Research identifying the biobehavioral processes that link threat exposure to cognitive alterations can inform treatments designed to reduce perpetration of stress-induced aggression. The present study attempted to specify the effects of relatively predictable (acute) vs unpredictable (diffuse) threat on two theoretically relevant attention networks, attentional alerting and executive control; and to examine the extent to which aggression proneness moderated those effects. In a sample with high rates of externalizing behaviors (n = 74), we measured event-related brain activity during an attention network test that manipulated cognitive systems activation under distinct contexts of threat (NPU manipulation). The first set of results confirmed that threat exposure alters alerting and executive control. The predictable threat condition, relative to unpredictable threat, increased visual alerting (alert cue N1) and decreased attention (P3) to subsequent task-relevant stimuli (flanker). In contrast, overall threat and unpredictable threat conditions were associated with alerting-related quicker responding and poorer conflict resolution (congruence-related flanker N2 reductions and RT interference). The second set of results indicated that different operationalizations of aggression proneness were inconsistently related to threat-related alterations in cognitive systems. While these results regarding threat-related cognitive alterations in aggression require more study, they nevertheless expand what is known about threat-related modulation of cognition in a sample of individuals with histories of externalizing behaviors.

<p style="text-align: justify;">Algebraic reasoning involves representation, generalization, formalization of patterns and order in all aspects of mathematics. Hence, the focus of algebraic reasoning is on patterns, functions, and the ability to analyze situations with the help of symbols. The purpose of this study was to develop a test instrument to measure students' algebraic reasoning abilities based on cognitive systems in Marzano's taxonomy. The cognitive system in Marzano's taxonomy consists of four levels, including retrieval, comprehension, analysis, and knowledge utilization. According to the stage of cognitive development, students are at the level of knowledge utilization. At this level, students can make decisions, solve problems, generates and test hypotheses, as well as carry out investigations that are in line with indicators of algebraic reasoning abilities. The stages in developing the test instrument were based on three phases: preliminary investigation phase, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. The study obtains a set of valid and reliable algebraic reasoning test instruments for students based on the cognitive system in Marzano's taxonomy. Through the development of an algebraic reasoning test instrument based on Marzano's taxonomy, students can build' thinking habits so that active learning exercises occurs.</p>

Abstract In this manuscript, we introduce a semi-blind spectrum sensing technique based on cepstral analysis for interweave cognitive systems. The misdetection problem of spread spectrum signals leads to erroneous sensing results, which affect the quality-of-service of a legitimate user. The simplicity and accuracy of cepstral analysis approaches make them reliable for signals detection. Therefore, we formulate the averaged autocepstrum detection technique that utilizes the strength of the autocepstral features of spread spectrum signals. The proposed technique is compared with the energy detection and eigenvalue-based detection techniques and shows reliability and efficacy in terms of detection accuracy.

This article reviews and attempts to evaluate the various proposals for a strong minimalist thesis that have been at the core of the minimalist program for linguistic theory since its inception almost three decades ago. These proposals have involved legibility conditions for the interface between language and the cognitive systems that access it, the simplest computational operation Merge (its form and function), and principles of computational efficiency (including inclusiveness, no-tampering, cyclic computation, and the deletion of copies). This evaluation attempts to demonstrate that reliance on interface conditions encounters serious long-standing problems for the analysis of language. It also suggests that the precise formulation of Merge may, in fact, subsume the effects of those principles of efficient computation currently under investigation and might possibly render unnecessary proposals for additional structure building operations (e.g., Pair-Merge and FormSequence).

Abstract This paper aims to bring research on different forms of group-level cognition into conversation with Cognitive Translation Studies (CTS), the focal point of the paper being cognitive processes in translation teams. It is argued that an analysis of cognition in translation teams, which exhibit the properties of a cognitive system, needs to be placed on group-level. A case study of a team, translating the Hebrew Bible Book of Psalms into Swedish in the 1980’s, is presented. The empirical base for the case study consists of archival material in the form of draft translations and paratexts. The methodological question is thus raised whether, and if so in what way, cognitive processes may be analyzed retrospectively, and not only from a real time perspective. By treating the archival material as cognitive artifacts which have constituted an integral part of the team’s cognitive process, the question is tentatively answered in a favourable way. This, it is finally argued, opens up interesting possibilities for joining CTS with translator archives research, Genetic Translation Studies (GTS), and cognitive archeology.
