In 1951, six years after the United States defeated Japan and commenced the Occupation of Okinawa, the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR) issued an ordinance in support of agricultural cooperatives. Despite the appearance of altruism, the move marked the emergence of the U.S. anticolonial empire, a form that advocated racial and ethnic self-determination even as it expanded the U.S. military presence. This article shows how U.S. policymakers in Okinawa borrowed from modernization theory to implement models to foster ethnic identification through economic development. Their plans sought to render the United States an ally to Okinawa freedom despite the devastating effects militarism had on the local landscape. Specifically, military plans posited frameworks like the Okinawan economy, which strategically turned the military into a partner without whom Okinawa could not modernize. The article further focuses on agriculture, an arena where the contradictions of the U.S. Occupation was most acute. It argues that rehabilitating the local cooperative network drew Okinawans into the military project, not only to paper over the U.S. colonial presence, but also to further the reach of military discipline.

Abstract A novel downlink cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (DC-NOMA) scheme is proposed in this paper to achieve higher performance in the spectral efficiency compared to the classical NOMA schemes. The communication system consists of one base station and two users (e.g., strong user and weak user). In down link phase, the base station transmits a superimposed signal to both users, and in the cooperative phase, the weak user sends its decoded message to the strong user. The main idea is how the weak user can help the strong user to improve the performance of both users. This occurs by enabling the weak user to perform a cooperative transmission with the strong user during the cooperative phase. The outage probability, outage throughput, and diversity order are derived and analyzed. Numerical results are provided to show that the spectral efficiency gain achieved through our proposed scheme is better than the conventional cooperative NOMA schemes.

Vegetable prices play an important role in people’s daily lives globally. However, there is very little research that has systematically analyzed and discussed the existing research. Therefore, in order to narrow this gap in the literature, there is a need for an extensive and macro-level study of vegetable price research. By sorting out a large volume of documents, This paper presents a visual representation of the vegetable price research literature in the Web of Science and CNKI databases; it includes three perspectives of the cooperative network, co-occurrence network and co-cited network, and draws scientific knowledge map, to acquire a good understanding of the current situation of vegetable price research, hot issues, clearly shows the focus of the research, summaries the fluctuation pattern of vegetable price, deeply analyses the influencing factors of vegetable price fluctuation, and find out the connection between related scholars and the correlation existing in each research content. The results show that scholars at home and abroad have conducted research from the perspectives of vegetable price influencing factors, forecasting and early warning, and insurance systems, but they are only limited to some regions, and some vegetable varieties, and the forecasting and early warning of vegetable prices are not accurate enough, the insurance system is not perfect, and a complete price influencing mechanism has not yet been proposed. The aim of this study is to make a significant contribution to the scientific community and industry practitioners by providing a comprehensive understanding of the latest status, popular keywords and topics, and emerging areas of vegetable price research. In addition, this study will be a useful and valuable reference and guide for researchers interested in this field.

In unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) collaborative electronic reconnaissance network, single UAV is always restricted by flyability and sensing capacity; hence, a cooperative network is built to realize the electronic reconnaissance. In this paper, a three-level electronic reconnaissance network is proposed, including the radiation target, UAV-based electronic reconnaissance equipment, and the command center. Each of the UAVs is capable of monitoring several radiation targets at the same time. Since the topology of the UAV network influences the effect of electronic reconnaissance, in this contribution, optimization is achieved based on the improvement of radiation coverage. If there is no radiation target within the sensing scope, the corresponding UAV will remove according to our novel strategy. Iterate operations are carried out for the relative optimum performance. Simulation results show that the UAV network topology optimization is capable of improving the coverage of radiation targets effectively.

In this paper, we investigate a slotted Aloha cooperative network where a source node and a relay node send status updates of two underlying stochastic processes to a common destination. Additionally, the relay node cooperates with the source by accepting its packets for further retransmissions, where the cooperation policy comprises acceptance and relaying probabilistic policies. Exact marginal steady state distributions of the source and relay Age of Information (AoI) and Peak AoI (PAoI) sequences are obtained using Quasi-Birth-Death (QBD) Markov chain models. Extending this approach, we also obtain the joint distribution of the source and relay AoI sequences out of which one can obtain the steady state distribution of the Squared Difference of the two AoI sequences (SDAoI), which finds applications in network scenarios where not only the timeliness of status updates of each process is desired but also their simultaneity is of crucial importance. In this regard, we numerically obtain the optimal cooperation policy in order to minimize the expected value of SDAoI subject to a constraint on the average PAoI of the relay. Finally, our proposed analytical approach is verified by simulations and the performance of the optimal policy is discussed based on the numerical results.
