In this paper we have reported development of suitable dosage form for novel curcumin analogue synthesized in our laboratory. The work involves preformulation studies of synthesized curcumin analogue followed by preparation and optimization of non-aqueous gel and curcumin loaded (CA-NP) nanoparticle gel. The formulated gels were observed visually for clarity, homogeneity, and phase separation.  They were tested for their appearance and presence of any aggregates. Curcumin analogue loaded PLGA nanoparticles were prepared by using the nanoprecipitation -solvent evaporation method and further optimized. In-vitro antioxidant activity of formulation was then evaluated using DPPH radical scavenging activity. The gel exhibited good antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 5.39 μg/ml.

 Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate the pharmacological evaluation of previously isolated compounds (CR-1 to CR-5) from the areal part of Cuscuta reflexa Roxb. is reported.Methods: The antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of the isolated compounds (CR-1 to CR-5) from C. reflexa was determined by the disc-diffusion method and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) model, respectively. The antimicrobial activity was performed against four strains Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.Results: The results revealed that highest zone of inhibition is measured by compound CR-5 against E. coli. The antioxidant activity is evaluated for in vitro antioxidant activity using DPPH radical scavenging activity, inhibitory concentration 50% (IC50) (120.92–76.38 %), respectively. The results indicate that isolated compound CR-1 and CR-2 having IC50 76.38 and 76.94 μg/ml, respectively, showed potent antioxidant activity comparable to standard ascorbic acid (IC50 43.42 μg/ml).Conclusion: This study suggests that areal part of C. reflexa have bioactive compounds for a new antimicrobial and antioxidant drug development.

Objective: The present study was carried out to evaluate the in vitro preliminary phytochemical analysis and antioxidant activity of methanolic leaf extracts of Corchorus olitorius L. The in vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH radical scavenging activity method.Methods: Fresh jute leaves (immature, mature and senescence) were collected, air dried and the crude powder was prepared for phytochemical and antioxidant analysis. The powder was mixed with 70% methanol and the supernatant was separated. The antioxidant activity of this methanolic extract was measured on the basis of the scavenging activity of the stable 1, 1-diphenyl 2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical with slight modifications. Phytochemical analysis was performed according to standard laboratory protocol.Results: The results indicated the presence of different phytochemicals viz. glycosides, steroids, cholesterol, alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, riboflavin, saponins and terpenoids. The sample also showed antioxidant activity by inhibiting DPPH radical. The significant antioxidant activity of methanolic leaf extract of might be due to the presence of saponins, phenols, flavonoids and alkaloids found in the preliminary phytochemical analysis.Conclusion: Present study reveals that the jute leaf possesses different phytonutrients and exhibited DPPH radical scavenging activity, and therefore, may be used for therapeutic purposes.

Nyctanthes arbor-tristis (Harshingar, Parijat) belongs to the family Oleaceae. The flower has white petals with an orange calyx. Nyctanthes stems have been found to be a rich source of antioxidant. The aqueous extracts of the flower, calyx and petals were evaluated and found to be dose-dependent and showed an increase in DPPH free radical scavenging activity in vitro. The extracts, which showed strong DPPH radical scavenging activity, are in the order Calyx > flower > petals. This signifies that the main antioxidant activity is in the orange colored calyx of the flower. We have attempted an innovative study with the Nyctanthes flower as a part of an exploration for a cheap natural source of antioxidants which can be used at the industrial scale of the food industry.

Objective: The aims of the research were to evaluate the antioxidant effect of Sterculia quadrifida R.Br bark by in vitro 1,1-biphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging method and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity on diabetic Wistar rats model. Methods: S. quadrifida bark powder was extracted in ethanol 70% by maceration method. The antioxidant activity of ethanol extract was tested by DPPH radical scavenging method. The activity of GPx was evaluated from the liver of alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The antioxidant activity was determined by measuring the absorbance using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry method. Results: The ethanol extract of S. quadrifida bark had a strong DPPH radical scavenging activity, with the IC50 value was 4.86±0.01 ug/ml, besides that the extract also showed significantly activity of GPx (p<0.05) at a dose of 65, 130, and 260 mg/kg bw. Conclusion: The ethanol extract of S. quadrifida bark had a potent antioxidant activity by DPPH radical scavenging and GPx activity.

Objective: The objective is to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the methanolic leaf extract of Wedelia chinensis.Methods: In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by studying 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, superoxide radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, metal chelating activity, and total antioxidant activity. Ascorbic acid, BHT, quercetin, and EDTA were used as standards for the experiments.Results: Inhibition concentration50 values observed for DPPH radical scavenging, superoxide radical scavenging, and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities were determined to be 62.5, 769.23, and 617.28 μg/ml, respectively and that of FRAP scavenging, metal chelating, and total antioxidant activities were found to be 343 μmol Fe (II)/g, 79.56 mg EDTA/g extract, and 398.17 mg ascorbic acid eq/g extract, respectively.Conclusion: The results clearly indicate that methanolic leaf extract of the study species W. chinensis is effective in scavenging free radicals and has the potential to be a powerful antioxidant.

In present study, free radical scavenging activity of methanolic extract of all parts (leaves, seeds, root, stem and flower) of Perilla frutescens L. has been estimated. The promising results, among the five plant parts leaves, seeds, root, stem, flower and the standard tested for the in vitro antioxidant activity using the DPPH method, the crude methanolic extracts of all parts showed antioxidant activity, with IC50 values of 5.95 ± 0.10, 8.28 ± 0.20, 66.27 ± 0.17, 80.03 ± 0.10 and 122.35 ± 0.17 μg/mL, respectively. The IC50 value for ascorbic acid was 5.19 ± 0.26 μg/mL. While butylated hydroxyl toluene (BHT) a synthetic commercial antioxidant has comparatively high IC50 value of 108.46 ± 0.57 μg/mL. Presence of zinc in all parts of plant in the range 17.20 ± 0.22 to 33.56 ± 0.32 ppm further supports the strong antioxidant activity of Perilla frutescens L. The phytochemical tests indicated that all parts of Perilla frutescens L. have considerable proportion of important phytochemicals and are in rich source of secondary metabolites like polyphenols, tannins, alkaloids and flavonoids. Several of such compounds are known to possess potent antioxidant activity.

Woodfordia fructicosa and Gardenia gummifera are traditionally claimed to be useful in treatment of number of diseases. The main aim of this study was to evaluate preliminary phytochemical tests and antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of Woodfordia fructicosa flowers and Gardenia gummifera leaves and finally extracts were formulated in Gels and Suspensions. In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH method. The different concentration (100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 μg/ml) of standard and test samples were prepared. The anti-oxidant activity is exhibited in percentage inhibition. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of both the extracts increases with increasing concentration. The prepared gels were evaluated physical appearance, homogeneity, Grittiness, Spreadability and Viscosity. The prepared suspensions were evaluated organoleptic properties, pH and Sedimentation Volume.

Satureja briquetii L. (Labiatae) species are a well-known aromatic plant which is used to produce essential oils and aromatic water in the mountain regions of Sefrou part of Morocco. In our study, it was aimed to determine phytochemical and antioxidant activities of Satureja briquetii L. essential oils in vitro. Antioxidant activities of the oils at differents concentrations were evaluated using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging. The extraction of essential oils from aerial part of this plant is carried out by hydrodistillation, and yields are 1.75% for dry aerial part and 1.05% for fresh aerial part. The analysis of the essential oils of dry aerial part from Satureja briquetii L. by GC/MS identified 57 principles compounds including Spathulenol (9.81%), Verbenone (4.35%), Camphene (3.56%), Himachalene (3,2%) and Cedrene (2,12%). The chromatographic profile of essential oils from fresh aerial part of Satureja briquetii L. has 49 constituents representing 96.25% of the essential oil, where the Menth-8-ene (14.99%), Cymene (4.97%) and Carene (4.97%) are major compounds. The Menth-1,4(8)-diene, (1,06%), Cubenol and Longifolene (3,44%) are in minority. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity of the essential art of Satureja briquetii L. was evaluated by the method of DPPH, and showed a significant efficiency in radical DPPH reducing with an IC50 value of of 31.027 ± 0.586 µg/ml from essential oils of dry aerial and 35.034 ± 0.0432 µg/ml in essential oils from fresh aerial part.
