Abstract Background : Post-caesarean wound sepsis is among the most common problem for patients who undergo caesarean section. It remains a common and widespread problem contributing to morbidity and mortality; this could be due to an increase in antimicrobial resistance. Determining the burden of wound sepsis and common bacterial pathogens can provide solution to prevent incidence and establish microbiological mapping. Aim: To determine prevalence, identify factors, common bacterial pathogens from post-caesarean wounds and antibacterial susceptibility pattern at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. Methods : A cross-sectional study was conducted among post-caesarean mothers attending Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. Consecutive enrolment of 303 participants who consented to participate was done. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data on associated factors and wound swabs were done prior to bacterial culture. Antibacterial susceptibility pattern of isolated bacterial pathogens was determined by Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method. Data was analyzed using Stata 14.2. Results : The wound sepsis rate was 16.8%. Being educated, multiple vaginal examination, hygiene, previous caesarean sections and HIV seropositivity were all significantly and positively associated with post-caesarean wound sepsis (p<0.05). The most implicated bacteria was Staphylococcus aureus and was most susceptible to ciprofloxacin. Resistance was most exhibited against ciprofloxacin, gentamycin, ceftriaxone and cotrimoxazole especially by coliforms. Conclusions. The rate of caesarean wound sepsis is high at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital . Being educated, multiple vaginal examination, hygiene, previous caesarean sections and HIV seropositivity are possible risk factors for the condition. Staphylococcus aureus is the commonest organism isolated from exudates of septic wounds after caesarean section. Awareness amongst health workers and patients about these major factors is necessary so that management can be directed. Rational use of antibiotics by health workers is paramount to combat resistance in this setting.

Introduction: Osteopaths are important actors in the Austrian healthcare system. High prevalence rates for diseases associated with nutrition, as well as studies from other countries, imply that os-teopaths are confronted with questions regarding nutrition in the course of their work. Aim: The purpose of this study was to survey osteopath's knowledge of nutritional issues in a cross-sectional study and analyze factors that influence nutrition knowledge. Furthermore, it will be investigated if osteopaths are confronted with problems or questions regarding nutrition. Material and Methods: With the help of schools of osteopathy all osteopaths, who could be found in Austria, were asked to participate in an online survey. As instruments of research, the General Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire (GNKQ) and a second questionnaire were used. Results: The average rate of correctly answered questions was 74.4% for the GNKQ and 37.2% for the Temple Questionnaire (n=188). Discussion: Compared to other occupational groups in the American or British healthcare system, Austrian osteopaths' average nutritional knowledge is slightly higher. Only nutrition experts and people employed at centres specializing in eating disorders obtained more favourable results. Fur-ther surveys ought to develop valid instruments for Austria and attempt to define which amount of nutrition knowledge can be considered as adequate for certain occupational groups. Keywords: nutrition knowledge, knowledge of nutritional issues, osteopathy, General Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire

Background and Aims: There is a high burden of vaccine-preventable diseases in the children under five years of age, particularly pneumonia diarrhea and which is greatly affected by low immunization coverage despite the existing efforts and policies. This study was carried out in Butaleja district and was aimed at establishing the socio-demographic determinants of vaccine coverage for pneumococcus and rotavirus among under five children (U5C) in the district. Study Design: This was a mixed methods cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Busolwe Town Council, Butaleja District, Eastern Uganda. Methodology: Structured researcher administered questionnaires were administered to 434 caregivers of U5C in different parts of Butaleja district. In-depth interviews with key informants and focused group discussions with Village Health Teams and community members were conducted. Review of Health Management Information Systems records was done. STATA 15 was used to analyze the data. Results: The study found that there is a declining trend in completion of the doses of Pneumococcal vaccine (PCV) and Rotavirus vaccine. For example, in quarter 1 of 2019, out of the 312 children who started immunization, only 2 completed Rota virus immunization and only 117 completed PCV vaccinations a trend that has been observed since 2016. The factors that showed a significant association with the the fact that they gave their child at least one dose of  the vaccine were having been sensitized on the current immunisation schedule(P-value = <0.001), misunderstanding that vaccine is harmful for child (P-value = 0.007), willingness to take children to vaccination (P-value = <0.001), and social factors such as family (P-value = <0.030). Gender also played a key determinant role where the children’s fathers lacked knowledge on significance of immunization and thus discouraged the mothers from taking the children for immunization. Inadequate funding was also highlighted from the Focus Group Discussions. Conclusion: Vaccine coverage for pneumococcus and rotavirus is still low in Butaleja district mainly due to the attitudes and perceptions of caregivers as well as the knowledge gap. There is need for extensive sensitization of all community members to enable them understand the significance of immunization. It would further be important to increase the funding of the immunization programme to intensify and ensure effectual outreaches as well as the establishment and enforcement of a policy for immunization compliance.
