Oil extract of three plant insecticides, Acalypha godseffiana, Annona muricata and Petiveria alliaceae were evaluated as protectant against field pest of three major Solanum species cultivated in Nigeria. The experimental design was laid out in a completely randomized block design with each treatment replicated three times. The results indicated low level in severity of shoot damage among Solanum macrocarpon bio-pesticide treated plants and their interactions. Higher fruit damage severity (13.93%) was reflected in untreated S. macrocarpon interactions. Findings from the study reflected a coefficient of determination  (R2) = 0.18 between plant oil treatments and fruit yield of eggplant species, which implies that 18% of the variance in fruit yield of eggplant species can be attributed to the plant oil treatments. Further screening of the active components of the botanicals for insecticidal potency is hereby recommended.

The aim of this study was to identify an eggplant donor line which possess the largest frequency of favourable alleles that control fruit yield. Such donor line should be used to improve the elite eggplant hybride K35 x K12. The fruit yield of the elite hybrid, its parents and their hybrids with three potential donor lines (K36/1, K11 and K22/2) was examined in a diallel set by means of field trials. The trials were set in a randomized block design in three replications. After the fruit yield had been measured, the modified method of evaluation of relative loci value according to Dudley (1987) was applied. Ali inbred lines expressed positive values of the ?G' parameter. The K11 inbred had the largest ?G' value (2.38) and, also, the lowest frequency of unfavourable alleles on the loci class D (1.33). It was established that the K11 inbred line was more related to the K35 parental inbred line (7.81). Consequently, on the basis of the ?D' values, improvement should be obtained by backcrossing the elite hybrid K35 x K11 to the donor inbred K11.

This study was carried out in Bingol province on eastern Anatolian Region between 2013 and 2015. In this study, we obtained 14 bitter vetch genotypes from different sources. The experiment was carried our in three replications in randomized block design. Each plant was weekly measured for 6 weeks starting from germination. For each plant, plant height, fresh and dry stem weight, fresh and dry leaf weights were determined. Logistic, Richards and Weibull growth models were fitted to describe the growth pattern of the genotypes. The best fitting model criteria used were coefficient of determination and mean squared. Richards’s growth model was found to best fit the data for most of the genotypes. Logistic model was the worst fit. In Turkey, climate and soil properties have very large variations. For this, local genotypes showed large variation according to plating areas. YEREL LICE genotype showed more stable and it is the height identified all growth models than other local genotypes. However, IFVE 2923 SEL and IFVE 2977 SEL 2802 these genotypes gave positive results in different environmental conditions.

A study was conducted from January to June 2019 in Dhading district to identify the effective commercial insecticide against fruit and shoot borer of brinjal (Leucinodes orbonalis). A field experiment was conducted in Randomized Completely Block Design with five treatments (T1: Spinosad @ 1 ml/ 3 liters, T2: Chlorantraniliprole 1 ml/ 3 liters, T3: Cypermethrin 3 ml/ 1 liter, T4: Neem 3 ml/ 1 liter and T5: Control) and four replications. Result indicated that the fruit infestation percent and shoot damage reduction percent, fruit infestation reduction percent were highly significant with the application of insecticides. The shoot damage percent and fruit damage percent was the lowest with spinosad followed by chlorantraniliprole, cypermethrin and Neem. Thus, spinosad is the most effective insecticides for the management of fruit and shoot borer of brinjal in field conditions.

The açai fruit yield is concentrated between the months of July to December (harvest), providing an important income to actors involved in the production chain, however in the off-season this brings serious socioeconomic problems, with the need for research that may offer selected genetic materials that can circumvent this problem. However, the age for making this selection in this species is unknown. Therefore, the objective of this work was to infer the best age for selection by estimating genetic and phenotypic parameters in the different stages of evaluating progenies of half-sibs of acai. The experiment followed a randomized block design with three replications and five plants per plot, with 30 progenies. The statistical analysis was performed using the REML/BLUP methodology. The results showed that the magnitudes of the estimates of heritability and genetic variation decrease with age; the correlations between the characters that make up fruit yield reveal that the number of bunches is the most important component of yield; for the fruit yield character, the age of progenies and harvest years indicate that early selections are more efficient; the early emission of tillers is an important characteristic to be sought in açai breeding programs guaranteeing greater fruit yield in adult plants; and higher fruit yield in the off-season is possible from the fourth year of harvest.

The production of organically grown tomatoes in the Amazonian region of Brazil is difficult due to inherent phytosanitary issues. The objectives of the present investigation were to evaluate the productivity of grafted tomato plants (Solanumlycopersicum cv. Santa Adélia) grown organically in Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil, and to assess scion/rootstock compatibility under organic growth conditions. The Solanum species employed as rootstocks were S. gilo (jiló), S. lycocarpum (jurubebão), S. stramonifolium (jurubeba vermelha) and S. viarum (joá), while the susceptible S.lycopersicum cultivar Santa Adélia was the scion. Ungrafted tomato plants and tomato grafted on tomato rootstock were employed as controls. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized block design with six treatments and five repetitions of five plants each. Data were submitted to analysis of variance and the significance of differences between treatments were determined using the Tukey test (P<0.05). All ungrafted tomato plants and those comprising tomato grafted on S.lycopersicum rootstock became infected by brown rot and perished. The total numbers of fruits, numbers of marketable fruits, mean masses of fruits, total productivities and productivities of marketable fruits associated with tomato grafted on S. gilo, S. lycocarpum and S. stramonifolium rootstocks were significantly higher (P<0.05) than the equivalent values obtained with tomato grafted on S. viarum rootstock. S. gilo exhibited the best compatibility index (1.11) of all rootstock/scion combinations studied. It is concluded that tomato grafted on S. gilo, S. lycocarpum and S. stramonifolium rootstocks represent viable alternatives for the production of organic tomatoes in the Amazon region.
