence of lower back problem and to associate risk factors among high school teachers. A cross-sectional study was conducted among high school teachers using self-administered questionnaires, which were distributed to randomly selected school teachers of 7 boys’ and 10 girls’ high schools across the city of Kerman and collected between October and November 2010. A total of 296 teachers returned completed questionnaires, yielding a response rate of 78.9%. The 12-month prevalence of LBP was 68.8%, which reporting with moderate disability. The results of multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that females [odds ratio (OR): 1.85, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.51–2.00] were positively correlated to LBP. Awkward arm posture (OR: 1.81, 95% CI: 1.24–2.62) and awkward body posture (OR: 1.23, 95% CI: 0.87–1.49) were significantly associated with LBP. Psychosocial job demands and job dissatisfaction were also significantly associated with LBP. Smoking cigarette was three times more likely to develop lower back pain when compared with non-smokers. The prevalence of LBP was high among high school teachers. A wide variety of LBP risk factors were identified in the current study. The present study indicates that the high prevalence of lower back pain may lose difficulty to teachers in getting to work and “performing” the work required of them, resulting in work absenteeism, which may decrease work productivity.

Abstract The extensive availability of internet has led to the the recognition of problematic internet use (so called internet addiction, IA) mostly involving adolescents. There is insufficient data about the prevalence of IA in adults. Here we present a study focusing on the prevalence and risk factors of internet addiction among high school teachers.Overall 2500 paper-based questionnaires were successfully delivered and 1817 responses received (response rate of 72.7%). 1194 females (65.7%) and 623 males (34.3%) participated in our study.In a multivariate analysis including of all factors (demographic data, internet habits, comorbidity etc) age < 35 years (OR: 6.098, CI: 5.09-7.08, p<0.001), male gender (OR=5.413, CI: 4.39-6.18, p=0.002), surfing on the internet > 5 hours daily (OR 2.568, CI: 2.03-3.39, p<0.001), having no children (OR: 1.353, CI: 1.13-1.99, p=0.0248), and having secondary employment (OR=11.377, CI: 8.67-13.07, p=0.001) were significantly associated with internet addiction.This is the first study from Hungary showing the prevalence and risk factors of internet addiction among high school teachers. A small, but significant proportion suffered from IA. Our study also draws attention to the risk factors of IA such as younger age, family status and working type.

The professional development of teachers is an important component of quality standards for any educational system, as teachers’ engagement in continuing professional development (CPD) activities are related with aspects of professional commitment and satisfaction. In this study, we explore how perceived demands of a national educational reform in the Philippines are associated with different indicators of senior high school teachers’ professional development. A survey of 289 teachers recruited to teach senior high school for the first time in the Philippines indicated that perceived demand was not associated with CPD participation intentions, but that perceived demand related to job requirement and to career planning had different associations with attitudes towards CPD. These different associations can be viewed as adaptive responding to the uncertainties in their changing work environment. The implications for conceptualizing the context of teachers’ professional development, and the external factors that strengthen or weaken teachers’ positive attitudes towards CPD are discussed.

Musculoskeletal disorders represent one of the leading causes of occupational injury and disability in the developed and industrially developing countries. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among Iranian high school teachers was determined by using Nordic questionnaires as the diagnostic tool. Data on MSDs were analyzed in 231 high school teachers. The survey was performed four times, twice every year. The MSDs were defined using three definitions, based on the frequency, duration and pain intensity of the symptoms. Symptoms causing work interference in the last 12 months were reported by 35% male and 15% female participants at baseline. Low back symptoms were the most common cause of work impairment (male = 69%, female = 77%), followed by equality pain in the neck. Based on the participants report, during the last 24 months there were totally 35% male and 15% female days of sick leave due to MSDs. The study confirms that the high prevalence of musculoskeletal problems may prevent teachers from doing their jobs, resulting in work absenteeism, may decrease work productivity, and may incur direct and indirect costs. Future research will examine the impact of organizational of work.

This study aims to describe the computer competency of high school teachers at Tinajero High School, in the Philippines, during the calendar year  2019. Specifically, it sought to identify and describe the teachers’ computer competency, strengths and weaknesses, and problems in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Most of the conducted studies focused on the computer competency of the students. Few studies addressed the computer competency level of the teachers. In this digital age, teachers are not exempted on learning he Microsoft application. Sooner or later, the world will be embracing a mode of instruction that uses more of computer than of those traditional ways.  This study used a descriptive-survey type of study and a validated competency test from Module quizzes from Innovate: A Mentor’s Guide to ICT Foundation Competencies by Microsoft Philippines. Findings showed the teachers are highly competent on MS Word, competent on MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. Insufficiency of the computer equipment was identified as the main problem. It is therefore recommended to further strengthen the ICT capability training being given to the teachers so that technology will be maximized in making the educative system more impactful to the learners.

This qualitative case study studied and explored how seven senior high school teachers in the Philippines taught Media and Information Literacy in the early years of its implementation through interviews, and analysis of the teachers’ lesson plans. To guide the data analysis, the researcher used the seven phases of analytic procedures or data analysis as described by Marshall and Rossman (2011). Results revealed that there was confusion and misunderstanding among school authorities as to the qualities of prospective MIL teachers as shared by the informants; motivation and preparation of MIL teachers were inadequate; and teachers did not have a deep understanding of the meaning, significance, and scope of the subject, MIL. Furthermore, the selected teachers simply used whatever strategies they know; and materials were not readily available for their use.

A cross sectional study was carried out among 140 high school teachers selected from 4 sub educational districts of Tirur educational district through multistage sampling. Both sexes were included in the study. The tool used for the study was Dutch musculoskeletal questionnaire and filled up by personal interview. The data obtained was statistically analyzed by using Chi square test, Yates correction and Fisher’s exact test. Most reported musculoskeletal complaints were knee pain (43%), shoulder pain (34%), Lower back pain (23%) and ankle pain (22%). This study shows that musculoskeletal disorders are prevalent among high school teachers of Tirur educational district. Musculoskeletal disorders are associated with factors such as age, gender and occupational factors such as prolonged standing and overtime work.
