Aircraft hangars are used to store and maintain aircraft. Although the frequency of fires in such hangars is low, the physical damage caused by a fire can be extremely large, and thus it is important to verify the reliability of an automatic fire suppression system. For intensive fire management, it is necessary to identify the risk factors of an automatic fire suppression system and calculate the weights for each factor. In this study, through a hierarchical analysis, fire risk factors of an automatic fire suppression system used in aircraft hangars were identified and the weights for each risk factor were calculated. As the analysis results indicate, the risk of failing in the initial fire suppression factor of foamhead fire suppression system was the highest among the 26 items considered and the calculated weight can be used as basic data necessary for a future quantitative fire risk assessment of an aircraft hangar fire suppression system.

Wildfire is an important component of the dynamics of boreal-forest ecosystems, but it can also contribute to the loss of forest resources, especially when fires escape initial attack and become large. Annual fire management costs in the province of Quebec are substantial (annual average of C$69 million for 1994–2014). The main objective of this study was to evaluate the financial impact of fire management on forest resources in Quebec. Our study includes cost–benefit analyses of nine fire management presuppression expenditure scenarios using forest and fire data for three commercially managed forest management units in the province of Quebec that experience varying mean annual burn rates (0.06–0.56%year−1). The reduction in the burn rate attributed to fire management increased the revenue from the sale of primary-processed wood product and reduced fire suppression expenditure. The combined effects of reduced suppression expenditure and increased revenue from value-added timber harvest and wood processing with a lower fire risk compensated for increased fire presuppression expenditure.

Forest fires in the mid hills of Himachal Pradesh are mostly related to human activities. More than 90% of fires are originated from either deliberate or involuntary causes. The purpose of study is linked to identification of forest fire risk factors in 19 villages under Nauni and Oachhghat Panchayats. The methodology paradigm applied here is based on knowledge and fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) techniques. Knowledge-based criteria involve socio-economic and biophysical themes for risk assessment. The risk factors are identified according to past occurrence of fire. Fuel type scores highest weight (0.3109) followed by aspect (0.2487), agricultural workers (0.1865), nutritional density (0.1244), population density (0.0622), elevation (0.0311), literacy rate (0.0207) and distance from road (0.0155) in descending order. In the study area applying FAHP, 24.96% of total area was classified under high-risk prone area, 21.69% area classified under high-risk, 34.63% area under moderate risk, while 18.61% area under low risk. The results were in accordance with actual fire occurrences in the past years.

Fire-services are often unable to obtain a rapid overview of problems connected with wildfire fighting. In the last few decades the ideology for fire fighting has shifted from fire control(basically fire suppression) to fire management (including prevention,planning, and simulating). As a result, fire management is now included in landscape planning processes. The preliminary step in fire management is fire risk analysis, which takes into account fire hazard (probability and expected severity of a fire) and the outcome (total impact on the affected environment). In this contribution we present an approach for assessing fire risk on local levels in southern Switzerland.

Entertainment places have special structure; large fire load, personnel-intensive features, and function layout often change in the process of operation, so the fire risk level will change frequently. The current fire risk assessment studies for only one stage in entertainment places without considering the impact of risk factors at different stages. For this situation, this paper presents a fire risk assessment method in entertainment places based on full life cycle, divides the entertainment places into different stages, analyzes risk factors at different stages, and then uses the method of Gustav to get the fire risk levels of different stages. The assessment results show that the level of fire risk in entertainment places are different at different stages, you can take the appropriate risk control measures against fire risk factors at different stages, which has important guiding significance for fire risk management in entertainment places.

Abstract This paper presents a global fire risk assessment by using fire simulation in an existing underground parking. The simulation is conducted with the Fire Dynamics Simulator, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool and the simulations are performed on a threedimensional model of the parking. Multiple parameters and factors are taken into account in this complex assessment, such as geometry data, ventilation openings (both mechanical and natural), fire detection and fire suppression details. The output of the case study is represented by a large array of data: the time for sprinkler activation, maximum temperatures, smoke flow and overall fire evolution. The intention of the authors is to provide a global fire risk assessment of the parking, based on the fire safety engineering principles.

The problem of adequate diagnostic tools use for suicide risk assessment т medical research and practice is of extreme importance because of the high incidence of suicide in the population of psychotic patients and the high vulnerability of the latter to the known risk factors. The article provides ап overview of the existing psychometric instruments (scales) used to assess the risk of suicide in psychiatry as well as in general medicine.
