This cross-sectional study was designed to analyse the differences between the subject-specific competenc- es of Slovenian and Italian physical education (PE) teachers. The participants, 669 Slovenian and 484 Italian PE teachers, evaluated their professional competences with a self-administered questionnaire on a four-level Likert scale. A t-test for independent samples indicates differences in the self-evaluations of the majority of sub- ject-specific competences between both groups. However, in almost all items, Slovenian PE teachers evaluate their competences higher. A multivariate analysis of variance, used to identify the role of some socio-demo- graphic factors (state, gender, years of service), shows that the state has the highest impact on the differences between self-efficiency of both groups (p<0.001, Eta2=0.531). The greatest differences (Cohen's d > 0.8) are observed on those competences that relate to some of the narrower aspects of PE didactics. The reasons for the perceived differences can be found in some historical and social events, length of education, the different orientation of PE teacher education programmes, and the different responses of both countries to educational policies. The present study outcomes may aid in updating initial PE teacher training and designing a creative system of continuous professional development.

The aim of this study is to explore Omani and Kuwaiti physical education teachers’ teaching efficacy level and to determine differences in terms of gender variables. The sample consisted of 164 physical education teachers from Oman and 187 from the State of Kuwait. There were 49.9% male physical education teachers and 59.1% female physical education teachers from both countries. Data were collected through a developed teaching efficacy scale, which was borrowed from the literature, consisting of 5 main categories: content knowledge, pedagogical special knowledge, general teaching, classroom management, and assessment in physical education. Generally, the results revealed that physical education teachers hold a positive and medium level of teaching efficacy. In addition, physical education teachers in the State of Kuwait possessed higher levels than Omani physical education teacher in all dimensions except in the general teaching and classroom management dimensions. Furthermore, the level of teaching efficacy was higher for female physical education teachers compared to their counterparts. Further recommendations for future studies are also suggested.

The physical education learning process through the scientific method emphasizes finding information about the basic techniques/skills taught and game rules to find solutions to every problem encountered. This study aims to determine the results of the implementation of the scientific method in learning physical education. The study design was a cross-sectional study. There were 386 students and three physical education teachers participants. The data collection procedure in this study used an assessment questionnaire for students and an interview protocol for physical education teachers. Two research instruments were used: student questionnaire sheets and teacher interview protocols. Student questionnaire data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive and physical education teacher interview data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive. The results of the assessment of the response of class students indicate that the implementation of the scientific method in physical education learning has been going very well. This is evidenced by the percentage value of the assessment of more than 75%, both in the initial, core, and final activity variables. This research has an impact on increasing the knowledge and competence of teachers related to scientific methods and improving the quality of physical education learning.

The expanding role of physical education teachers at the college level led them to perform multifarious jobs including conduct of sports events, taking classes, maintaining discipline, and other important engagements. This workload had enhanced the complexity of their job and the demands intensive involvement of physical education teachers at the college level. Though very limited research has been done in the profession of physical education aiming at determining the factors influencing their job performance. Therefore, the present study was conducted to assess the effect of professional factors (professional attitude, professional pride & professional autonomy) among lecturers in the Federal and Provincial Governmental Colleges. This cross-sectional study utilized a stratified random sample of n=223 (males=139; females=84). A 67 items with closed-ended options questionnaires were used in the study, which was properly piloted with 30 other lecturers. By the use of an automated online platform, survey information was collected and all responses remained confidential. The demographic attributes were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while inferential statistics were applied to test the set hypotheses of the study. Findings of the study revealed that all the variables are significantly correlated at a significant level of 0.01. Other findings included a significant effect of professional factors upon the job performance of lecturers (p < .05). Additionally, the p values for all the variables are lesser than the standard value (p < 0.05) hence, homogeneity of variances is assumed.  Based on the findings, it is recommended that professional attitude, pride, and autonomy might be ensured among teachers to enhance their job performance.

This cross-sectional study was designed to analyse the differences in the subject-specific competencies of Slovenian Physical Education (PE) teachers according to their physical working environment. The participants, 681 Slovenian PE teachers, evaluated their professional subject-specific competencies (n=40) on a four-level Likert scale and two factors of their physical working environment (size of sports facilities and their equipment) with a self-administered questionnaire. Differences in their self-perceptions about subject-specific competencies between those working in good conditions and those working in poorer conditions were identified with the Mann-Whitney test for independent samples, and Cliff’s delta was used to estimate the size of the differences. The results show that higher perceptions of subject-specific competencies of PE teachers are mainly affected by the equipment of sports facilities, not their size; therefore, local communities and the state should ensure that all schools have roughly equal well-equipped sports facilities.

The purpose of the research was to determine the physical and gestural state of students between eight and nine years of age in a Peruvian educational institution, as well as to provide Physical Education teachers with useful scales to evaluate what concerns physical abilities. and motor skills by age, from simple but validated tests, called Physical Efficiency Tests. It is a descriptive cross-sectional investigation. For this, the physical capacities resistance, strength, speed and flexibility were measured; managing to measure up to two capacities per session, also bringing together capacities that are directly proportional, such as resistance with flexibility and strength with speed. Population: 100% of the students participating in the study (95) distributed in 54 girls and 41 boys. For data collection, Microsoft Excel and SPSS v.25 were used. Conclusions: The results show that Peruvian Physical Education teachers do not have the necessary tools to know how much they can increase or decrease the internal and external loads of physical activity on their students. A deterioration in the conditional capacities and motor skills of the evaluated population is observed. Participating students are at levels of physical efficiency below expectations, especially those who are in the third and fourth levels.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is commonly involved in various immune-mediated rheumatic disorders accounting for significant disability and impaired quality of life. The aim of our study was to assess inflammatory and immune parameters in patients with TMJ arthritis related to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and to identify potential relation with severity and dysfunction of TMJ pathology. We performed a cross-sectional study in a cohort of 433 consecutive RA, 32 JIA, 258 AS, and 103 PsA. Only patients presenting with clinically significant TMJ involvement (273) related to their rheumatic condition were included in the final analysis. TMJ involvement is traditionally described in chronic inflammatory rheumatic disorders, particularly in patients with higher levels of inflammation as detected in rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Disease activity and severity, as well as biological and positive serological assessments (rheumatoid factor, anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide, IL-1) remain significant determinants of the severity of TMJ arthritis.
